What Porcupine Tree have you heard? I used to be of a similar opinion to you, but even then I loved songs like The Rest Will Flow, Shesmovedon and Lazarus.
I notice from your LastFM profile that you're a fan of Broken Social Scene and Feist. Have you heard the band Stars? They're another group that formed from BSS members, and they are truly excellent. Their Set Yourself On Fire album is highly recommended.
Sorry for the confusion about the AMV thing. I'd just posted my favourite AMVs on my profile when I got your message, and one of those AMVs used Porcupine Tree's Trains. On that note, if you have time, would you mind checking out the AMV I made (link at the top of my bio), I'm trying to get as much feedback on it as possible.
