ARGH! such a letdown!
after being emotionally torn apart by the series, I was expectant of the movie, to be perhaps not as good, but only slightly inferior in quality (due to time length restrictions and whatnot).
This movie however, even dropped below the standard I would have for a movie I haven't seen.
If you watched the movie first, then I doubt it would have gripped you enough to make you want to watch the series.
List of things that were bad:
1. Art - The artwork has changed (granted, they don't look extremely different, but I noticed) and occasionally I was taken aback just looking at it.
There were too much effects such as floating flowers and doves fluttering that (I felt) detracted from the movie
2. Voice Actors - They really should have kept the voice actors from the series, especially Sunohara, who's eccentric highpitched squeals were uber-toned down.
3. Changes in Characters - Granted, to fit in the drama club section, a teacher was conviently on hand, but Tomoyo is supposed to be the violent one! I really wanted to see more of her kick-sunohara-combos, but I was yet again disappointed. :(
Staying on the subject of Sunohara, like his voice, his character was toned down also. The only slightly perverted thing he did in the movie was reading some Xrated mags.
Also, Nagisa's parent's were made to be super-lovey-dovey. While they were clearly in love in the series, they didn't fawn over each other at each moment (also, no "I love your bread" scenes :( )
Instead of the robot side-story, we have a clown-story, which, granted, I would have been fine with, but the connection was too obvious, and used both too much and too little in various scenes. (not too ragey about that point)
The main problem with the story, is that it's all muddled up. In particular post-play scenes. There is a constant back and forth between the nagisa event and one month afterwards. If I hadn't been clued into the story beforehand, there's the possibility that could have lost me.
The Ending was bad. There were many other areas in the series where they could have cut it off and have had a better ending.
The Buildup. The Suspense. There was none. Something happened, the next thing happened. While the series had sometimes brought me to tears, the movie provoked no emotions out of me whatsoever, Everything was too rushed, and it seemed i was watching a series of events, rather than a story (if that makes sense)
Cutting out characters. If you were going to cut out so many characters, why not cut out Kyou, she had no impact on the movie's story whatsoever.
TL;DR: Very Disappointing. watch the series instead.
