Solo Leveling

Preface
Solo Leveling is the most eagerly anticipated anime of Winter 2024, mostly because it faced minimal competition from new releases. Hype aside, it still got eclipsed by the ongoing success of Frieren from the previous season and it is a fairly standard power fantasy that got fervently praised by fans of the web comic. As is usually the case with fans they want you to believe it’s some subversive masterpiece, although it does nothing that its predecessors haven’t already explored, often with superior execution. Furthermore, its glaringly apparent flaws provide plenty of reasons for the... See full review

Solo Leveling

While lacking substance, Solo Leveling's greatest strength is its fight scenes. Everything else feels very low in strength in comparison. With the main character just randomly becoming a completely different person, mixed with cool fight scenes, it makes for a decent action anime, but not much else aside from that. Starting out with what I like most, is honestly just the fight scenes. They're so colorful and well-animated that they're probably some of the best fight scenes I've watched. However, what I don't like about the anime, is just how lacking it feels with everything else, especially characters... See full review

The Apothecary Diaries

I've got to go against the grain here. I understand this is an incredibly popular series but personally, I don't see how it could be considered incredible let alone one of the all time greats. The story feels incredibly driven by coincidence. At 21 episodes in we don't even have an idea of who the emperor is, who the antagonist is, what Maomao wants in life (or anyone else), and the whole show just coasts along as a result. At this point we know that someone is out to kill someone for some reason and the only thing we know is who they want to kill which makes it hard to cheer for someone to beat this... See full review

This is a humorous yuri show about a villainess exploring hers and other characters hidden fetishes and it delivers on what it promised to deliver in spades. If you clicked on it after seeing the cover image/synopsis/tags and got upset because you expected something else, its yr own damn fault.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

ThatAnimeSnob's avatar
Feb 15, 2024

1) Not saturated
Although I do not gravitate towards such genres, it is easy to see why Frieren got to be loved by so many watchers. The fantasy genre had suffered for many years, since such anime were usually lackluster videogame adaptations that were just going over the events of the game with no care for pacing or character appeal. Even worse, the isekai plague had led to a dozen fantasy-themed shows each season, most of which were slight variations of the same, lazily-written power fantasy tropes that usually involve harems and slavery. Frieren didn’t belong in either of these two types. It was... See full review

Story [4/10] I usually stick to reviewing completed anime, however, sometimes, I'm in need of the catharsis reviewing and getting my feelings out there can offer, and this is one of those times. I will include some spoilers about the general direction of the show up until episode 7, which is the latest episode out, but I won't spoil anything that I think would diminish the viewing experience.  Solo Leveling fits into what I'd call the "OP MC" genre, but it's also a zero-to-hero story, following a character who takes the "zero" to the extreme and is nicknamed "The Weakest... Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki 2nd STAGE

Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki is one of the dearest anime to me, being the first ever romance anime I watched when I really got into it. I watched the first season back in 2021 when it was airing and it was absolute peak. Now, the second season drops having me as hyped as ever. The episodes go on smoothly and they don't have you checking every two minutes how much it's got left. It's just a simple yet compelling story. Or so it was, until the very end.
Throughout the anime Tomozaki's relationship is discussed and it is arrived at the conclusion that his two final choices for building one are... See full review

Big disappointment from A1 pictures which fails to do a good job in adapting the Solo leveling anime. Animation: let's start from the most painful point of this review, the animation was really poor, for what was supposed to be one of the greatest anime of 2024, having such treatment on the animation is a complaint against the studio that made it , the movements many times seemed crooked and not at all fluid, the battles were very inconsistent between well animated moments and others rather poorly, only the last 2 episodes presented real peaks of Sakuga, the rest however was very shit, not to mention the... Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp

I really like Doctor Elise, it's not the most well-made anime, but it is pretty good. Getting to see Elise make up for her past wrongs, form friendships and save people has been really nice to watch. While the anime does have some issues, it's still quite enjoyable. I read the manwha a few months ago, and I really enjoyed it. I tend to like stories related to medicine, and I'm also just a big fan of shoujo romance lol. However, this anime is a downgrade from the manwha. It's still decently good. It's a step up from the other shoujo manwha adaptions I've seen, though it's not the best I like the romance and... See full review

I don't even know why it took me so long to finally express how much I despise this anime. I absolutely hated it. Now, I really don't even know why it's so famous and popular amongst romance fans, because Blue Spring Ride was literally the most boring, annoying, generic, mundane and mediocre romance anime I've ever seen, and worst part is you can't even justify its predictable plot by saying other anme were based off of it because it's fairly new. Well, let's start by explaining my former statement. Blue Spring Ride has everything your average romance anime would have: the bubbly, clumsy and naïve... See full review

I first came accross Burn The Witch through a trailer of the main series and after almost 3 years this special was added to it. I had forgotten what a blast this was. The character designs, the world-building, the animation; everything in Burn The Witch is perfect, and that's exactly what made these 28 minutes feel like 5. Just a shot of Noel and Ninny flying through the sky or a shot of them picking up grapes from a tree are enough to make your eyes feel like they just went through the biggest all-you-can-eat buffet. This anime really takes eye candy to another level, and the plot is just as great. I mean... See full review

It's hard to overstate how surprisingly optimistic and wholesome this show comes across, despite the themes at play. It's a perfect inversion of the Magical Girl trope, while still preserving all of the core elements; nobody ever truly gets hurt, everything is bright and colorful, and the characters all fight for their own moral code. I don't think there's a single male human character in the entire show, either. ~Synopsis~ Our MC is an incredibly big fan of Magical Girls, fawning over them and buying all their merch like her life depends on it. I wanted to like this, but I don't think there were much effort put into the story direction. It still excels with its pretty artstyle and nice sound quality, but the story direction feels like it's a downgrade and I think that's just disappointing to see that this show haven't really improved. For the characters, they don't really give you much detail about who they are, what their convictions is, and why they are the way they are. Throughout this whole show, I neither liked or disliked them. My emotions were just devoid of life, nothing made me compelled to care about the characters, aside from seeing... See full review

A Sign of Affection

Mar 11, 2024

It's really nice to see a shoujo getting such a good adaptation. Do I think the story is the most well-written? No. But is it done well? Certainly. The animes gives a light-hearted, sweet romance story between Yuki and Itsumoi. They have a healthy relationship, they both care about each other, it can be refreshing. I was really struggling to figure oout what I'd score this anime, since it's probably one of the most well-made shoujo I've seen in a long time aside from 7th Time Loop that's also currently airing. So for it's quality, I have to rate it pretty high. For the story, especially the depth of it... See full review

Feb 16, 2024

The Demon Prince of Momochi House I believe to be a somewhat decent shoujo anime, but it's not great, which is really too bad because it has the potential to be pretty good. The reason for this is that the anime lacks a lot of what the manga has. Trading away the moments that develop the characters and their relationships for cool action and mystery scenes, which really made me begin to lose interest in the anime. It's not a bad anime though, the story is still unique, the character designs are really pretty, the characters/relationships are cute, but it could have been better. Everything felt lacking and... Halfway through the season and I still cannot get into A Sign of Affection. Which is a shame because I'm a huge fan of shoujosei but this is probably my least favorite anime of the ones that have come out this season.  ~ Story ~  This is a character-focused slice of life anime following a girl, Yuki Itose, who happens to be deaf. She is a bit reminiscent of Shouko Nakashima from A Silent Voice. Except, instead of falling in love with her former bully, she quickly 'falls in love with' a random dude she meets on a train.  The premise is simple but effective so I can see why people... Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku-hen

Jan 17, 2024

After my relatively bad review of Tokyo Revengers Season 2, I've gotta say this was like the series' redeeming arc. At the close of a boring and repetitive plot, Tokyo Revengers came in stronger than ever with a new and alluring arc. This season was more than interesting, although starting slow, it built up to a massive plot-twist that doesn't fail thoroughly suprising the watcher. Definietly one of the best seasons of the series; the one that restored my hope in Tokyo Revengers as a whole and the one that made me crave for more.

Well, unfortunately this anime left me disappointed. It had a strong premise and foreshadowed some very interesting plot points. Yet it almost completely ignores the foreshadowed plot points and just doesn't live up to its potential. I assumed she would re-enter a comparatively primitive world (from a medical standpoint). I was anticipating story beats, similar to the real story of Ignasz Semmelweis, who campaigned to introduce acceptable hygenic standards in clinics. I expected her to run up against an entrenched and conservative medical establishment, who takes umbrage at her attempts to introduce... See full review

This anime could've actually been something if the main character wouldn't be your typical, boring, basic mc who for some reason is loved by every girl he talks to. The main character's personality either felt really forced or just bland throughout the first 4 episodes, after that I just stopped watching the series because of him. The girls were super cute tho and didn't feel bland like the mc, the series could've been so much more if the writer would've just taken out the mc. Wouldn't really recommend to anyone except if you're the type of loner who they make these type of shitty series for.

Gosh, it's so cute! It has such cute and sweet scenes along with funny moments. At first the unrenquinted love sort of fustrated me, but in the end it only made me root for the two main characters even more. They have such a sweet relationship with each other that it makes the anime really enjoyable to watch, it's really cheerful. Adachi is a more reserved person, yet he's able to read minds. And then there's Kurosawa who's extroverted and everyone has high respect for him. So when Adachi finds out Kurosawa likes him by reading his mind, it leads to a lot of really cute and funny moments. *MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD*     Okay so...  For me, this anime is incredibly overrated.  The main characters have no synergy, no chemistry at all. Yuki falls in love with the man in the very first episode, after seeing him on a train, and after some necessary hustle they get together but it's more like a said thing rather than it being actual dating. Yuki acts like your typical shoujo romance protagonist a japanese written character being shy, reserved, etc. Which is fine, it was expected. On the last episode so time for the review: A perfect case of something that literally LOOKS (as in artstyle/animation) good but in reality is actually pretty mid. And that's a shame because I love the mystical elements (spirits, ayakashi, shinigami) presented here. They're perfect material for an anime adaptation. Strip that away though and what's left? Well: - A romance that, at least here, doesn't really take root and bloom until the very last episode. - Main girl Himari being needy and annoying as all hell. As someone who enjoyed the manga (#2 in my books) and read the later half of the novel. I'm a bit dissapointed with the anime adaption. The anime seems to emphasize more on the fights and just drop some of the story for a faster pace. Quite a bit of the ambience/mood is dropped so the most impactful moments in the story are just glanced over and seem like everyday happenings. The animation is good and all but it just doesn't have the flair of the manga which is everything for a top quality story. 7th Time Loop has a fairly unique premise within the realm of transmigration/reincarnation and time loop shoujosei anime. Rather than this being her 'second' life, it's actually our protagonist's seventh life. So, she is rather experienced compared to others due to living multiple lives. That aspect of the premise reminds me of a romance manhwa I really liked called See You in My 19th Life. Other than that, there isn't much setting this apart from others in the genre. Starting with a very common premise, 7th Time Loop manages to stand out from the other villainess and reincarnation shoujo anime I've watched. While it may not be the most unique of stories, it feels stronger then a lot of the other ones, and this is primarily because of Rishe as the main character, with her already living six other lives and having so many skills and experiences that came with those, how she acts/her personality, her motivations being a bit different then the FL's in other animes in this genre, and also the animation. CloverWorks 2023 rom com attempts to create an entire season of shows based upon material that never made it into season one. That is quite a feat. Season one came to our screens in 2021 and was a smash hit. It was adapted from Hiroki Adachi’s popular manga that started in 2007 which (as far as we can see) is still gaining new material today. There is a lot of story to be told. It was a criticism of season one that it shoe-horned the main romantic story into the first seven-or-so episodes but then went slightly downhill after the couple started their romantic relationship. He cant feel love and his actions are only logical, so if someone doesnt like these types of mcs, it could feel un comfortable. For me i love it, it is really interesting watchinmg him being one step ahead and i was always surprised by everything, and the story is just so nteresting nccksnkjd. cant wait for next season

I love Konosuba's humor, I'll admit that my humor is pretty immature, so this is the kind of anime I tend to like Lol. However, with this spin-off, I found myself getting pretty bored. I think the main reason for this is just the fact that the anime only focuses on Megumin, so without the whole group there, I didn't enjoy it as much. Not to say this anime is bad at all, it's still pretty funny and I'm glad I watched it, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped to. Out of all the comedy anime I've watched, Konosuba and The Disatrous Life of Saiki K have remained my favorite, and this spinoff was... See full review

Violet Evergarden was the anime that really got me into anime. With its ability to make me quite emotional with its scenes of sadness and beauty, I'm really glad that it was one of my first animes, or at least, the anime that captivated me into even checking out the medium. Violet Evergarden is the story of someone who's only been used throughout her entire life, so she's never been able to explore herself, her emotions, or really just her own life at all. So when the war finally ends and she no longer has the purpose that she was originally used for, she feels empty. Not only that, but the person she... See full review

I love this anime. I wish they keep making more episodes and more seasons. There are no bad episodes. There are no badly written characters.  When you watch the 2nd season a long time after the 1st, you're not able to connect the dotes. There are some references to the previous season and also timeline changes.  The story is very unique. The MC is super OP but still he trains and gets more OP. The demi-humans, the academy arc - everything is 😘. The timeline switches add to the beauty too.  This is a must see anime for all who like fantasy, OP MC and simple and fun world building... ***No Spoilers*** One big problem in this show is the battle system is barely bare bones. You know it works with mana, skills and shields, but they never really go into it to flush it out. So all the skills are left ambiguous and the fighting is repetitive as they just hack and slash or use bland generic moves at the whim of the moment. The animation doesn’t do it any justice in this regard either so it's not flashy or fun to look at. The characters are a bit better with them being alrightish, but don’t expect any deep characters or good character building. You're just going to get characters... See full review

I have pretty mixed feelings regarding this anime. I like the vibes of it all along with the world/lore. The story isn't very coherent, which sometimes I can like quite a bit since it makes the viewer piece things together. My issue with it, is I don't think it's done well, as instead of trying to make the viewer figure things out, it just feels more messy than anything. However, I do like the social-commentary sort of aspect of it all, and how it focuses on Rouge learning to do what's right and what's equal. What makes me most interested in the anime, is the fact it vaguely reminds me of the animes... See full review

***SPOILERS*** The manga is SOOOOO much better. They skipped so much in the anime. Because of "other animes" I skipped waiting for the anime & went to the manga. But I can't see the anime matching the pace of the manga. As of chapter 68 of the manga he is cities away and fighting for his life against a dragon kin. No way they cover that distance in 3 episodes. Not to mention that the current episodes are like chapter 50 in the manga. They just did 2 epiosde of content that shouldn't come up for a long time.

Very average. Watch if you're bored.

Also, why are there black shadows imposed absolutely everywhere in this show? I know it's not just for censoring. Sometimes half the frame is covered in a shadow during a normal conversation scene. Are they trying to make a drab anime look more artsy? It doesn't work.

Some vague spoilers, but really more of a summary. To start this is a school arc, our MC is a teacher, rather than student.

What is hard, is getting past both "hero" episodes 2 & 3. Our MC main story line takes a backseat to what most of us won't give a sh!t about. But it is what it is.

Then we have our "favorite" apparently cannon mini arc throughout a few episodes of Mio trying to learn to cook human food & also almost killing everyone who taste tests it. Nailed that troop hard. Feels more like filler, but cannon filler.

Around episode 4 things seem to get... See full review

How can you give 8 or even 10 to this animation, when it had more problems than anything else: starting from the design of the characters that changed faces with each episode, the show was unable to maintain coherence for the entire duration, and then moving on to the really annoying, there were some notable ones like the fight between... An above-average anime due to the plethora of characters, many of which have had some backstory provided to them. However, there's only one other good/unique thing about this anime and it's that the final arc of this season was pretty unique and interesting. But besides that, I cannot think of any other good things about this anime. I enjoyed it, but I did feel slightly bored at times. I think the only reason anyone should seek the source material is to make sure that this adaptation wasn't bad in comparison to the source material, because oftentimes that's a very real possibility. 5.5/10

Even though I'm not a piano enthusiast, the beauty of this story still resonated with me on a deep level. Non-spoiler thoughts: Bravern is a really funny comedy-mecha anime that is prime "turn your brain off and have fun" material. The best way I have to describe the humor of this anime is that its like those japanese "long long maaaaan" commercials (see here: https://youtu.be/6-1Ue0FFrHY?feature=shared ). I make this comparison due to the cast taking absolutely ridiculous situations completely seriously, yet you can tell whoever is writing this is well aware of how unserious it is. I really liked this movie, and I'm even listening to the soundtrack while typing this, but I can admit that there's a lot this anime movie is lacking. Some of them are really upbeat and some are more emotional, and I think they were all done really well, both in english and japanese. The original premise was fun and intriguing. However, the new season in 2024 is utterly un-engaging as it gets so wrapped up inside itself it can no longer see daylight. Villainess Level 99 is yet another otome isekai that's gotten an anime adaptation. It's not as dramatic or romantic as this season's 7th Time Loop or Doctor Elise, but it does serve well in the comedic aspect. ~ Story ~
The anime doesn't have much of an overarching story unlike previous titles mentioned. It's more of a school life anime focusing on the day-to-day events of Eumiella's life. This is also not an erotic title as it's more of a romantic comedy with minimal drama, which gets resolved in a natural way without dragging out too much.   ~ Story ~

"The Fire Hunter" is a tough show to recommend. The world is interesting with a lot of various dynamics, and the characters are easy to root for. The main issue is that the story is dense. The show totals 20 episodes, and it has a lot of ground to cover in a short amount of time, which usually comes at the expense of characters or can overwhelm the audience, making it difficult to catch everything. Another issue lies in the animation, which is often relegated to stills and action shots to cover up unfinished animation. Sometimes it's done creatively, but it's hard not to notice that there were... See full review

This is a review as of episode ten. (mild spoilers) The Quick Version I want to start by saying that this show is not nearly as bad as the rating suggests. It's significantly better than the likes of Dragonar Academy and the Persona 5 recap episode which have better rating than this. I think its a case of a show with a smaller fanbase so there aren't a hoard of people giving it 5 stars simply because their favorite manga has been animated. Also I don't think most people who have already rated this show realized it was planned for 37 episodes, so the pacing definately felt slow if you expected 12. The... See full review

This one has an OK story, but it's overall not really good quality and then they did that creepy thing that I wished was long wiped from anime in episode 11. Misogyny. One-sided sexualisation and objectification of female characters, non-consensual intimate touching (between women doesn't make that BS more acceptable AND no damn woman behaves like male creeps and touches boobs without consent, damn it!). That asides of body shaming over breast sizes, like what the hell is wrong with you, women aren't men who seem to compete with "cucumber length comperisons" and "fighting" all the time... It might look like a typical love story where a girl meets boy, boy gets to know girl, boy and girl gets together and so on.  For those who just stop with watching the first few episodes and find it lacking in anything but a love story -  I believe it deserves a continuation.   The hook is showing all the typical shoujo elements but I think there's something deeper as you get to know the characters. First, I love the simple introduction to Yuki's (FL) world. It's a college student life interspersed with romance.  We are introduced to Itsuomi (ML) who comes across as worldly... See full review

italic is spoiler, so TLDR for that paragraph: weird moment of incest?? ignore it itll make the plot better teehee Honestly why did they have to make Mutsumi say that her daughter is 'in love' sob, the plot could have been SO MUCH MORE if she said it was platonic affection... Even itsumi said 'i don't want to be left behind' which is a normal thing for a child to say about their parents, 'the first heartbreak is breaking away from your parents' kind of thing BUT NO.  They always find a way to make things weird... You know how people say anime isn't just for kids? That doens't mean that kids' anime aren't made for kids. This anime is just that. It isn't bad it just isn't exactly something that will prompt any deep thought or stick with you if you are over 12. The animation is clearly for kids, the cutesy characters, the cheesy villains. It's a good kids show I'd have my kids watch but it isn't Avatar the Last Airbender which breaks down the wall between appropriate for kids and genuinely brilliant for all ages. Should you watch it? If you want to practice Japanese, want something fluffy, or you are a kid then go for... See full review

I certainly love everything to do with space so when I discovered an anime revolving (heh) around asteroids and other space pheonmena, naturally I was hooked line and sinker. That being said, the actual searching for the asteroid (so it can be named after one of the main characters) doesn't actually happen until the last two episodes. So a lot of the show becomes your atypical slice of life. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just feels like the astrology part isn't all that important. At least the Japanese voice acting and animation are good (but stay away from the English dub; Funimation... See full review

When I started this I found the premise to be really interesting. I appreciated the lighthearted humor combined with action, and saw it as just a fun casual watch.  The plot picked up a lot in seriousness and tone, while still trying to keep some of that humor, but it was not done well. The further along it got, the harder it was for the show to try to maintain that balancing act. Not to mention that the scope of the plot continued to expand rapidly in the first 12 to 15 episodes, despite a huge lack of setup, character development, and an incohesive narrative. The show throws you around from one... See full review

From what's a pretty generic premise, this anime managed to be pretty creative, and I'm really enjoying it. Starting off with an extremely common premise, someone is isekaied into a fantasy world and they're super powerful, I really didn't expect much from this anime, yet it's turning out to be one of my favorite Winter 2024 anime. The anime doesn't take itself seriously at all and Eumiella isn't the usual sort of all powerful protagonist I'd expect to see. It makes for an entertaining anime that's made me laugh a few times. He wakes up gains a instant death ability that allows him to kill evryone by saying one word: Die Ok its sounds good at first and the anime is going to progress well. Thats what I thought but no. The direction of the plot when she enters the alternate world is interesting as well. I enjoyed seeing the MC atone for her past behaviour and pursue her dreams with a dogged determination.  Pacing is where this anime struggles. It can a tad slow paced... See full review

There were some jokes here and there, and it was an emotional ride; the show was trying to make you both laugh and scared. However, it didn't last long. After some time; it became extremely brutal, scary, and eerie. It started to feel like a horror movie. The characters are good and not extremely strong but not weak either, which is a good balance. For one, the concept was pretty good... with the whole frozen-in-time narrative, but everything that came after is a big NO for me. Now, why would someone of a sound mind write a love triangle plotline between a teenage couple and their 'future' / 'alter reality' child? The underlying incestuous tone made me want to commit a crime. And the ending did not help one bit. Of all the possible premises they could’ve gone with... See full review

I was so excited for the anime and my heart sunk the more and more of the first episode i watch. It's completely soulless, I didn't laugh at a single joke. I'm so devastated that true fans of the manga didn't take on this project, or whoever did just didn't get it. It's ridicoulous that they tried to lean into the action aspects of this story, becasue it's not an action story its a gag.  To anyone that watched this anime and thought it was boring i STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to go read the manga, words can't describe how much better it is.

Here's just a small review. (THIS HAS SPOILERS.)
I personally loved it, but it's not for everyone, it doesn't really have the best character development other then the mc, and killing off all the characters except akame was pretty brutal, but unique, and I liked it. the villains were good, as you can literally see they aren't villains and it's just their side of the whole thing going on, except for that person manipulating the king, fuck him.. The emperor getting executed was unreasonable imo, he was a CHILD being manipulated and when someone tries to tell him he's wrong, he acts in the way a CHILD... See full review

Really, during the first episodes, I thought I was dealing with an underrated anime. But... my expectations were almost lost... in the middle to the end, especially the end, the story suddenly changed its focus in a strange way and came out of that fan-war atmosphere... but, well... it wasn't a very bad anime. .. In any case, I can't say that I haven't seen a worse anime this season! The story had a terrible setback. The characters and characterization were somewhat good. Graphics and animation were not bad! And I must say that I fell in love with the opening and ending! that was perfect!! It was one of the... See full review

i loved every second of this show. every week this show has become the only thing i look forward to watching. all the little interactions between our favorite pair, the music, the animation, everything.. i noticed that some of the major developments in their relationship happen when it's sunset, when night (Ichikawa) meets day (Yamada).

This anime is foremost a comedy anime, so if the first few episodes don't tickle you into a hysterical fit, then go ahead and skip this and read the rest of the review for my perspective of the "message" of the anime. Also, this is absolutely an ecchi, women are naked for gags in this and boobs are very in your face. So if that makes you uncomfortable, then be warned.  Firstly, let me gush a little about the best character in the show, The goddess Ristarte. Her reactions and slap-stick humor straight up carry the comedy in this show, and that get elevated by the... See full review

***No Spoilers*** ….. Although nothing to really spoil. This is pretty much what you would expect, besides one factor. That being that the 12 episodes are all actually connected and just make one long episode. Other than that it's a little bit of hot spring talk with a bunch of tits. It doesn’t go over the top with it though and it isn’t really sexualized besides maybe like 30 seconds. It's more just like here some tits and that's it as they talk for a min or two. Story, character, animation, and music are all bad. Low budget and no time investment so it's to be expected. Nothing else... See full review

This is a well done anime that follows the MC Frieren as she goes on a journey to understand humankind better while remembering her time with the hero's party on their 10 year adventure that leads to the defeat of the Demon King.  This anime spends a lot of time using flashbacks from Frieren's memories to link the past to the present in this anime.  The story is built very well so that you can understand all the characters perspectives at the same time spending a lot of time letting the viewer enjoy the interactions as they get to know each other and bond with each other over their journey. ... Anything that features cooking and food always attracts so this show was right up my alley. Side note, the food they are preparing do not have the typical ingredients but all ingredient-adjacent to real life food for example, an insect type looking lobster is cooked as such, and another snake-headed chicken is roasted like a chicken.  One of the unique food items they did were the jewel bugs which they made kebabs/crispy on a stick type of food.  We had those mollusk type monsters turned ala oysters.  They all became very delicious.  As we go to each episode, I am looking forward... Genuinely, I think this show became quickly the most disconnected thing from reality as it possibly could. Aoi, the character that was most likely supposed to be the heroine romanced character of the MC, quickly became a background character. This is in my opinion, a SNAFU rip off. The 2nd season doesn't feel remotely human. The characters background aren't fully explained, their personalities are a large mess, and there is almost no one you can relate to but Aoi because her background is still questionable, but her actions make sense because you just don't know her background yet (nor will you ever). Contains major spoilers First of all, I enjoyed the art. I also enjoyed the first few episodes. But then it got stale. Characters acted like MC was some kind of Messiah working wonders, but he just did basic stuff. Then they made everything obsolete by skipping time and introducing the possibility of redoing it all again, taking all the value out of it. I might have given this an average overall rating. But they made the MC leave behind his wife and daughter. His daughter simply will never exist by him going back a second time - by choice this time. This ruined it for me, big time. They tried to... Studio Shin-Ei Animation second season of the highly successful “Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu” seemed to be even more popular than season one. Its audience had grown sizeably even if it is fair to argue that season one was better and the concurrent run of “The Apothecary Diaries” in the winter of 2023/24 was technically better. What had been interesting had been the way the Kyotaro Ichikawa had started out as a disaffected and disenfranchised youth harbouring murderous fantasies about his classmates. The basis of the story is quite intresting but the execution is a total mess. It gets very confusing by 3rd episode itself but by the time you reach to the end, it gets worse "on one side of the world" ;)  Animation is quite horrible while the character style and other things are quite nice. Horrible job in execution of a quite complex storyline  Its like author wanted sci-fi and isekai in one thing, and just crumpled it together

This anime has a clear main character. that even if you met him without knowing who he was, you would know. The side characters are interesting, we don't spend half as much time with them as the MC, but they are interesting nontheless.  The MC is also interesting, in the first season he didn't seem to focus on his feelings, more on his survival, but thanks to the finale we can asume it is gonna change in the future.

Practically finished so it's safe to review now: Chained Soldier has an "interesting" concept - that of having the male protagonist (in this case, Yuuki Wakura) become slave to a female demon-hunting soldier corps. And yes, that inevitably leads to all sorts of horny shenanigans which may put some people off. It nearly did me. But stick with it and I feel it's one of the best anime we've had this season. Some people find this beautiful, and I agree, the character, personality, the internal conflicts, as well as the journey to find oneself is a great characterization, but the story is too bland, the conflict is just a calm man vs self with not much action. This isn't for me, so I'm rating it low, as they say, you can't please everyone, and I'm one of the people who isn't satisfied, but if you're fine with a calm story, then this one you might like.

Story: 8/10 The anime presents a refreshing and unique storyline, focusing on a seemingly weak tamer called Ivy who embarks on a journey to find herself. Despite its seemingly mundane premise, the plot quickly becomes engaging as it unfolds, with unexpected twists and turns keeping you eagerly anticipating each new episode. The development of the main character's journey and the underlying themes add depth to the narrative (recommend reading the manga to follow the continuing plot). Animation: 8/10 The animation is of quality, maintaining consistent design throughout. Character designs are detailed... See full review

I really enjoyed this anime, it was so pleasant to watch, a real feel good anime that can lift ones spirits.  The two MC's and the caste of characters are all good people and are very enjoyable to watch interact with each other.  Even though I did not understand the Japanese, I really enjoyed the sound of the voice actors/actresses in this anime.  I also greatly appreciated that they translated almost everything that was in the anime, from what was on the chalk board to billboards to virtually everything which rarely happens in the subbed anime.  I give a top 10/10 for whoever subbed... SEGHE's avatar
Mar 27, 2024

Story: 5/10 The anime follows the standard tropes of the isekai genre, with the protagonist reincarnated as a powerful villainess in a fantasy world. While the premise holds potential for intrigue and excitement, the execution falls flat. The storytelling lacks originality and fails to offer any significant twists or surprises, resulting in a forgettable narrative overall. Animation: 5/10 The animation is consistent in its mediocrity, with generic character designs and uninspired backgrounds. Note, the poor quality of the 3D dragon animations stands out as a particularly glaring flaw, further diminishing... See full review

Fairly cliche starting plot, made good by a) how autistic the main character is and b) how much she doesn't give a crap about the romance parts of the romance game. Some parts of the story feel like they were there because they felt they were needed to be - yumiella's girl friend, for instance, who adds very little to this season. I suspect she has more importance in the future parts of the story that aren't shown in the anime? The animation score would be better if the 3d wasn't egregiously awful. They had such a great desire to show off the dragon and they really should not have been so proud of... See full review

"WOW", as I finished the final episode of this show with a huge smile on my face hugging my pillow, a sudden motivation at 5 am in the morning pushed me to write this review. Season 2 was a MASSIVE step up from season 1, every episode was a pleasing and diabetic experience that I think I'll never be able to experience again watching an anime. Alongside some funny and wholesome moments here and there, I loved watching Yamada and Ichikawa grow as characters, especially my man Ichiwaka. The mental interactions with his

Natsunagu! is a short story in which the main character, Natsuna, sets on a journey to find her online friend, Itsuki, from whom she had not heard for the past four years.  The plot is simple and enjoyable, Natsuna meets good people along her journey and slowly picks up clues as to where she might find her friend. The characters are alright, they have their own personality and struggles. In the short time we meet them we are able to grow to like them. The animation is bright and colourful, probably needs time to adjust to. It looks like it's drawn over real life pictures. Personally, I didn't mind... See full review

Is the story good? Yes. A bit slow but it has its elements. I thought there'd be a lot of butt-kicking, iconic clap-backs, spy-koroshiya-waku-waku moments, but we were deprived of a lot when you are expecting it from a story like this.  But there are a lot of cute and 😏 doki-doki moments, which I bet you would never NOT LIKE.  The story is nice overall. Something to watch when you're bored. Maybe when you binge-watch the whole season, it might become more interesting.

If you watched and enjoyed the first season then you should enjoy this second adaptation too. I would rate it not quite as good as the first, but that is largely down to the choices they made in adapting it. Let me explain, and consider this your spoiler warning for the light novels: Following the events of the first season is a new arc revolving around the former mayor Mistorm that takes up several volumes. By choosing to try and adapt the majority of Van's saga they had to skip Mistorm's arc by necessity. As a result she appears only tangentially throughout the episodes and is referenced to as the former... See full review

***No spoilers*** This feels like it was missing episodes in the middle and near the end. Leading to many moments of wtf who is that, what's going on, why are they doing this etc. On top of that the pacing is bad, characters are bland or kill within a few mins and the animation especially the black blur they use around edges on scenes is annoying and horrible looking. It's not the censored blur either. I can’t think of anything nice to say about the show. Maybe I'm interested to see how the MC’s relationship will go, that sort of seems like it could be neat ? 4/10

If you're expecting it to be anything like Seasons 1 or 2, you'll be disappointed for sure. I'd give the story a 2/10 because honestly, I can barely remember anything from it. Animation-wise, it's worse than the other seasons and all over the place (inconsistant), so a 4/10 for animation. The sound was just okay, nothing special. Genius. I don't know how many times I rewatched scenes.  You will never look at any of the major dark anime series the same again.

Sentai Studios 2018 CGI horror flick is pretty horrific yes, but it is spoilt by its muddled and mixed-up story-telling. Shangri-la Frontier is an interesting watch if you're keeping up with the world. It's not a particularly complex anime by any means, but it explores a genre so often-treaded, yet stands out among its contemporaries. No, not because it's a dumb fun show without a grim twist like other MMO-set media, nor is it a weird harem romcom power fantasy. It's interesting because of how it mirrors modern conventions of game design, tying them into its storytelling style to craft both a world and narrative that lends itself to further elaboration. This was a fun anime in that it comes from a different perspective than the usual anime with a good story and great characters.  This is a more family oriented fantasy anime that has a lot of light hearted moments in it while providing a lot of action throughout the entire season.  There is a lot of character growth and development of the blackcat and the intelligent sword as well as some world building.  The main focus of the story is on the interactions between the blackcat and the intelligent sword while they are both on their journey to become stronger together.  The viewer can... Okay so I'm only on ep 7 but I'm still surprised to see no reviews yet.

I think this a kinda weird anime. I have many questions about our two protagonists. Why is Ashaf so vague and seems so knowledgeable about everything? Why doesn't Guideau know anything about the world, how did Guideau get cursed, why that curse, how come Guideau doesn't know/remember the witch that cursed them, if Guideau is apparently genderless why do they want to get back to their original body so badly? It's all clearly part of the plot as part of Guideaus backstory but it's frustrating as we're given very... See full review

I dislike reisha , I don't know why she keep whining about everything , and even defeated a HERO. Is that even making sense ? The Raccoon girl that follows naofumi is stronger then she is and can't even defeat The heros , so is the writer saying Reisha can fight toe to toe with GLASS ?  I'll be giving this Season 5 or 4.5 review because of reisha and Malty , all this could have ended in season 1 malty could have died and Non of the otherworldly heros won't have access to Naofumis world  , it sickens me to the core

It had potential then it went downhill. This was a fruit salad of shock and awe. Was it an adaptation issue or the story is just plain bad? The characters are just existing for the sake of creating drama. The guy who wanted revenge. The girl who is a hopeless damsel on distress type who ends up falling in love with his kidnapper. The other side characters that you don't care about.  And there are a lot of side characters that are bland. There is no clear backstory, no understanding of how his powers work, no clue on what the real agenda is and they just go from one place to another to create chaos... See full review

I really like it. It's so sweet, and light hearted. It's the humorous take on being reborn as a villainous without all the cringe from second hand embarrassment. Also, Patrick is a darling and I love him. Same with the MC, I just want to wrap her up in a blanket and cuddle her, she's so misunderstood. 😔

Nearly finished this so might as well put out a review: I've always seen Mobile Suit Gundam as the godfather (grandfather) of mecha anime; all others owe it to this one (including Evangelion which didn't air until the 90s). It was always on my bucket list to watch this from start to end and I've almost achieved that. Despite this being made/aired in the late 70s/early 80s, the animation and sound quality are a lot better than I expected. With more modern sprucing up, I firmly believe this could be aired today. The story isn't the most original but it's still compelling from beginning to end. Same goes... See full review

Beast Tamer

You'll enjoy this anime if you want to watch an OP main character with essentially no challenges have uninteresting adventures where he also tames, aka bonds with, a new monster girl almost every episode. Also, each of those monster girls thinks he's superb in every way and is in love with him, meanwhile, he is too dense to notice.  Overall, this is a slightly above-average modern fantasy harem anime. The beast-tamer gimmick would have been more compelling if they didn't immediately abandon the negative aspects of being a tamer - i.e. a support class where the tamer is physically weak and reliant on... I was very introverted and still am a bit so to see her growing and trying to overcome this by playing the guitar etc. was awesome. Not only her tho, I loved every character. Everyone had a different personality which made them all awesome in their own way, and I love that. The music, of course, was good. Now, there were also some funny scenes where they used... Lucky Star is a delightful and charming anime that takes a humorous approach to the mundane aspects of everyday life, particularly the high school experience. The series primarily revolves around Konata Izumi, a hardcore otaku, and her interactions with her friends Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki. What sets Lucky Star apart is its ability to turn seemingly ordinary situations into comedic gold. Lucky Star excels in delivering humor through clever dialogue, pop culture references, and the characters' quirky personalities.

The story does suffer from the same curse as many other anime movies in that it seems like the movie doesn't impact the core plot we've been watching very much. That said, it was awfuly fun to see the characters we know and love in a few new circumstances. The animation is on par with the show and fights are very fun. Anya's theme still makes me laugh. It's a step up from season two, but still not as good as season one. For me personally, it lost the excitement and sort of mystery kind of feeling season one had, but the animation did improve from season two, a bit. Not to say season three is bad, I'd describe it as decent. I liked season one pretty well, it was exciting and I liked the whole school concept and the different challenges. When season two came around, it was still a decently interesting story with the whole cruise ship arc and everything, but the animation was so bad that it kind of put a damper on the story. Almost immediatley, you'll notice that this season doesn't have as much comedy (though there's some here and there) and i'm glad for that. Now I can appreciate the action and drama more. Hoenstly, I don't have much more to say. It carries on the greatness of what came before and that's what a sequel SHOULD do. I can describe this anime through the following analogy: It's like having a cool spaceship that can travel the universe with unlimited fuel. However, instead of embarking on an epic adventure, the pilot decides to use the spaceship to travel from country to country on Earth. Occasionally, he visits the moon, but that's as far as he goes. It feels weird to have this cool spaceship - this cool anime, with all its raw potential, unique and engaging story, and characters, but do nothing with it. The best way to describe this movie is by using a comparison. Imagine yourself entering a restaurant and ordering some food. You start smelling some delicious scents coming from the kitchen, which makes you excited to try out the food. But unfortunately, when the waiter comes with the food, you realize that everything was a lie. The scents were coming from outside the restaurant from another shop, and the food that the waiter brought was terrible. Same thing with this movie.. Tokyo Revengers: Seiya Kessen-hen Despite a solid concept, the first season was already a tragedy, so I'm not surprised that the second season continues at a qualitatively mediocre level. The only exception is that I find this season more likable. It became more of a generic shounen, but at least it had some sort of goal, no matter how stupid it was. The highlight of this season was the protagonist because he really started to develop and not just talk about it all the time. There's being kind and then there's being a doormat and when someone has left you to die twice its far past time to stop being a doormat. These characters make little sense in their reactions.
