about me

Bah, I just felt like I couldn't leave this blank any longer. I'm sure you can sympathize with me when I say that I've written biography sections for more than enough profiles in my life. I'll try to limit this to things that won't really change, since I'm bad at updating things often enough.

My only big moe is megane characters, which is relatively common. Indecisive leads can really turn me off, but they aren't always the worst. For example, I prefer Shinkurou (Kurenai) to Shinji (Eva). I also find it difficult to care about shows based on ero games, because they usually feature an uninteresting male lead and the women are just... I don't even want to talk about it.

I like most genres, but I tend to prefer things that incorporate some level of romance and/or comedy. Full Metal Panic is a good example of that, and it might be the only anime that falls into the mech genre that I actually like.

I have a voice fetish. I shouldn't really call it a fetish, because I don't get some sort of immediate sexual gratification when I hear peoples' voices, but the word seemed to fit. Basically, there are some voices I could spend my life away listening to. This applies to all of my favorite male characters, or else they probably wouldn't have made this list.

Favorite Characters (in no particular order, mind you)

Kyouya (Host Club): I love Kyouya. The way the manga is turning, it seems that he's going to support Tamaki and Haruhi, which I like, but he's also probably my favorite person to read fanfics and doujinshi about. I also like the style he uses for his appearance and bedroom. He's shrewd, attractive, calculating, and manipulative, with a human side to boot.

Misaki (Junjou Romantica): Uaaa! Amazing voice for an uke character, truly. Misaki has some amazing traits. He wants to be helpful, but doesn't want to be a burden. He's reluctant to convey his feelings openly. Sexually, he's very responsive. He's got spindly legs, green eyes, and a wonderful frown. The anime sticks to the manga aside for some censorship. It was cuter to see Masaki fall asleep "drunk" on chocolates with liquor in them than it was with the mountain of beer (manga version), but it was also much less manly. And in the anime, sex scenes are short and ambiguous, whereas the manga features some of the best out of all the BL things I've ever read (with the exception of some Zaou Taishi/Eiki-Eiki and Yamada Yuugi material).

Sasshi (Abenobashi): Sasshi is cute. He's a good person, too. I like his personality, his background, and how earnest he is. Plus, he's thin the way I prefer and has a laid-back sort of clothing style. In the end, his drive to be with and protect Arumi is what makes me like him as much as I do. His outbursts are also fun for me. I hate the manga adaptation, so keep in mind that this is strictly the anime Sasshi.

Kouichi (Nabari no Ou): I like the way Aizawa changes from genki-genki polite to intense and manly. At first, I was lamenting the fact that his hair was so light, but it took me all of 20 seconds to forget about that and adore him wholeheartedly. I like what lies beneath the most. He reminds me of Kyouya in that respect. If Tamaki and Thobari switched places, Tamaki would still laugh at Kouichi's seriousness right before he got shot, and say "that's a bad guy's face," you know? I don't really mind the feathers. It's not like he always has them on him, so it's kindof cool as a means to explain his transformation there. Kouichi doesn't get as much attention as I wish he could, but I look forward to his scenes regardless (plus, the other characters all need their time, as well... I think I have a crush on Yukimi. Fu fu fu).

Yoite and Miharu (Nabari no Ou): Yoite and Miharu remind me of my childhood. Since it's been a few years since I've fully outgrown that kind of life, it's nostalgic. Yoite is neither male nor female. Like I.S. That shows up really late in the manga (ch 47), and I had already been watching Yoite before I read this, but it added something to my understanding of his character. He's unsure of his identity in a lot of ways, so I want to see if and how any part of this ever gets resolved. Miharu recently made me want to try okonomiyaki, and GOD is it amazing. I want to eat the ones he makes, though! *pout*

L (Death Note): This seems like an obvious choice. I would normally be reluctant to admit that I love such a popular character, but what can I say? His intellect is admirable, as well as his drive, but what really attracts me are his mannerisms and his voice. Finally! Another young person that eats so many sweets that he's in danger of giving himself diabetes. Also, it's nice to feel good about bad posture due to years spent huddled over bent knees in the face of a monitor at night. -_- John and Marty are the same, though. Still! L is just great. He makes me wish I were sharp enough to be virtually peerless, because then I'd have a real excuse to be as antisocial as I am. I also like the time that Light loses his memory, because I got to see how he and his father had such a negative impact on L's ambition. When he declared that he'd be working alone, it felt like some very human qualities were peering through.

Madarame (Genshiken): With this guy, for some reason, my fictional-character-crush takes the shape of me really wanting him to actively pursue Saki. They seem so well-suited for one another, and I want to see that guy happy. His voice is way different from any of my other voice crushes, but I could listen to it all day. I'm hoping there will be enough seasons of the anime to cover the entire plot, and I don't want to trudge through all that Ogiue-Sasahara bullshit only to find that the ending is exactly the same and my dreams go unfulfilled forever. At least make the relationship with Kousaka seem worth it if you're going to do that, yeesh.

Chi (Chi's Sweet Home): Chi reminds me of Alexander (my cat), and I love her. Plus, she gave me a reason to actually smile when I remember Chobits (lulz).

Azuma and Seira (Hana-Kimi, manga): I smiled so much when I first saw these characters together. Seira's personality seems very childish, but she's actually mature in the ways she needs to be. She acts younger than she is, and happily clings to her husband and high school sweetheart, Azuma. Marty isn't AS manly as Azuma-papa, and I imagine that Azuma's voice would be very deep, but our relationship is somehow similar. Some people find this kind of long-lasting happiness irritating (my mom thought something was wrong with us for actually wanting to be together as often as we are), and it's the same for Seira and Azuma.

Shuuji (HachiKuro): Shuuji is the type of person I want to be with forever. My boyfriend Marty is too young and his personality and our relationship are very different from Shuuji's, so that dream is probably unattainable--but fantasies will always have a place in my heart. He's responsible, and his relationship with Hagu is exactly what I'd choose if that sort of thing were possible. I like that he both encourages and admires her, and that he takes care of her to the extent that she doesn't do things a normal person would do for themselves. Since I love to depend on a person, Marty comes as close to that as I'll probably ever get, and our relationship really does draw ties to Seira and Azuma's (just above), which is wonderful enough.

Goemon (Lupin III--all versions): Must be the fundoshi... :p He's someone I've liked since I was a little girl.

Mugen and Jin (Samurai Champloo): I can't decide which of these two that I prefer. I've thought about that a lot. Anyway, most people know a lot about these characters, so I'm not going to go into why I like them so much. I just like them because they are the way they are.

Death the Kid (Soul Eater): He doesn't wear glasses, but the first time I heard this guy speak, I cried. A lot. I rolled around on the floor, screaming and crying, and even explained myself to those around me without stopping. Tamaki... Kira... And Death the Kid. This pretty much cements Mamoru Miyano as my favorite male voice actor of all time. I love DtK's OCD regarding bilateral symmetry, and even though we've yet to see what power he squeezes out when in a "dire pinch" (O HO HO HO HO!), I'm sure it will be a sight to behold. His personality is very likable, ya know?

Soul and Maka (Soul Eater): I'm writing these two up as a pair because I don't want it to seem like all of my favorite characters are in one show. >.> Also, Dr. Stein. I love that guy. Ugh, megane coolness there. It's weird that his voice is so relaxing and nice when the only other time I've heard it was as Twenty Faces... ;_; I'd let him experiment on me... <.< ANYWAY! Maka is pretty much the ultimate female character to me. She and Soul make a good team. I like how he's sensitive to her changes in mood, and how he protects her so readily. Soul is what Inuyasha should have been. Maka is like Abenobashi's Arumi but better. She doesn't freak out so much because she really doesn't have to. I like the balance between plot and gags. She's certainly got a tsundere side to her, but Maka isn't as vulnerable as, say, Kaname is in FMP. Also... Most of the time, when Soul isn't worried about being a cool guy... He comes off as really cool. >.<

Retired Favorites

Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai (My old No. 5...TOD: 6/29/2008)

This anime... I can watch it again and again. It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen, and though it's compared to Excel Saga for its parodies, I think it stands on its own legs. I like Sasshi and Arumi a lot, and I think the underlying themes in this show are deceptively mature. The constant use of kansai-ben has its allure, and I also tend to love stories about childhood friends as they first develop romantic feelings for one another. I think this show also portrays Osaka in a particularly positive light, because the characters really do love their home, and end up winning the fight against what would have been their district's demise.

The corresponding manga was written after the fact, and only plays up the "let's pander to otaku culture" theme to any great extent. The art and even the main characters' personalities were altered to the point that it's unpleasant, but it does reward the reader by showing Sasshi confess his feelings to Arumi. That said, the old saying "actions speak louder than words" couldn't carry more meaning when it comes Abenobashi, because although the anime lacks such conspicuous delivery, Sasshi's actions and behavior toward Arumi speak for themselves.

Thanks! ^_^

I noticed you had a favorite on my profile, so I went and looked at yours and found you tend to like a lot of the same stuff I do.  I just wanted to recommend Kekkaishi to you.  I think you will like it a lot based on the fact that you also tend to like the same characters as I.  The main characters are great, and for a Shonen anime, it moves quite well.  It's also very funny (yoshimori's obsession with coffee milk and sleeping during class)

Keep up the good work and if you have anything you would recommend let me know. (I don't always check my profile so it may take a few days for me to notice it.)
