Air

Aug 12, 2010

Story: I became really confused at a lot of the story for AIR. Some of it I didn’t accept and other parts were just downright confusing. For starters, I do not accept the whole Michiru part at all. I’m not going to spoil but, unlike the Fuka-chan arc in Clannad, I wasn’t ok with it. However, it is a deep story. The plot is profound and original. It is slow-paced but does have random bits of humor to downplay the seriousness. It has much more drama than comedy but it isn’t too dark. Don’t expect a happily ever after but the ending isn't completely depressing either. I... See full review

Air Gear

Jan 29, 2010

Story: Air Gear is definitely funny. I'm usually not a fan of ecchi nor did I suddenly become one due to Air Gear but I loved the humor. I stopped Air Gear at first become the sexual content threw me off but I found myself undergoing withdrawal and missing the laughs. The action, drama and comedy all go together pretty nicely. However, the ending is awful. It leaves so much open ended and many questions unanswered. Unsatisfying ending. But the rest entertaining and engaging. The rolling skate aspect is pretty unique and interesting as well. Also, the relationship are a lot more indepth than they first... See full review

Air Gear: Kuro no Hane to Nemuri no Mori -Break on the Sky-

May 31, 2012

Story/Characters: More-or-less, this carters to soley Air Gear fans who wanted more. However, I definitely think it's lacking. For anyone, who hasn't seen Air Gear, this wouldn't make any sense. For those who only watched the anime, the OVA is just a hodgepodge of scene without fluidity. It's as if they liked a certain arc, picked out a couple chapters they liked, and simply animated those without making the chapters in between. They're a lack of explanation and a real ending as well. So the only ones who wouldn't be completely confused are the ones who keep up with the manga and even there it's... See full review

Antique Bakery

Jan 26, 2011

Story: I'm usually not a shounen-ai fan but I'm a sucker for food. Therefore, I tried it with the hope that nothing would be too explicit. I was pleasantly surprised. It got me instantly hooked with an intriguing background, food, comedy, drama and did I mention food. I has humor which is light but still funny. The drama does get heavier toward the end of the series but nothing too over the top. There is romance but nothing hot and heavy. The pacing was nice with a really nice ending. It had a complete feel to and I liked the journey. Some things were predictable but there were still some... See full review

Baccano!

Aug 15, 2011

Story: For a story that consisted of several parts and characters, it came together very well. All the pieces fit together that kept you guessing until the last moment. There weren't several loose ends (even shows with a few characters, one plot, and 20+ episodes can't pull this off) and left you wanting more only because the journey was so great that you want to do it all over again. Baccano! tells it's story with style and plenty of humour. I wasn't expecting to be laughing so much and enjoying the story as much as I did (I don't do well with complicated stories because I become confused easily). Baccano... See full review

Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts

Jul 30, 2010

Story: Baka and Test lacks in the plot department. However, it doesn't lend itself to having a deep and profound plot. It's full of running gags and comedy and it does well in both aspects. It's incredibly funny and the gags don't really get old. They're humorous from the beginning to the end. I laughed a lot and I would watch it again. It's light and funny and doesn't give you too much to think about other than how enjoying it is to watch. Some elements are recycled and, although it had little plot, I thoroughly enjoyed it and had fun watching it. Animation: Other than the weird polka dot... See full review

Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts 2

Dec 13, 2011

Story: A less funny verision of the first season. It had it's good points but not enough of them.  Animation: Same as season 1. Sound: Same as season 2. The opening and endings actually grew on me. Characters: Become more annoying as the series progressed. Overall: Alright but season 1 was better.

Black Butler

Nov 30, 2010

Plot: A very promising premise but I felt it disappointed a little. The beginning of the series felt very episodic with only a few flashbacks and bits that hinted toward a solid plot. The second half delivered a lot more but I felt was confusing. Much is not said explicitly so you have to think about it. Surprisingly, there is a lot of fanservice. Although not explicit ecchi, there is a lot especially with Ciel and Sebastian. That disappointed me because I felt that there could have been much stronger relationship if there wasn't the hints of shota. The episodic beginning didn't kill the series for me... See full review

Black Butler 2

Aug 1, 2011

Story: Season one was disappointing so I intetionally did not intend on watching season two. However, I read the manga (which is actually good) and I missed seeing Sebastian. Therefore, I decided to watch season II. I should have known better. The plot is scattered and haphazard. It felt like it was all over the pace and pacing was not good to say the least. I had low expectations to start out and it didn't even meet those. The positive aspects of season one was the dark humour and interesting premise (although it fell flat). This didn't have much humour and the premise was....mediocre compared to the... See full review

Bleach: Memories in the Rain

Feb 12, 2010

For Bleach fans, this OVA definitely made up for the episodes in the anime. The anime completely ruined the whole Grand Fischer vs. Ichigo thing. The OVA is basically like Bleach without the filler. For non-Bleach fans, I wouldn't recommend it b/c the background and storyline would be confusing.

Bleach: The Sealed Sword Frenzy

Jun 17, 2010

Story: This was very reminiscent of the bount arc in bleach to me. The illogical decisions that were made baffled me throughout this OVA which include: Renji using a human gun on a Baishin, the Soul Society's decision to send 5 captains and Soifon out to fight this guy, the captains decide to fight hollows while letting Rukia, Renji, and Ichigo battle Baishin, and then the explanations at the end. Those were just a few of parts that made me angry. However, there was lots of comedy including the special ending which I loved. So all of it wasn't a fail but a majority of it was. Animation... Blood-C

Dec 13, 2011

Story: This is one of the first series that I completely started anew with. Every week was the only new information I got about Blood-C. I finally understood what people mean when they say a series is slow. Waiting every week for something new to happen can be frustrating. That being said, Blood-C started of with a formula. Saya's journey to the cafe, school, and then the last couple of minutes was a fight with an Elder's Brain. The next couple of episodes felt the same with a little bit of information. Finally, things picked up. Things were getting mysterious, strange and outlandish. I was intrigued... See full review

Blue Exorcist

Dec 13, 2011

Story: This series was made prematurely. It should have waited longer until it had more content to work with. It started off well but ended disappointly. I will come out and say that I am a fan of the manga and I was sad to see that it turned out like this. I liked the idea but it just didn't come through. It wasn't awful though and it was fun. I would like a second season but, with the way it ended, I doubt it. As a whole, the series is ok. Just ok.  Animation: I really liked the animation. I liked the character designs and the backgrounds. It was colorful and vibrant but dark and sinister when it... See full review

Bunny Drop

Dec 13, 2011

Story: Never knew slice of life could be so realistic and beautiful. There is little overdramatic or surprising that happens throughout the series. It's simply about a man in his 30's getting a daughter who is 6. It's heart warming, and cozy feeling. Episodes just fly by without needing to much fluff or drama. It's just the both of them settling in with each other and slowly opening up. One of the most endearing relationships I have seen in an anime. You can't not be happy after watching an episode. Animation: I loved the style of the series. It's definitely different and has a watercolor look to it. I... See full review

Aug 2, 2010

Story: To start this off, I have not seen Kanon so I can't make comparisons or references to it. That being said, I really loved Clannad. It had so many elements that were all done incredibly well. The heartwarming scenes and hilarious scenes achieved just that. I was a little confused with the robot and the girl though. It seemed like it played a huge part in the show but I didn't understand why. I also didn't really accept the whole Fuka-chan part. Those were my only two issues with the series. I loved it otherwise and it has an appeal for a wide range of people. It left you with a great feeling... See full review

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

May 28, 2011

Story: I'm not usually a fan of mecha or political series. I'm especially not a fan of series involving stragies because I usually don't understand what's going on. For example, in Death Note, I need all of that explanation or I really would have no clue what was going on. However, Code Geass was a complete surprise. I incredibly enjoyed it. At first, I thought it was ok. However, as I continued the series, I became enthralled. I wanted to keep going. The pacing was excellent. It kept you going without feeling like you're being bombarded. There is not a single filler episode with all of the series. It is... See full review

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Nov 15, 2010

Story: Dance in the Vampire Bund just tried to put too many things and genre into one. It was romance, comedy, action, drama, political, loli, supernatural without enough in each to make something solid. I feel like it could have potential because it is an interesting take on supernatural creatures but I ended the series wishing that it had more or it could have been blended better. I'm not much of a fan of the whole pedophilia thing (I know that she's like centuries old but she's still in the body of a 12 year old so it's a little creepy along with the relationship of the student council president and her... Darker than Black

Jun 27, 2011

Story: I really liked the concept and pacing of the series. It didn't go too fast but not too slow either. It usually consisted of 2 episode long stories with some events in each that dealt with the bigger picture. However, I am disappointed with the ending. I felt there were too many things left unanswered and vague. The explanation for what happened in the past was also unclear. The plot did have some predictable moments but there were more surprises to balance it out. Although for the most part, I really enjoyed the series. It was pretty dark but it always had a light side to balance it such as the... See full review

Deadman Wonderland

Jul 10, 2011

Story: I'm usually not much for gore but I was really interested in this series for some reason. It starts of with a very interesting premise with Ganta going to the prison Deadman Wonderland for a crime he doesn't commit. It continues the madness and insanity through all the episdoes. The pacing is great without an episode of filler or a dull moment. There is a great amount of shock factor after a simply calm and almost happy moment. However, the finale leaves MUCH to be desired. It is definitely banking on a second season because there are SO many questions that are left untold along with many people's... See full review

Death Note

Jan 31, 2010

Story: If I had to give rating for the first arc, it would be a 10. If I had to give a rating for the second arc, it would be about an 8.5. If I had to give a rating to the 3rd arc, it would be about a 4. Death note started out really great but towards the end it killed it. The third arcs characters and story line fell flat especially compared to the first half. The ending was not fitting at all (I preferred the manga's ending). Also, although the second arc was still great, it somewhat copied the first arc. All in all, Death Note's story had so much potential and didn't quite come through all the way... See full review

Dragon Ball

Feb 1, 2010

Story: For starters, in my book, Dragon Ball is a classic. I definitely prefer it to DBZ. It lacks the five episodes dedicated to one power up and unfathomable power levels (do they even make numbers that big). Dragon Ball is fun and interesting with plenty of humor. For sure, this anime is for comedy and action lovers. The battles aren't drawn out and can be pretty unexpected. There are some inconsistencies and the ending fell a little flat which is why this score isn't higher; however, all and all, 150 episodes and I wasn't bored. Animation: Since Dragon Ball is an older... Story: The concept of dream and dream demons was very interesting. I liked the idea and adding a cute heroine definitely made things better. However, it just didn't deliver as well as I would have liked. They had a good thing going but the ending felt so complete. They added all these undeveloped bits that I wonder why they added them in the first. What was the point of mentioning the romance or introducing certain ideas if they won't be carried out? The ending was mediocre at best leaving many unanswered questions. It had good ideas and theme along with some cuteness and humour but that wasn't enough. The... See full review

Durarara!!

Sep 13, 2010

Plot: Durarara!! is one the more unique animes that I have seen. I haven’t seen an anime with the same feel as Durarara!!. At first it seem like there were a lot characters and a lot of things going on. However, as the episodes continued, I was able to see how these minor events connected together and how the city of Ikebukuro can be both big and small at the same time. I loved the first arc. There were some flaws with the slasher arc (or I just didn’t understand it). I also really enjoyed the ending. For the most part, things were well paced and I never got bored. Also, surprisingly... Story: I had little idea about the this series was about before I started so I was basically like a blank state. Immediately from episode 1, I was hooked. The concept was intriguing and exciting. It leaves you guessing and does eventually explain things to you but gives you hints to figure it for yourself. The pacing was steady without being too fast or slow. Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa

Feb 12, 2010

Story: Conqueror of Shamballa's plot does not come ANYWHERE near FMA's in creativity and coherency. The two worlds were not fully developed and neither was the rest of the plot. Being a huge fan of FMA, I was completely disappointed. There was little good about this movie. I did like the freakish fight with Gluttony but it made little sense. The ending was lackluster as well. Animation: Beautiful animation. Scenes were fluid and reminiscent of FMA. Story: Gosick is basically a decetive series with both a Victorian and school setting. The mysteries usually seem paranormal at first but the truth is revealed otherwise. While the mysteries themselves usually last an episode or two, there is a greater plot which bits are told through each mysteries. It is slow paced for the most part but that isn't a bad thing. The ending was definitely the most exciting mystery and the ending was much more face paced than the rest of the series. It was kind of like an adrenaline rush with a very fitting ending. Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

May 31, 2012

Story: The series starts off with an interesting premise. However, I think it falls flat while resorting to the typical high school scenes (festival, karoke, beach) without offering too much. I did think there was a decent amount of humour and I did laugh quite a bit. However, the ecchi was a bit much for me. I think they could have toned it down and tried to put more content in place. In addition, some aspects were poorly explained or weren't developed thoroughly. The conclusion was subpar if not just plain bad. It makes a decent laugh but I do think they are series out there that are both funny and full... See full review

It was very realistic but had enough drama, romance, comedy and wit to keep you wanting more. The plot doesn't go at a snail pace but is well developed without feeling like too much at once. There is some unpredictability which keeps you guessing. There are a few filler-ish episodes which brings down the series a bit but only a by a bit. Story: The reason why I wanted to watch Happiness! was because I saw Jun Watarase and I thought he was hilarious. I soon realized that it was a horrible reason to watch a series. As awesome as Jun is, he cannot make up for the lack of interest I had in Happiness! Usually it’s a bad sign if you bored from the very first episode. It does attempt to have some type of plot but it just seems so lackluster. It attempts drama but you don’t care too much for the characters. It was hilarious and the skits were just priceless. It was offensive but funny at the same time. I loved the relationships and chibitalia is just the cutest thing on the face of anime.
