Tomodachi Game

Aug 28, 2022

Warning:  This anime is incomplete despite its "completed" status.  I don't know what is the matter with anime studios the past few years, but for some reason most of them have gotten it into their heads to release a series in a format of making their viewers not only wait a week between episodes (which isn't strange in the slightest), but also stopping at episode 12 and either making viewers wait months before the final 12 episodes come out or just pausing without a word. So yes; this anime is 100% incomplete.  All you'll learn of is the basic plot and a few names in these 12... See full review

Digimon Ghost Game

Aug 21, 2022

Important!  As of now, the anime has not completed its run and is only 38 episodes in.  I am only writing a review right now because this series seems to be more of a "monster of the week" anime.
This anime also feels more like a giant advertisement for the Digimon Vital Bracelet (which is a great product, but still just wanted to mention that).  Just note that you can't actually control your digimon's battles on the bracelet if you like the anime enough to buy one (I've never done a versus with someone else, but AI battles are heavily RNG based). --- Story In... The Seven Deadly Sins Movie 2: Cursed by Light

Oct 23, 2021

Fairly slow paced for a movie, yet still manages to fit into the timeline without disturbing any of the events…which is more than the DBZ movies can claim. That said, you’ll want to have caught up on the NnT anime (including all 24 episodes of the final season) or the manga to avoid some mentioned spoilers from the movie itself. -- Story It’s been about half a year since the Demon King was defeated, and everyone is moving on with their lives: Diane and King are preparing (and having) their wedding (with Ban, Elaine, and Gowther in attendance), Meliodas and Elizabeth are... Ace Attorney

Oct 6, 2021

The prosecution is ready to present its case for the review of the Ace Attorney anime! ...though actually, things focus on the defense side of things in both the anime and the games.  A slight warning I'd give to folks is that, since the anime covers cases (sans "Rise from the Ashes") in the first two games ("Ace Attorney" and "Justice for All"), there will be heavy spoilers. So if you plan on playing the games and want to figure things out for yourself instead of having the major points spoiled, you might want to put this anime on the backburner until you finish those... The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Oct 1, 2021

Absolute garbage, compounded by the fact that the "final episode" is in the middle of the worst arc:  The Infinite Eight.  Sorry not sorry, but there is zero excuse to stop a season in the middle.  The series is actually 28 episodes long, but was divided up into two 14-episode cours for some reason...and honestly, after barely making it through this one, I have zero incentive to check out the second cour. If you've got time to kill or like moe, this anime might be for you.  If you want something with good characters, a good plot, and just overall interesting...mayhaps you... See full review

Tamako Market

Sep 29, 2021

This anime is a slice-of-life comedy, and it does its job extremely well.  If you're looking for a light-hearted series which doesn't use "clickbait" methods (aka, cliffhangers at the end of each episode), then this is the one. Fans of K-on! will also enjoy it; it's made by the same studio (which is noticable from the first part of the animation). -- Story There honestly isn't really much of a story as it's not only slice-of-life which changes the theme of each episode each time there's a new one (with only the final couple episodes containing a sort of "to be... Ghost Hound

Sep 28, 2021

It's not often I get to sit down and write a review shortly after watching an anime; if I was able to do so every time, I'd have pages and pages of reviews.  Plenty to get around to, but here I am writing a review of Ghost Hound which I just finished watching. The anime is, well...out of this world in many senses of the meaning.  Frankly, it's out of this world just how long it took them to answer the questions brought up in the first couple episodes...or not answer them depending on what question is being asked. Let me be honest:  What's going to get you to watch, and keep watching it, is... See full review

The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement

Jul 5, 2021

Hoo-boy...where do I even begin with this train wreck of a final season? To be fair to this season, it's just the conclusion of the train wreck which spanned from about season three onward.  I didn't review past season 2 because...well, I'd read the manga and I was not going to watch the anime version of it unless I got paid.  Since I'm not getting paid, I'm not going to watch it. The finale, however, I figured I would watch since there were a couple of scenes I really wanted to see animated. And that's not even counting the fact that only the first 12 episodes (of the 24 episode final season)... See full review

Angel Beats!

Apr 11, 2021

For anyone wondering, limbo is apparently a Japanese high school. ...at least, that's the world of Angel Beats! for teenagers who had regrets when they died. - Story Otonashi wakes up to find himself sprawled out on the pavement between a school building and a girl with a rather bulky sniper rifle of sorts.  In her sights is a single girl, whom she claims is an "Angel" and thus...the enemy. Though Otonashi refuses to get involved with her level of crazy, he soon confronts Angel and finds out that, yes, they're all dead (and thus, can't die).  Roped into joining the Afterlife... Dr. Ramune Mysterious Disease Specialist

Apr 9, 2021

Body parts turning into random foods?  Move over, Bugsnax! - Story The episodes are broken down into "case of the day" stories.  The first couple are only an episode in length, while the latter half of the series entertains two-part stories.  The overall theme is the same: Between strange little mischevious youkai and human stress, the issue stressing the person out often turns into a very strange mutation of a body part.  Since normal doctors can't deal with it, follow the unusual Ramune (and his assistant, Kuro) as they solve and heal patients afflicted with the... Skateboarding is cool and exciting enough...so how does one make it even more exciting? They add laser pointers, firecrackers, brawling, and physics-defying moves of course!  Actually, let's just make it Mario Kart on skateboards! Someone finally made an anime about skateboarding, but don't expect it to be sports-oriented like all those other sports anime out there.  This is a shounen anime with skateboarding, not a sports anime. I was a little annoyed at how difficult it was to watch this anime (darn those Netflix-exclusives), but it was worth the re-sub.  Let's just dive straight in, shall we? -- Story A Robin Hood-like group, only they con the rich and give to themselves.  Makoto Edamura prides himself as being the greatest con-man in Japan, but when a mysterious stranger pulls one over on him, he finds himself forced to flee to L.A where he gets mixed up with the same man who conned him in the first place as he is dragged into an even bigger world of the art of conning involving the mafia and drugs. Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation

Jun 25, 2020

After taking a small break from the supernatural genre, I resumed my search for good supernatural anime (but ones which weren't too gruesome or gory). Though this does have a little bit of an "eww" factor at times, it's still at a managable level as the animation doesn't show things like the ripped off faces of victims (thank goodness). However, while the anime isn't bad, I can't say it's that great, either.  There are rumors that the manga got axed, so who knows what will become of the upcoming second season of this. -- Story In modern-day Japan, there is a detective agency... My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Jun 21, 2020

Let's face it:  Isekai anime are all over the place and are incredibly popular (even given how much of it there is).  "Truck-kun" is even a well known meme since the majority of isekai anime invovles a traffic accident sending the protagonist to the other world (typically a truck). This one is no different in that aspect in that Truck-kun took yet another victim.  Only this time, the anime, manga, and game obsessed protagonist found out that she was actually reincarnated as the villain of her favorite otome love game (visual romance novel game). -- Story As the villain of... Case File nº221: Kabukicho

Apr 10, 2020

The first half of the show was absolutely amazing and felt like it did everything right...then the second cour came in and started to tell a different narrative as if it had been handed off to a new set of writers.  What could have been an interesting and unique take on Sherlock Holmes became an echo of the BBC series. Plot/Story I'm going to break this into the two arcs because it's not fair to the first arc to lump it all together. Arc 1 (episodes 1-12) featured Doctor John Watson as he gets past the wall dividing the upper class West side to the lower class/chaotic East side in search of... See full review

Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun

Mar 16, 2020

When I first saw the description of this anime (and that it was a comedy), I immediately said:  "Oh, great...another isekai comedy anime." After some other anime these past couple seasons started to go downhill, I finally gave up and clicked on this out of sheer boredom. To my surprise, I not only enjoyed it but looked forward to watching it every week; I even went and read the manga (yes, even going so far as to attempt to read the raw Japanese version since only about 84 chapters are translated as of this time) once the anime ended. -- Plot If someone took Hayate the Combat... Detective Conan Movie 23: The Fist of Blue Sapphire

Feb 9, 2020

If there's something just as clockwork as time and taxes, it's a yearly Detective Conan movie.  This one was the 2019 movie (as they air during Golden Week in Japan, which is April, and then typically manage to get to other countries around October of that year.  The past few movies have taken even longer to reach foreign shores). While I certainly don't regret watching it, especially as a fan of the Kaito Kid-Conan Edogawa team up, there are at least two movies which does this concept better justice (movies 10 and 14). And if you take Kaito Kid out of this movie, the story alone (and even the... See full review

Great Teacher Onizuka

Feb 9, 2020

This is the story of a perverted, delinquent teacher as he is forced to deal with a couple of 14-year-old psychopaths. No, seriously; that's basically what it boils down to.  The series was really good to start with, but then it felt like it jumped between "psycho girl of the week" and "really weird final arc with a dozen or so plotholes in it", plus filler episodes in the middle of some of the bigger arcs and one teacher whose brief "arc" was never even completed. Not that it isn't a good series, but it really goes off the rails (that, and the show always seems to need... See full review

Major 2nd

Jan 23, 2020

Another "next gen" anime.  To be honest, I probably would have enjoyed this more if it revolved around Izumi Shigeno instead of Daigo.  In the short amount of times she comes on screen, she already has a much more interesting personality. That, or if it was actually about Hikaru and Daigo learning to become a battery.  For all the summary (and intro song) boasts, it takes what feels like forever for them to become a battery...and they only form as one for official games a couple times. Now that said, if you're familiar at all with the "formula" of Major, then you can... See full review

Kids on the Slope

Jan 21, 2020

If you came here like I did for a music anime, this is not it.  Yes, it has music in it, but mostly just as a way to connect the protagonists as it takes a backseat to the Romance genre.  I don't usually get involved in romance anime, but by the time I realized that Romance/Drama were the primary genres (with music taking the back seat), I was too curious about what would happen next to stop. -- Story The majority of the story is a weird love polygon, though certainly not as weird as something such as Ranma 1/2.  Sure, it starts out nice and simple with a setting in 1966: ... I absolutley loved this anime...and its ability to make me cry every couple episodes with just the feelings and emotions within it.  I'd also recommend this anime to pretty much everyone. That's not to say it doesn't have shortcomings, and I'll unfortunately have to go into spoiler territory to touch upon the parts I felt were contrived and even a little annoying, but the rest of the review will be spoiler-free. Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Jan 10, 2020

I know you're here to find out more about the anime, but to be honest...you'll get the most out of this anime if you know absolutely nothing going into it. So, my suggestion is to stop reading and go watch the anime if you like dark magical girl anime or are just curious. If you go into this knowing anything about it aside from the tags and summary, you'll probably be disappointed. Like I was. Plot The plot leaves much to be desired, as the overall arching plot includes incorrect science (as in, it's literally an impossible premise).  For the majority of the anime, the story is more of just Homura... Ghost Hunt

Jan 5, 2020

This is certainly a good series, but it leaves much to be desired.  I had to supplement it with reading the Wiki because sadly, the characters remain underdeveloped and little to nothing is explained about any of them (such as their pasts).  This holds especially true for one of the protagonists. The more I looked back on the anime to write this review, the more I realized just how "incomplete" this anime feels. Psychic Detective Yakumo

Mediocre. If I had to describe this anime in a single word, that would be it. There are also many glaring issues and plot problems which legit had me muttering at the screen for how stupid everyone was and "why didn't the police do such-and-such".  I trudged through it for answers, but I feel like though this anime had potential, it's honestly just a waste of time. This anime in a nutshell:  This is the result of what happens when a psychopath and a sociopath get bored and seek thrills with each other. ...as well as all the lives they destroy (sometimes literally) along the way. It's not the worst anime I've seen, but it's far from being the best, either.  It did have potential, but there was no commitment into said potential. For such a high-rated movie in Japan, this was not easy to find in the USA.  As it is a beautiful and heartfelt anime, I don't know why it never made it outside of Japan (with the exception of watching it online). I don't claim to have the best knowledge of the Japanese language, but I knew enough to understand most of what was going on in the movie.  Otherwise, I wouldn't even attempt to review it.
