I'm a starving college student with a large collection of anime, but not a lot of manga.  I love action and plot filled anime, but I'm easily turned off by certain drawing styles. In turn if the style is beautiful I find myself drawn into slice-of-life anime such as Clannad. My anime collection is ever-growing, and I try to frequent as many of the free anime conventions in my area as possible- Yay for Animarathon!

I don't typically buy manga due to the fact that I can read one within 20min or less, and they cost over $10 each. I do have a couple plushies, and many fleece hats... I got into anime when I was 7 or 8 with Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, etc. Basically the whole Toonami lineup from way back when.

Also, I am a major Miyazaki fan and I will growl at anyone who tells me Gundams are impossible.

Well, we've already managed prototype power-armor and we have giant mecha-bulls that can walk across rugged terrain, so I can forsee that as a future possibility assuming we find some energy source that'd make such creations practically useful. Still, I don't think we'll ever have truly autonomous machines - computers are only as smart as you make them, and it's hard to get anything that can only think in terms of 0 or 1 to be beyond surprisingly dumb. Let them out of the confines of their very-particular tasks in a predefined space without a human operator and you're just asking for trouble.

Hopefully I've avoided a growling at, though - I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to comment on Gundam physics. On top of that, you like Clannad and have shoutouts to the old school Toonami (Sailor Moon at 4pm, followed by DBZ at 5pm, rounded out with Outlaw Star at 12am...classic!), so props are well deserved!

Your profile comment compels me to respond.Gundams are not impossible, just mostly impractical. They have a tendency, you see, to do things like gather their mass at points far away from their centers of rotation (see: Gundams with massive legs below the knee joint) which renders them a rather poor design. I actually had an undergrad physics professor who railed on Gundams as a violation of every practical law of physics, lol. If we ever do see Gundam-esque creations irl, they'd likely look significantly different...and probably significantly less cool. Damn! =(

I first watched Laputa which I enjoyed but after seeing Spirited Away, I now want to see more of his films.

Nice to meet another college student with similar taste in anime. I also enjoy slice-of-life and action. Though I have only seen a couple of Miyazaki's films, I really enjoyed them and hope to see more. I've been meaning to watch Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle since those are highly praised.
