Bunny Drop

Dec 13, 2011

Story: Never knew slice of life could be so realistic and beautiful. There is little overdramatic or surprising that happens throughout the series. It's simply about a man in his 30's getting a daughter who is 6. It's heart warming, and cozy feeling. Episodes just fly by without needing to much fluff or drama. It's just the both of them settling in with each other and slowly opening up. One of the most endearing relationships I have seen in an anime. You can't not be happy after watching an episode. Animation: I loved the style of the series. It's definitely different and has a watercolor look to it. I... See full review

Durarara!!

Sep 13, 2010

Plot: Durarara!! is one the more unique animes that I have seen. I haven’t seen an anime with the same feel as Durarara!!. At first it seem like there were a lot characters and a lot of things going on. However, as the episodes continued, I was able to see how these minor events connected together and how the city of Ikebukuro can be both big and small at the same time. I loved the first arc. There were some flaws with the slasher arc (or I just didn’t understand it). I also really enjoyed the ending. For the most part, things were well paced and I never got bored. Also, surprisingly... Tsubasa: Spring Thunder Chronicle

Aug 27, 2010

Story: Let me start off my telling you that you need to be caught up in the manga in order to understand what is going on. The story starts around the end of volume 21 to 23. However, they make a numerous amount of flashbacks of scenes from the manga that were not in the anime or Tokyo Revelations. The flashbacks did make sense with the storyline though I wish that the producers would have made another season with the events between Tokyo Revelations and Shunraiki. The story also alludes to scenest that are yet to come. Without reading the manga, you'll be lost. That being said, the plot delves in deeper... See full review

xxxHOLiC

Jan 27, 2010

Story: There is no such thing as coincidences. Only hitsuzen. I find myself saying that whenever I hear the word coincidence. That is how much xxxHolic's story sticks in my mind. I watched this a while ago and I still see hints of xxxHolic in my daily life. The way xxxHolic puts things in perspective is EXTRAORDINARY. It is incredibly profound and, when it's not being deep, it's being whimsical. Humor is not lost at all however. Relationships are complex and endearing. Also, a very fitting ending. I wished it wasn't over, and that's why there's xxxHolic Kei, but the ending was cohesive and felt final. For... See full review

Baccano!

Aug 15, 2011

Story: For a story that consisted of several parts and characters, it came together very well. All the pieces fit together that kept you guessing until the last moment. There weren't several loose ends (even shows with a few characters, one plot, and 20+ episodes can't pull this off) and left you wanting more only because the journey was so great that you want to do it all over again. Baccano! tells it's story with style and plenty of humour. I wasn't expecting to be laughing so much and enjoying the story as much as I did (I don't do well with complicated stories because I become confused easily). Baccano... See full review

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Aug 7, 2011

Story: I've mentioned this before but anime movies usually disappoint me. They like a really long filler episode. However, that did not apply to Vanishment of Haruhi Suzimaya. Imagine a really good arc of Haruhi Suzimaya. Ok, now translate that into a movie and that is what you get. You get the intricate story line, strange comedy, and unexpected twists. It had everything I loved from Haruhi Suzimaya. However, you will need to see both seasons in order to understand the movie (I had not seen season 2 and ended up being confused for a good portion). Haruhi Suzimaya lovers rejoice because this lives up to the... See full review

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

May 28, 2011

Story: I'm not usually a fan of mecha or political series. I'm especially not a fan of series involving stragies because I usually don't understand what's going on. For example, in Death Note, I need all of that explanation or I really would have no clue what was going on. However, Code Geass was a complete surprise. I incredibly enjoyed it. At first, I thought it was ok. However, as I continued the series, I became enthralled. I wanted to keep going. The pacing was excellent. It kept you going without feeling like you're being bombarded. There is not a single filler episode with all of the series. It is... See full review

Honey and Clover II

Dec 22, 2010

Story: It picks up where Honey and Clover left off. Unlike the first, this is more plot driven, although that's not a bad thing. However, there is noticably a lot more drama. There is still a lot of comedy but not as much. That's a given knowing that this season is much shorter and had to tie up a lot of loose endings. It has the same feel of the first season but with more drama. The ending was bittersweet and understandable. Not predictable but it made a lot of sense. Although I didn't like some of the decisions, there were the best ones that the characters could make. It left me feeling sad and happy at... See full review

Honey and Clover

Dec 19, 2010

Story: Usually I'm not the one to like slow paced series but Honey and Clover never felt slow to me. It felt well paced and well developed. The series is very character driven but that's not a bad thing. The timing is quite realistic without things feeling too rushed or happening too quickly. There is no climax but the series doesn't really lend itself to that. It feels very real without being dark. It has a light feel to it but it also has serious moments. It blends romance, drama and comedy beautifully. There were ridiciously cute moments, very sad moments and also laugh out loud (nothing short of... See full review

Hetalia: Axis Powers

Aug 10, 2010

Story: I hate history. It's my least favorite subject but I just find it incredibly boring. However, Hetalia made me want to go look up WW1 and WW1 and everything in between just so that I could understand all the references. That's really saying something. It was hilarious and the skits were just priceless. It was offensive but funny at the same time. I loved the relationships and chibitalia is just the cutest thing on the face of anime. I also don't like shoenen-ai at all but I found the hinted romance within the show just endearing. I am really sad that I don't understand the references but that's one of... See full review

Clannad

Aug 2, 2010

Story: To start this off, I have not seen Kanon so I can't make comparisons or references to it. That being said, I really loved Clannad. It had so many elements that were all done incredibly well. The heartwarming scenes and hilarious scenes achieved just that. I was a little confused with the robot and the girl though. It seemed like it played a huge part in the show but I didn't understand why. I also didn't really accept the whole Fuka-chan part. Those were my only two issues with the series. I loved it otherwise and it has an appeal for a wide range of people. It left you with a great feeling... See full review

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

Jan 26, 2010

Story: The story is a little confusing to me and doesn't quite get as explained as I would like. I don't think they should just leave the manga to do all the explaining. That being said, the plot was deeply engaging. I wanted to keep finding out the gang's adventures. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy and was actually not going to watch Tsubasa. However, I heard that it fits well with xxxHolic (which I love) so I gave this a chance. It truly impressed me and I love the plot. The tragedy that is the relationship between Sakura and Syaoran is heart wrenching but engaging. I really felt for what was... See full review

Lovely Complex

Nov 20, 2010

Plot: Tall girl with short guy. Sounds crazy right but it's so endearing in many ways. Back in my shallower days, I didn't really want to watch Lovely Complex because I wasn't too enthusitatic about the whole tall girlxshort guy. However, I watched it and I loved it. It has an amazing mesh between romance and comedy which it supplies plently of both. Also, the realistic quality to Lovely Complex really adds so much to this series that really sets it apart. The people are so relatable with their situations. They gradually fall in love instead of just shallow relationships. You're constantly reminded why they... See full review

May 29, 2012

Story: I do enjoy slice of life but it can become boring if not done well. Hanasaku was definitely done well. It was very realistic but had enough drama, romance, comedy and wit to keep you wanting more. The plot doesn't go at a snail pace but is well developed without feeling like too much at once. There is some unpredictability which keeps you guessing. There are a few filler-ish episodes which brings down the series a bit but only a by a bit. It's definitely suitable for a wide range of audience without being too much in one extreme. Overall, it's a refreshing series that has plently to... See full review

One Piece Movie 10: Strong World

Aug 6, 2011

Story: Usually movies based on an anime series tend to subpar and mediocre. It's like a long filler episode. However, that's not the case here and I was suprised. The movie was like a short One Piece arc that had all the elements that One Piece usually has. If you're a One Piece fan, then you'll be happily surprised. If you're not a One Piece fan, go watch and/or read it, then watch this and be happily surprised. Animation: It's similar to the series animation expect the quality up a little  higher. I already adore One Piece's animation so this is a great feast for your eyes. Also, I love the... See full review

Samurai Champloo

Aug 4, 2011

Story: The plot is generally about a threesome traveling together in order to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers. Throughout their journey, they have several encounters ranging from normal events in their time period to the strangely bizarre. For the most part, the series is episodic with a few flashbacks and one main plot. Although the idea of friends traveling together on a journey may not be new, Samurai Champloo definitely does it with style. It adds all these strange elements that surprisingly work. The pacing is terrific. Usually I wouldn't want to marathon an episodic series but I would not have... See full review

Jul 30, 2011

Story: It's difficult to describe what mushi (what this series revolves around) is but the series itself isn't diffcult to understand. It does have deep and profound ideas but it's simple. Although the series is episodic and slow-paced, it doesn't stop being interesting. The episode doesn't get boring which is surprising. However, I wouldn't call this series entertaining. It will probably capture your interest and it rightfully should. It also makes you think deeply but I don't have much of a desire to rewatch the series. K-On!

May 28, 2011

Story: Music and cute girls. It's very hard to go wrong with that. The series itself was very light and full of fun. Although the series did have a few serious moments, the warm feeling never disappears. Nothing extraordinary or dramatic happens but that's not to be expected. What was unexpected was how humorous and enjoyable this series became. For a slice of life series, I didn't expect it to be so enticing and funny. Usually, slice of life is just a series I watch one episode of for some change of pace. K-on wasn't quite that. It was something I wanted to watch more and more of. The story moves fluidly... Nana

Feb 28, 2011

*I wrote this once and when I hit submit, my internet failed. So I'm writing again so it's probably not as in depth as the first one. Story: I was excited to watch Nana because I loved and was addicted to the manga. The anime did not disappoint except for the ending. It's hard to find an ending for Nana because it stayed so true to the manga and the manga isn't over. There isn't even really a place to end it so the anime ending came pretty close to finding some type of closure although there is much left to wonder. However, I'm glad they didn't just make up an ending. The series itself is mainly about... See full review

Squid Girl

Jan 2, 2011

Story: A squid girl attempts to invade the world but ends up working at a beach store. That should already tell you that there really isn't any deep plot. The episodes consist of about two to three segments of the various antics surrounding squid girl. There is little deapth but I wasn't expecting anything too profound. The segments never feel too long and are full of cuteness and sillyness. It's just a bundle of fun. There is some attempt of seriousness at the end but it becomes resolved quickly with a cute message about being yourself. It kept me laughing from the first episode to the last. If you're... School Rumble: 2nd Semester

Dec 7, 2010

Story: It starts off where School Rumble ended. I am going to warn you that you don't really get too much progress with either of the main relationships but I wasn't really expecting it. There is some development but not enough to make real drama which isn't really what School Rumble is about. It is about some romance but twice as much random comedy. You will laugh your ass off because School Rumble really does deliver. There is some plot but most of the time it's just random which is what it's going for. For Bleach fans, this OVA definitely made up for the episodes in the anime. The anime completely ruined the whole Grand Fischer vs. Ichigo thing. The OVA is basically like Bleach without the filler. For non-Bleach fans, I wouldn't recommend it b/c the background and storyline would be confusing.

School Rumble

Jan 26, 2010

Story: An entertaining love story. School Rumble has to be the epitome of a romantic comedy. It truly is love and comedy. Their antics are hilarious and the way the show is split works perfectly. The ending was a little lackluster but it fit. Romance grows between the unexpected and not as much which the main lovebirds; however, that isn't a bad thing. The humor is really unexpected as well. Random things pop out that just crack you up. Skip Beat!

Jan 23, 2010

Story: I loved the story except for the ending. Be warned, the ending is awful. It is not satisfying and, at the very least, feels more like the conclusion for the last episode instead of the series as a whole. There are many loose ends and so much left open ended. However, that was my only issue. The plot is engaging and fun. The drama and humor was placed in the right place and in right quantities. Good romance as well. The dialog is hilarious at times and so are the other little quirks.Animation: I was not a fan of the male character designs in general such as Ren, Shotaro, and Ren's manager... See full review

Jan 14, 2010

Story: Soul Eater lacks the most in the story portion. Not to say that it is not good, but the conclusion of the most of the conflicts end anticlimactically. They build up an epic battle only to end the viewer feeling disappointing. However, that is one of the only few flaws I found in this anime (even though that is a pretty big one). I would definitely recommend this to someone who likes action, humor, even drama. I found myself hooked after the first episode and wanting more. Story: I had little idea about the this series was about before I started so I was basically like a blank state. Immediately from episode 1, I was hooked. The concept was intriguing and exciting. It leaves you guessing and does eventually explain things to you but gives you hints to figure it for yourself. The pacing was steady without being too fast or slow. Story: Gosick is basically a decetive series with both a Victorian and school setting. The mysteries usually seem paranormal at first but the truth is revealed otherwise. While the mysteries themselves usually last an episode or two, there is a greater plot which bits are told through each mysteries. It is slow paced for the most part but that isn't a bad thing. The ending was definitely the most exciting mystery and the ending was much more face paced than the rest of the series. It was kind of like an adrenaline rush with a very fitting ending. It got me instantly hooked with an intriguing background, food, comedy, drama and did I mention food. I has humor which is light but still funny. Story: I don't particularly like mecha but I decided to try this because of all the good things I hear about it. I was surprised. The first half was exciting and full of drama, action and comedy. It had some soul to it and real spirit. However, the second half felt too complex and confusing. They tried to put way too many logic suspending concepts into one without too much explanation. You just had to go: "Ok, that didn't make any sense but ok". I know a lot of anime doesn't need to make logical sense but you're left in a state of bewilderment. Jan 6, 2011

*I just typed this entire review when my computer decided to take me to the previous page and I lost it all. This is much as I can remember of what I typed* Plot: A dating sims otaku is forced by a demon into rounding up loose souls by getting real girls to fall in love with him. I love this concept and the series really does deliver in that aspect. There is humor and romance although the romance is short lived. The plot shows progressions through as the female becomes increasingly more complex. There are two filler episodes but they are very funny and cute so it's not a complete waste of time. However...
