I hadn't really watched anime since I was young, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Dragonball Z. All the classics.

yeah i mean if you know the basic story line you can understand the movie but you have to know the charcters and basicly what happened other wise parts are somewhat confusing imo

advent children is a really good movie but unless you have played final fantasy 7 its not going to make much sense lol and yes the site is really useful i check it everyday to see if new animes or movies are coming out and also ova's lol i also use moetron.com they tell me what animes are getting green lit for production before the other site has them listed
