Yona of the Dawn

Oct 25, 2022

This is an amazing anime, and did a great job...for a first season.  Sadly, as of writing this review, the anime is about eight years old (and the manga being 13 and still unfinished) which means that at least for the anime, it's very unlikely we'll see a second season to conclude the story. -- Story Yona, the princess of Kouka, is betrayed by someone she trusted the night of her 16th birthday.  With the entire castle seemingly out to get her, her loyal friend (Hak) manages to guide her to safety in order to escape the usurpers who came for the throne. Upon meeting with a priest, they... See full review

Youkai Watch

A really bad rendition of Natsume Yuujinchou meets Pokemon?  I'll be honest...The only reason I watch this (and am currently watching season two) is because of Komasan (and Komajiro). Also, since I'm being honest, I really don't like what the dub did to a lot of the catch phrases (such as Komasan).  In the original version, he says "monge", and ends his sentences with "-zura" (along with Komajiro); he also sounds cute and innocent.  The dub, however, made him sound like someone from the southern USA rather than the countryside of Japan, and redid his catch phrase to... Yowamushi Pedal

Now that the series is "complete", I can go with a final review of it.  I did wind up dropping a few points from the overall score, mostly because I wouldn't call this series "completed" even though its status (for the first season) is "complete". Now, I usually don't pick up anime with such "thin" character designs (almost all of the characters have very narrow faces, which aesthetically puts me off more often than not), but that's personal preference.  I docked points in animation for a different reason, which I'll get into later. Story This actually... See full review

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX

Let's start with the beginning...the opening and ending songs (Japanese version) were great the entire way through from what I can remember.  Even the first English dub opening is appropriate for the series and catchy, and is actually better than the dubbing job, itself.  I suggest, if you can, to watch it subbed; subtract 1-2 points from Overall and about 10 points from Sound for the English dub version, because it's that awful. If your favorite character turns out to be Judai (Jaden), increase the Overall rating by 2-3 points; the show is extremely Judai-centric.  If your favorite... See full review
