about me

Hi all, I am an anime lover from Trinidad and Tobago, a small pair of islands just off the coast of Venezuela but because Spain had other things to do we ended up a British Colony before asking nicely for independence. So English is the native language here.

I came to anime a few years ago when I ran out of interesting cartoons to watch. Live action TV was already a wasteland for me and Movies hit a real creative deadzone around that time. I have always been fascinated by fairytales and folklore from different countries and I had a love of animation and Science Fiction so Anime was a natural thing to try. I have been hooked ever since.

It is probably a bad idea for anyone to use my anime list as a guide to finding good shows. I rate my shows very differently to the average anime fan. When I evaluate anime I do it by evaluating four main areas and appending my enjoyment level.

The four areas in order of importance are..

1. Storytelling

Do these people know how to tell a good story? Does their style and method make for a good show?

2. Characters

I love fun, interesting characters I can care about or identify with. They don't need to be original and I don't even have to like them as long as I care what they are about and what happens to them.

3. Plot

I like a good plot. It doesn't have to be amazing or original as long as it works for the story and highlights the characters and their world.

4. The setting or world.

I like worlds that are full of opportunity and potential. Places where any number of interesting stories can take place.

To those I add my personal enjoyment level and get a rating. You will notice that nowhere in there is creativity or originality or animation quality or great action. I don't even need the show to make sense. These things are nice but they do not really affect my enjoyment of a show. If a show fails in storytelling or creating characters that interest me I will probably drop it or rate it on the low side. There are exceptions though where a compelling plot or a fascinating world made for an enjoyable ride.

So there you go.

oh no worries Lester, I dropped it. I had just got done with another anime similar, and this one's character designs (which suck) and pace were too similar.

I did not enjoy the characters much.  but after reading a bit of your text, I am wondering if I should give it another chance. Sounds as if it might have much more story to it.

Aw man, is Kyousougiga really that bad? I can't say I'm surprised, but I was kind of hoping for something good, given the promo video looked neat and it has a lot of the same staff as Heartcatch Precure...

Looks as if you have the same love for some of the characters I did in ironcily named Fantastic Children.

Lester, I am about to tackle the Banner/Crest of the Stars series. What is my best approach at watching it? Is it better to just follow from crest, then Banner?

Or is there any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Funk.
