Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil

TreeOfWolf's avatar

Hard to believe... but this is... epic! I watch anything that looks evil, but I wasn't expecting much from a little girl. At first her voice annoyed me and I didn't think that she was credible as a leader... but then they addressed that issue with a cool supernatural explanation, I saw her in action, got to know her... and... I am in awe and admiration! I kept thinking: wait... it's good... but is this actually epic? It can't be... How a silly little girl can compare to Attack On Titan *Tanya brutally murders someone* Whoa! Her internal dialog is fascinating, she's passionate, ambitious, a genius... See full review

Drifters

I am a huge fan of Hellsing... But I have nothing but disgust for Drifters. Drifters was made by the same creators as Hellsing, so it was kinda mandatory to watch. Alucard and Integra had such intense personalities and presence that I didn't notice how boring the story was before the manga was completed. Then we got Hellsing Ultimate and everything made sense, it was pure genius, using quantum physics was even more epic than time travel, I wept in awe... I knew that Drifters couldn't be as good as Hellsing... but it was so bad. Animation not fluid. Shaky cam. Awful fake language. Asshole characters... See full review

This is just the beginning, how Miki and Yuu met, even before knowing about each other. I really liked this episode, it has cool both the male and female character. Even if you don't watch it before the main TV show, you can understand what's going on but I would really suggest you to watch it because you will really enjoy it and get to know the characters and you'll get the "real" beginning of the story. Art is typical for that time, from drawings, the way they dress to interval in the middle. Music is great and it continues in the series too.

Woohoo i feel a shitstorm coming..Oh yes,of course it's Hayate the pussywhipped, cross dressing king of the diarrhea hill....And straight onto the big question that every man in every nation never asked..Is it any better than the first one? In one word,NO.The 1st season was total crap..It was one of the very few anime that quite literally put me to sleep while watching it.And i can't,to this day, understand why everyone thought it was so damn funny..If you're 12 or have the mental age of 12 i'm sure it must have been..But it wasn't.What it was,was a boring 52 eps cure for severe insomnia. And what did... When I started watching this anime, I didn't think that it would have such an impact on myself. I loved both characters, Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu. Both of them seem to be a contradiction of the other, but while watching this anime, I realized that actually they are very simmilar. While revealing their past in the first episodes, I observed that both of them were damaged by their past relationships, they both suffered painfully and even if it is said that time heals the wounds, it still hurts when the old wounds are touched. When they meet, it feels like the story of a connection between soulmates... See full review

And Yet The Town Moves

Story To make it short, there is barely a story worth to be speaking of. Arashiama-san is apparantly planning to become a High School Detective and in one episode actually solves a rather simple case, but other than that there is nothing to that story line. Tatsuno-san is having a crush on Sanada-kun and hence starts working as a maid in the place Sanada-kun regularly visits (due to him having a crush on Arashiama-san) and even tries (but fails) to invite him to a movie screening, but that's about all the development made there. Those three would make rather fair material for a love triangle, but that... See full review

If this is the best 2016 had to offer (as many popular sites seem to indicate); then I for one am not impressed.  Re: Zero (Zero henceforth) could most easily be described as a hodge podge of every bad modern anime trope smashed into an empty vessel with virtually no identity of its own.  Self-insert beta male warped to a magic fantasy world?  Check.  Gorgeous princess to share love at first sight?  Check.  Tons of cute waifus to entertain him on the side?  Check.  Time resets and deus ex machinas to safeguard his success?  Check.  The list goes on, but... Fuuka

Balam's avatar
Apr 27, 2017

I thought the show started with a nice vibe, with Yuu and Fuuka's growing realationship, the formation of the band and Yuu learning to play bass. But sadly it soon gets bogged down with a focus on Koyukiv who's Yuu's childhood friend and a pop idol. For me it's less of a realistic love triangle and more of the case that the show just really ignored most of the original set up for Yuu and Fuuka for a number of episodes. There's a certain predictability to where this anime is going which it can't avoid either. Unless you have read the manga because the anime completely changes what happens at a key... I'd say to definetely give this a try if you're tired of usual anime and looking for something different, as it is undeniably quite peculiar: no schools, no school kids, no sports, no overflowing of good sentiments, no romance, no coming-of-age struggles.... The protagonist here is the villain, and as stated by other reviewers you should watch at least the first two episodes before deciding to drop it.  Youjo Senki is about a badass psycho calculating remorseless and ruthless 10 year old little blonde girl with huge blue eyes and no sense of compassion or sympathy for her fellow human beings who... This is a hard one to judge, it's quite boring until the last few episodes, but then has certain charming points to it. Much of this anime can be summarized easily as "do you enjoy watching a girl who is constantly in Roleplay mode"? Along with a school life theme. There is very little comedy as it relies on you being able to enjoy that roleplaying thing and find it amusing in the first place. The romance aspect never takes off (in this season) either. There isn't much of a story or purpose till further in. There is a purpose and reason for Rikka though for all that she does. She is the one... See full review

Story Tecnically there is a story, namely that Tooru-chan has got some difficulties accepting that her best friend Yun does not belong only to her. Apart from that it's basically four cute girls that could not be any more stereotypic doing every day things. What little story the Anime has, however, is okay. Let's say it works and that's fine. Animation and Sound There is nothing much to criticize here. Overally the scenes seemed a little hueless and personally I liked but one of the many songs sung during the Anime (yep, should be about 6-8) but other than that I was well pleased. The anime of the 90's made being a cop in the future cool. Not only did police get to run around with giant weapons indiscriminately shooting bad guys like Charles Bronson, they were also super sexy women who wore tight clothing and fought in heels. The future may have been pretty bleak in these anime, but at least we would be protected by beautiful muses with funny colored hair and cute dispositions that don't match their bloodlust in the least. Of course, that future isn't happening. Now cops are too busy beating up minorities to worry about putting on heel boots and shooting up the mansion of a... See full review

I had a very difficult time assigning a rating to this show, because I feel like a lot of the subtext went over my head. I started watching it because it looked like an interesting combination of sports anime and slice of life genres. And in a way it was... there are sports... but there is more focus on character development and maturation than on said sports. However, a lot of things are left unsaid (which is perhaps part of why I found the anime so interesting but simultaneously so frustrating). I haven't been able to find an analysis of Battery by someone who actually knows what they're doing, but I wish... See full review

Lupin III: Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon

ratchet573's avatar
Apr 25, 2017

The latest in the long tradition of Lupin III films, Lupin III: Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon is a big departure from last years Lupin III Part IV and the tone established there. Gone is the lighthearted nature of the series and at the forefront is grit and gore that I've never traditionally associated with the franchise. That leaves us with a pretty divisive film that will appeal to some Lupin fans, but might alientate others. Goemon is the bodyguard for a Yakuza leader who runs a casino boat off the coast of Japan. But when Lupin shows up to break into the vault, he brings with him a mysterious tail, a... See full review

In my ongoing quest to watch my own top anime list, to see if the shows stand up to the test of time, I decided to pick this little gem of a show and I was glad I did. Story: Very few shows I've seen have the fully contained story in a single season, of those that do very few pull off the feat well. This is among those enjoyable few, then and now. Story is relatively distinct and still straight forward, ranges from ploding along to sudden jumps forward in plot but they don't tease you with information. You are left with a pretty good idea of what's going on way before the main trio is told, not that... See full review

Riki-Oh

Riki-Oh is one of my favorite examples of the manly-man genre of manga/anime that was prevalent in the late-80's into the 90's. Fist of the North Star and Jojo get a lot of attention, but Riki-Oh is one of the most violent manga I've ever read and the bizarre variety of kills the hero and his enemies accumulate over the course of the story are worth reading the manga for. Riki-Oh is most remembered for a live action adaptation that has garnered cult status due to the cheesy, over-the-top gore effects. Though not the topic of this review, the OVA does follow the first arc of the manga, as the film did, so... See full review

Trinity Blood

Trinity Blood has to do with vampires that emerge after a major disaster struck Earth. And no, I am confusing it with Seraph of the End even if they are both equally bad series. It is trying to imitate the style of Trigun, meaning to start in a very comedic and easy going way before becoming darker and depressing, but never manages to be as good for a number of reasons.

The prime reason is the animation, which is done by studio Gonzo, notorious for its crude CGI. Yes, cancer CGI is an issue even today (Berserk anyone?) but GONZO was the one abusing it the most at a time when studios were... See full review

It's a good watch if you really don't think about what you're viewing, but if you happen to be an active thinker, and can see where the story is actively cutting into itself, it can be quite an irritation to endure. This anime, kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The characters were vapid, and oblivious to most everything around them, as well as the worlds were cut-and-paste layouts from other anime/manga. The show is riddled with "convenient loopholes" for when their plot doesn't line up with the layout of the story. It feels like it literally backtracks over itself to do this at times. The... Hachiman Hikigaya, (I’ll call him Hachi-kun) our main protagonist and a shameless pessimist couldn’t think of anything more shallow and selfish in this world than to want to fit in and be accepted by society. If Joseph Stalin were an anime, he would be Monogatari. I'm sure Stalin would have been a cool guy if he hadn't fucked up Russia so much. Monogatari is a great show. Problem is, it's a sweet tasting poison.  I've watched a few episodes and loved what I've seen. I usually despise harem/ecchi anime, the more lolis and 'deres, the worse they are in my book. Monogatari, on the other hand, is the rarest kind of anime: a harem full of ecchi with the queen of lolis.... that I liked. A month or two ago I said that those sort of elements each reduce an anime's quality by 25%, so shouldn't Monogatari be at... See full review

So I just finished watching the available episodes of Deadman Wonderland. I have not read the manga, and I am aware that the show stopped early because it wasn't faithful enough to the manga, and that caused some issues. So, before you even consider watching Deadman Wonderland, know that if you want something fulfilling with unraveling mysteries and a good conclusion, you won't find it in the show alone. And that's just holding back. Though hilariously he can't catch a stupid fly. This series can be summed up in one word: mediocore.  From the very beginning you get the feeling that this won't be more than a 3 and a half star show at best, but it really falls apart.  Almost every character fits neatly into the standard tropes and the show never tries to grow them in a different direction. This is a school combat anime that gets more ecchi as the show goes on.  Every man enjoys a little fan service, but it shouldn't take you out of the story.  The story itself shows signs of becoming interesting, but it never becomes compelling.  This is partially due to poor... That said, I feel like the mangaka never thought he'd continue the story past the first inter-high, and didn't make any plans to until after the show became a hit. This season is a half-assed effort to develope side characters well enough to fit in with the MC's. I'm a little late to the party with this review, but I did finally manage to find more than the first 8 minutes of the movie.  Actually, I had completely forgotten about it up until recently since it takes so long from the time of release to someone being able to sub it. Let's jump right in. Story The movie opens up with action and a chase scene, as some data has been stolen from some unknown location.  Considering that we see the Akai and Rei/Amuro chasing the criminal (merely referred to as "that woman" for the time being), it isn't hard to deduce where the data came from. The... See full review

Yesterday, I ended watching RE:Zero -Starting Life in Another World. It may at first look like an ordinary fantasy anime, but is actually a really gripping and a REALLY REALLY moving anime with a deep storyline.       The Story is about an ordinary high school student Natsuki Subaru who suddenly appears in another world, where he's been straight away killed...BUT after that Subaru has been transported back to where he entered the world. It's basically about the MC dying all the time and being revived on a different checkpoints and receiving a new experience about the reason... See full review

Elfen Lied

This was the series that first got me into anime as a whole, and I must say that it was extremely enjoyable and was probably the sole reason I started watching anime in the first place. Let me start by saying that, on the whole, the characters are unpredictable but generally quite loveable. Take Lucy/Nyuu, for example - her personality was split, causing her to alternate between a killing machine and a cute, innocent young girl. She has killed hundreds in such a brutal manner but she's still loveable because we know this was how she was born - she was born to put an end to humanity and thus feels as though... Hayate the Combat Butler!

Let's start with a warning, shall we?Watch this only if you're an anime veteran and deep into japanese pop culture otherwise Hayate won't make sense at all for most of the time. So Hayate is a kid who is so unfortunate,he seems to have come out from a Greek drama. His parents are worthless douchebags who are milking their own offspring, living the highlife, whilst poor Hayate has to work his ass off to maintain their lifestyle..Nice setting thus far, right? So the parents run off, leaving a huge debt and leave Hayate behind to repay the loan sharks, who are not the nicest people on earth..But then into the... In this review i will be rating each ark with some spoilers. This is all my opinion and you might not agree with it. Ark 1: Gun Gale Online 7/10 In this ark there is a bad guy known as Death Gun who is rumored to have killed people from in game and even though Kirito kind of doudeted it a guy in the government wanted him to investigate it. Suprise! Suprise! They added another charecter to to the harem! There is another suprise too! The bad guy is a survivor of SAO! Who whould have guessed that? This ark i liked but at the same time i did not. This ark had a lot of promise to be great but kinda made it... See full review

ReLife is series that offers a rather interesting idea to the viewers, what if you could get a redo in life? A question that I'm sure has crossed everyone's mind now and again. While the series as a whole delivered on this topic and had me interested the whole way through, it fell victim to something that's unusual to say, but we'll get to that. Story: The story as I mentioned is interesting and creative. I especially liked how the series starts off with a very comedic aproach to the whole thing and then transitions in to the deeper and more serious parts of the story. It allowed me to get to know the... See full review

Sorry but the animation RUINED EVERYTHING!  The storyline would be semi-okay if the animation and the sound and everything wouldn't have ruined everything!  I hope they make a new animation...

It's quite funny and all but the storyline is pretty weak, even for a YAOI anime. (Note: When I watch BL I don't want to see any annoying straight love action...) Sorry but yeah. Also: It seemed a lot like they tried to squeeze every possible scenario into 25 minutes!!  Why?

I love this show. I noticed that it wasn't really popular before I started watching it, so I had my doubts. Once again, I need to stop listening to other people's opinions. Story - If you like gore and action anime, such as Tokyo Ghoul, then you may like this show. There's a lot of it. The plot is interesting and somewhat realistic in what it might be like for Ajin's if they were real, such as government experiments and the public fear of them.  Animation - I really enjoyed the 3D animation. A lot of people dropped it because of this. I thought it added to it and made it interesting. Sound - The... See full review

Boruto: Naruto the Movie

I loved this movie so much. It broke my heart, but also made me smile. It's a great introduction to the new generation while still giving some time to the old, and I loved seeing both Boruto and Naruto grow and change (Naruto's changes being smaller, but still just as important). I will say I don't really like how Naruto was portrayed for the beginning third of the movie, but it's not unbelievable in that it was probably small changes over time, without him realizing how far off track things had gotten. I do wish there had been a line of dialogue to this effect, as it would have helped a little. Also, the... See full review

Complete mumbo jumbo dysfunctional feel-good (at least it tries to be) nonsense, with a garbage message that thinks itself wise but on closer inspection actually solves nothing plus entrenches one's egoic dysfunctions further. ::::::::CONTAINS SPOILERS::::::::::: I'd say 90% of the movie is simply cringe-worthy with a loser-type main character interacting with other equally awkward characters in attempts to blame the world and justify their situations. The main character behaves judgementally and egotistically with no reprecussions. Unskillful behaviors 24/7. His family supplies him with food... See full review
