I watched the movie King of Thorn today and it was kind of disappointing. I guess that that's mainly because I have read most of the manga (I have read over 5 chapters but I was too lazy to go look where I stopped reading but when I checked Wikipedia I realized I was nearly at the end oops I should just have finished it). The movie and the manga are quite different, in sense that the manga goes more into depth of the characters, there's more events that build the characters (for example, Auntie was practically a flat character in the movie, while she was a rather smoothly round one in the manga. There'd been far less time devoted to her in the movie). But it must have been neccesairy, seeing as how, well, you have to fit everything in about two hours of animation.
And the movie built up fairly well, but after the rising action things became a little bit more dissapointing. Everything had to be explained in a short amount of time, rushing through a fairly complex ending in a few minutes. The cause and effects of Medusa, the apocalyptic disease affecting the characters, is not explained thoroughly enough in the movie, making the whole ending a bit vague. And anticlimaxing.
Also a lot of interesting characters were missing that were in the manga. In the movie Alice was hardly a character at all, just being shown a corpse for a moment, while in the manga she takes on an explaining and guiding role.
And maybe the Sleeping Beauty references were just a bit too much, too.
The music and animation were fairly decent though, and although the movie is a let-down if you read the manga, it still isn't a bad movie.
Other than that I made my mom watch Cat Soup and I watched shitty incestous animus while I was at my dad's because that seemed like the appropriate thing to do and I am a horrible person.
