Lucky Star

Apr 25, 2011

Story: I heard a lot of good things about Lucky Star. However, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was funny but not hilarious. Maybe if I understood more of the parodies, I would have enjoyed it more. It was very light and cute. Nothing too serious or would take a lot thinking. I only took off points because it wasn't as funny as I was expecting. I was entertained for the most part but I wasn't incredibly excited to watch the next. I thought the ending was too open ended for me. The Lucky channel was ok. It did get better. Also, I didn't expect too much of a plot and that's what I got. The... See full review

Air Gear: Kuro no Hane to Nemuri no Mori -Break on the Sky-

May 31, 2012

Story/Characters: More-or-less, this carters to soley Air Gear fans who wanted more. However, I definitely think it's lacking. For anyone, who hasn't seen Air Gear, this wouldn't make any sense. For those who only watched the anime, the OVA is just a hodgepodge of scene without fluidity. It's as if they liked a certain arc, picked out a couple chapters they liked, and simply animated those without making the chapters in between. They're a lack of explanation and a real ending as well. So the only ones who wouldn't be completely confused are the ones who keep up with the manga and even there it's... See full review

Tokyo Mew Mew

Jan 29, 2010

Story: Up to date, this has to be the worst anime that I have seen. I do not know what kept me from stopping because I have little good to say about this and I am incredibly embarrassed to have say I have seen all 50 something episodes. It started off badly and ended that way with a plethora of fillers in middle. It's like a crap sandwich with stale bread so to speak. Fillers have little point and feel like waste of time. The "romance" was  flawed and Mew Mew reeked of typical shojo which is annoying girl with little redeeming qualities somehow attracts high status boys... See full review

Bunny Drop

Dec 13, 2011

Story: Never knew slice of life could be so realistic and beautiful. There is little overdramatic or surprising that happens throughout the series. It's simply about a man in his 30's getting a daughter who is 6. It's heart warming, and cozy feeling. Episodes just fly by without needing to much fluff or drama. It's just the both of them settling in with each other and slowly opening up. One of the most endearing relationships I have seen in an anime. You can't not be happy after watching an episode. Animation: I loved the style of the series. It's definitely different and has a watercolor look to it. I... See full review

Black Butler 2

Aug 1, 2011

Story: Season one was disappointing so I intetionally did not intend on watching season two. However, I read the manga (which is actually good) and I missed seeing Sebastian. Therefore, I decided to watch season II. I should have known better. The plot is scattered and haphazard. It felt like it was all over the pace and pacing was not good to say the least. I had low expectations to start out and it didn't even meet those. The positive aspects of season one was the dark humour and interesting premise (although it fell flat). This didn't have much humour and the premise was....mediocre compared to the... See full review

Ultra Maniac

Apr 14, 2011

Story: I love magical girl, comedy and romance. That is what Ultra Maniac was supposed to be. However, it didn't live to my expectations at all. I wasn't expecting much. At the very least, some humor with some fluff. I didn't even get that. At the very best, I got a chuckle. It was also very predictable. When I watch fluff, I expect at least some drama and something surprising. However, there was little that wasn't unpxpected.  The romance and the magical girl was lackluster. Not put very elogantly, but to sum this series up, it was pretty lame. Animation: This is an older series so the animation is... See full review

Shugo Chara Party!

Dec 18, 2010

Story: So the ending of Shugo Chara Doki disappointed me a little. However, I still enjoyed it and I was happy to continue of to Shugo Chara Party. However, my hopes crashed after the very beginning. First of the new changes that were added were the cosplayers. I don't understand their purpose and they just annoyed me. I don't watch anime to watch real people dressed up as anime characters. If I did, I would go to a con. The little skits that the cosplayers did annoyed me too like the nail art and dance lessons. Are you serious? Then came Shugo Chara Puchi Puchi which were small segments involving the... See full review

La Corda D'Oro ~primo passo~

Aug 12, 2010

Story:  I’ve been playing the piano for over 9 years. I have a deep love for a lot of music and great appreciation for classical music. So when I heard of La Corda D’Oro, I was very excited. Two of my favorite things (shoujo and music) put into one. I thought that if at least the shoujo part turned sour, I had the music to look forward. I was disappointed in both aspects. The plot doesn’t connect or doesn’t fully flesh out. The relationships are shallow with little reason behind them. Hihara, Len, and Tsuchiura all seem to like Kahoko for some unknown reason and that’s... See full review

Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa

Feb 12, 2010

Story: Conqueror of Shamballa's plot does not come ANYWHERE near FMA's in creativity and coherency. The two worlds were not fully developed and neither was the rest of the plot. Being a huge fan of FMA, I was completely disappointed. There was little good about this movie. I did like the freakish fight with Gluttony but it made little sense. The ending was lackluster as well. Animation: Beautiful animation. Scenes were fluid and reminiscent of FMA. Edward's world was a bit bland looking but that was what they were going for. Sound: Like the animation, it was great. I can't say much... See full review

Dragon Ball

Feb 1, 2010

Story: For starters, in my book, Dragon Ball is a classic. I definitely prefer it to DBZ. It lacks the five episodes dedicated to one power up and unfathomable power levels (do they even make numbers that big). Dragon Ball is fun and interesting with plenty of humor. For sure, this anime is for comedy and action lovers. The battles aren't drawn out and can be pretty unexpected. There are some inconsistencies and the ending fell a little flat which is why this score isn't higher; however, all and all, 150 episodes and I wasn't bored. Animation: Since Dragon Ball is an older... Death Note

Jan 31, 2010

Story: If I had to give rating for the first arc, it would be a 10. If I had to give a rating for the second arc, it would be about an 8.5. If I had to give a rating to the 3rd arc, it would be about a 4. Death note started out really great but towards the end it killed it. The third arcs characters and story line fell flat especially compared to the first half. The ending was not fitting at all (I preferred the manga's ending). Also, although the second arc was still great, it somewhat copied the first arc. All in all, Death Note's story had so much potential and didn't quite come through all the way... See full review

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

May 31, 2012

Story: The series starts off with an interesting premise. However, I think it falls flat while resorting to the typical high school scenes (festival, karoke, beach) without offering too much. I did think there was a decent amount of humour and I did laugh quite a bit. However, the ecchi was a bit much for me. I think they could have toned it down and tried to put more content in place. In addition, some aspects were poorly explained or weren't developed thoroughly. The conclusion was subpar if not just plain bad. It makes a decent laugh but I do think they are series out there that are both funny and full... See full review

Blue Exorcist

Dec 13, 2011

Story: This series was made prematurely. It should have waited longer until it had more content to work with. It started off well but ended disappointly. I will come out and say that I am a fan of the manga and I was sad to see that it turned out like this. I liked the idea but it just didn't come through. It wasn't awful though and it was fun. I would like a second season but, with the way it ended, I doubt it. As a whole, the series is ok. Just ok.  Animation: I really liked the animation. I liked the character designs and the backgrounds. It was colorful and vibrant but dark and sinister when it... See full review

One Piece Movie 6: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island

Sep 2, 2011

Story: It was a truly bizarre concept. I have never thought of One Piece as being creepy but this movie definitely was. However, we do get some action, comedy, and Luffy being a hero which is nice anytime of the day. It's not a complete waste but it is a pretty freaky movie. There are also some holes at the end though. Animation: I have never given something a question mark but that is how strange the animation was. Usually animation for anime movies is similar to the anime itself but has better quality. This was completely different animation. I've a seen a very tiny amount of this style in the anime but... Nabari no Ou

Apr 9, 2011

Story: I acutally really liked parts of the stories. I thought it had some interesting potential and concept. However, it became vague with a lot of gaps. There were random flashbacks that weren't fully explained. People's pasts weren't fleshed out enough either. I liked the ninja aspect of it but I became confused at times. In addition, the resolution for the climax felt anticlimatic and I did enjoy the ending as bittersweet as it was. All in all, I enjoyed watching the series. It had laughs, action, comedy and drama. Story: I'm usually not a shounen-ai fan but I'm a sucker for food. Therefore, I tried it with the hope that nothing would be too explicit. I was pleasantly surprised. It got me instantly hooked with an intriguing background, food, comedy, drama and did I mention food. I has humor which is light but still funny. The drama does get heavier toward the end of the series but nothing too over the top. There is romance but nothing hot and heavy. The pacing was nice with a really nice ending. It had a complete feel to and I liked the journey. Some things were predictable but there were still some... See full review

Squid Girl

Jan 2, 2011

Story: A squid girl attempts to invade the world but ends up working at a beach store. That should already tell you that there really isn't any deep plot. The episodes consist of about two to three segments of the various antics surrounding squid girl. There is little deapth but I wasn't expecting anything too profound. The segments never feel too long and are full of cuteness and sillyness. It's just a bundle of fun. There is some attempt of seriousness at the end but it becomes resolved quickly with a cute message about being yourself. It kept me laughing from the first episode to the last. If you're... Honey and Clover II

Dec 22, 2010

Story: It picks up where Honey and Clover left off. Unlike the first, this is more plot driven, although that's not a bad thing. However, there is noticably a lot more drama. There is still a lot of comedy but not as much. That's a given knowing that this season is much shorter and had to tie up a lot of loose endings. It has the same feel of the first season but with more drama. The ending was bittersweet and understandable. Not predictable but it made a lot of sense. Although I didn't like some of the decisions, there were the best ones that the characters could make. It left me feeling sad and happy at... See full review

Dec 13, 2010

Story: It's a bundle of laughs and some perverted humor. It's not nearly as perverted as Seitokai Yakuindomo but it's definitely adult humor. However, it definitely delivers in this aspect. For the most part, it was episodic but towards the end you actually got some plot. It never gets too dramatic which is a good thing. It's meant to be funny and it does so. The songs are hilarious too. There are some running gags but they work. It's really nice when you need something that's funny and not serious. Animation: Nothing amazing because it wasn't going for it. The characters look a little chunky. The more... See full review

School Rumble: 2nd Semester

Dec 7, 2010

Story: It starts off where School Rumble ended. I am going to warn you that you don't really get too much progress with either of the main relationships but I wasn't really expecting it. There is some development but not enough to make real drama which isn't really what School Rumble is about. It is about some romance but twice as much random comedy. You will laugh your ass off because School Rumble really does deliver. There is some plot but most of the time it's just random which is what it's going for. Seitokai Yakuindomo

Oct 9, 2010

Story: Seitokai Yakuindomo is basically a bunch of short skits put together. It's pretty random with little connection between scenes. Not too much plot but it didn't really lend itself to one. The anime followed the seasons and showed the typical scenes that happen in any anime with a school setting (cultural festival, sport festival, Christmas, Valentine's Day, school trip, and to the beach for summer). However, the real basis for Seitokai Yakuindomo is the humor. The humor is incredibly crude and you'll be going "WTF, she did not just say that?!" plenty of times during each episode... Tsubasa: Spring Thunder Chronicle

Aug 27, 2010

Story: Let me start off my telling you that you need to be caught up in the manga in order to understand what is going on. The story starts around the end of volume 21 to 23. However, they make a numerous amount of flashbacks of scenes from the manga that were not in the anime or Tokyo Revelations. The flashbacks did make sense with the storyline though I wish that the producers would have made another season with the events between Tokyo Revelations and Shunraiki. The story also alludes to scenest that are yet to come. Without reading the manga, you'll be lost. That being said, the plot delves in deeper... See full review

Aug 12, 2010

Story: I became really confused at a lot of the story for AIR. Some of it I didn’t accept and other parts were just downright confusing. For starters, I do not accept the whole Michiru part at all. I’m not going to spoil but, unlike the Fuka-chan arc in Clannad, I wasn’t ok with it. However, it is a deep story. The plot is profound and original. It is slow-paced but does have random bits of humor to downplay the seriousness. It has much more drama than comedy but it isn’t too dark. Don’t expect a happily ever after but the ending isn't completely depressing either. I... See full review

Bleach: The Sealed Sword Frenzy

Jun 17, 2010

Story: This was very reminiscent of the bount arc in bleach to me. The illogical decisions that were made baffled me throughout this OVA which include: Renji using a human gun on a Baishin, the Soul Society's decision to send 5 captains and Soifon out to fight this guy, the captains decide to fight hollows while letting Rukia, Renji, and Ichigo battle Baishin, and then the explanations at the end. Those were just a few of parts that made me angry. However, there was lots of comedy including the special ending which I loved. So all of it wasn't a fail but a majority of it was. Animation... Story: An entertaining love story. School Rumble has to be the epitome of a romantic comedy. It truly is love and comedy. Their antics are hilarious and the way the show is split works perfectly. The ending was a little lackluster but it fit. Romance grows between the unexpected and not as much which the main lovebirds; however, that isn't a bad thing. The humor is really unexpected as well. Story: I do enjoy slice of life but it can become boring if not done well. Hanasaku was definitely done well. It was very realistic but had enough drama, romance, comedy and wit to keep you wanting more. The plot doesn't go at a snail pace but is well developed without feeling like too much at once. There is some unpredictability which keeps you guessing. There are a few filler-ish episodes which brings down the series a bit but only a by a bit. Story: I'm disappointed because I really liked the premise of this series. I thought it had promise but fell short. It felt a little all over the place. The individual stories were nice but they didn't seem to mesh and give a overall plot. There were also too many ideas that were introduced and not paned out well. If there's a sequel that makes up for the what the series was lacking then that will be good but otherwise, it falls short. However, it definitely does have unique ideas and does cause you to think. Lackluster girl surrounded by "dreamy" guys in love with her for little/illogical reasons. However, one major plus, this is so bad that it's funny. It's so bad that it's actually hilarious. It's hard not to laugh so it's not all for nothing.  Animation: Bishounens. That's the major appeal of this series. Story: This is one of the first series that I completely started anew with. Every week was the only new information I got about Blood-C. I finally understood what people mean when they say a series is slow. Waiting every week for something new to happen can be frustrating. That being said, Blood-C started of with a formula. Saya's journey to the cafe, school, and then the last couple of minutes was a fight with an Elder's Brain. The next couple of episodes felt the same with a little bit of information.
