IF YOU LIKED...

Kino's Journey

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Haibane Renmei

Both Haibane Renmei and Kino no Tabi share a similar narrative style, both making good use of silence. They also are in some sense about self-discovery and consist of an inner journey externalized.

Azumanga Daioh

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Haré+Guu

Both Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu and Azumanga Diaoh are hallmarked by a type of random craziness and comedy that makes them totally unexpected.

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell and Akira dive you into a cyberpunk dystopia where the political structure is wildly different from today and technology has totally transformed people's lives.

Paranoia Agent

Lain and Paranoia Agent both have themes that run much deeper than is expected of in most anime, that while not the same I feel are in ways convergent, both in how they convey them and in their message.

RahXephon

Rahxephon and Eva both maintain a similar plot and where one contains an overabundance of Juddaic mythology the other replaces it with Sumerian.

Both GITS:SAC and Jin-Roh let their cyberpunk roots hang out with both considering technology's effect on society and government. While Jin-Roh has a decidely more somber tone they both can at times be very grim.

IF YOU LIKED...

Haibane Renmei

Lain and Haibane deal with different issues but central to both are the ideas of states of humanity and redemption, although I feel they come to different conclusions if you enjoy one I think you may well enjoy the other.
