Hourou Musuko

Sep 10, 2022

A peculiar yet interesting anime with a very slow pace, yet even in 11 episodes manages to deal with body/gender dysphoria very well...once you can tell who is who that is.  If LGBTQ+ themes are not your cup of tea, then you should probably take a pass on this.  If you do enjoy that sort of thing, or perhaps are a little curious yourself, this is a fairly good anime to watch. -- Story There are multiple stories going on due to each character having their own "secrets" to deal with.  Two of the characters, Shuichi and Yoshino, constantly deal with gender dysphoria; Shuichi... Holmes of Kyoto

May 3, 2019

Heavier on the (light hearted) slice of life aspect than any other sub-genre, it takes a couple episodes to get into, but once you get past the second episode it starts to pick up a little; it really starts to pick up at around episode 5.  At first, the protagonist, "Holmes", feels fairly flat and just "matter of fact".  However, it does get better as later episodes reveal different facets of his personality. That said, it's still a fairly slow paced anime which almost has a Miss Marple feel to it in that the cases which comes to the protagonist are typically discussed while... See full review

Normally, I break anime down into story, plot, and overall (occasionally touching on sound and animation if there's something sensational or terrible about it). This anime...don't.  Just don't.  Don't waste your time with it.  I want the time I spent on this back from my life...and I don't usually say things like that at the start of a review, even for a really crappy anime. The plot was nonexistant.  There was a possibility of one at the beginning with the "protagonist" being saved from living as a sort of dog for a gang, but wasn't elaborated on soon enough.  The first... Hamatora

Jun 5, 2014

If you don't like bloody anime, Hamatora is not for you.  Personally, I can stand blood up to a certain point in anime, as it is needed in the immersion factor if there are a lot of fight scenes.  Excessive amounts, however, I can't stand. I didn't have a WARNING when I looked the anime up after seeing a summary of it, but that doesn't mean I can't warn other people that this anime DOES contain a LOT of graphic violence, and in later episodes, a LOT of bloody scenes. So, warnings aside, let's get down to it.  For a 12 episode anime, it wasn't too bad. Story Well...the story is hard to... See full review
