Akikan!

Mar 22, 2010

"Daichi Kakeru is an openly perverted sixteen-year-old boy who has never had a girlfriend. One night, after a refreshing shower, Kakeru decides to have a drink and opens up a can of melon soda; but his first sip turns into his first kiss as the can suddenly transforms into a cute girl! After his initial hesitance to acknowledge her existence, Kakeru - as her new owner - names the girl Melon and allows her to stay. Melon, as it turns out, is part of a government project in which aluminium and steel 'Akikans' fight each other to determine which is the superior type of can. Completely against the... Bakuman.

Nov 2, 2010

I have always thought it was ludicrous to review an anime when the series isn't even half way through. I'm writing this after marathoning the first 5 episodes after only planning on watching the first to fall asleep too. Its now almost 4 in the morning and I'm still not sleeping due to sheer excitement. I have not been this excited about an anime series after only watching the first few episodes....well, ever. As its only 5 episodes in, I promise I will go back and finish this review. I just want to let everyone know that if your not watching this, your missing out on something truly special. Even if the... See full review

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Apr 25, 2020

This anime has the same plot as the other 100 animes that have come out in the last few years about dimension jumping heroes. These cookie cutter shows are typically bad... but the fun kind of waste-some-time bad. This show is bad... just bad. I thought the twist of the overly cautious main hero might make for an interesting twist. Turns out, there is a reason why most of these shows start with weak heroes that become strong. The progression is fun to watch. This show... spent the first three episodes split between the hero "training" (AKA doing pushups) and the mandatory ecchi fueled... See full review

Chivalry of a Failed Knight

Mar 31, 2019

You'll find a certain consistency in the reviews for this show. You have wierd 10s, likely from young ones just getting their feet wet in anime that still have rose colored glasses. Then you have the veterans giving it 5-7s, describing this as very generic rippoff of things that have come before. If you want a real feel for the show, read some of later reviews... which I guess makes my review come off as lazy. Its watchable and mildly entertaining if you know its bad going in and just want to kill some time. However, if your looking for good anime, move along.

Fairy Tail

Aug 26, 2010

In a nutshell This review is up to the 30's in episodes. As of the 60's, the anime has just become stronger, and the story arcs have become much more interesting. I have noticed a slight increase in fan service, but its not rediculous as compared to other animes. Its more of a "little extra" rather then a main element. I've also noticed that the switch between funny and serious happens more frequently with many little jokes and hilarious antics spread throughout even the most serious episodes keeping the whole anime light and fluffy. Also, if your looking for some romance, Fairy Tail is sorely... See full review

Food Wars! The Fourth Plate

Nov 30, 2019

I'm actually disappointed in where this show has gone this season. It has become too formulic and the fun overdramatizing of food and cooking that was fun the first few seasons has overstayed its welcome. The long, drawn out "food battles" have completely replaced any actual resemblence of plot or interesting interaction between characters. This issue began towards the end of last season, and has only gotten worse. I was completely bored by Fourth Plate, episode 3, and powered through it only for the sake of the first two seasons. What a waste of a good anime. If I was a... See full review

Highschool of the Dead

Aug 16, 2010

I've been out of the review game for a while. Real life has gotten in the way. So bare with me, and sorry now for poor writing. In a Nut Shell.... Have you ever wondered what an anime version of Resident Evil would look like? Well look no further. Go watch High School of the Dead! First off, if you are going to watch this anime, and you want to enjoy it as much as I have, you need to be able to turn off your rational thinking cognitive rationalizing brain. This is very important because if you don't have the intention of watching it for the straight fun factor, find another series as there basically is... See full review

Infinite Stratos

Mar 14, 2011

This is the type of shit that gives harem animes a bad reputation. The first episode was mildly interesting, but I was staring blankly at my computer screen by the third. This harem is so stereotypical and poorly scripted that I thought it was a parody. It would have been decent with some tweaking to make it a parody. Instead, I'm left in disbelief on how little is accomplished. Story: 2 Infinite Statos is supposed to be about a boy who is the only male who can power some special mecha. All other operators are females, and suprise, suprise he goes to an all girls school to train in these mechas. Let the... See full review

Kimi ni Todoke - From Me To You Season 2

Mar 11, 2011

As many animes that are abstract and artzy, it is frustratingly hard to put into words the flood of emotions that a viewer experiences. I'll give it my best: Story: Heart-warming is the best way to describe the story. It takes things slow allowing the viewer to appreciate the smallest details and tender tale of youthful innocence. Some might argue that the slow pace drags Kimi ni Todoke out. However, I for one think that this is one of the things that make this anime so special and a delight to watch. A scene from Kimi can have so much symbolism and meaning behind every little movement and detail that... See full review

Nabari no Ou

Nov 8, 2010

Brief Review (might do a more detailed one later): Overview: As you might expect, the anime's basic premise sounds like any other "power-up" anime. However, this turns out to be far from the truth; but not necessarily in a good way... This anime is more about the relationships and forced drama between 5 or 6 characters. However, nothing is explained very well, and you suddenly have a main character who is basically in love with some phychopath killer for some poorly flushed out reason. I can't tell you why, because this anime is so unclear and vague. The Good: I guess this anime has some... See full review

Nobunaga Concerto

Apr 24, 2020

As a heads up, I use a more standardized distribution ranking scale. That is, I consider a "5" as distinctly average. Story: A very interesting period in Japan's history. While the time traveling premise might be overused, I did think the generally more serious tone and its attempts to try and portray life of the period was refreshing - a big difference from the tiresome amount of unnecessary ecchi in many of these animes. Animation: I can see how the animation could be polarizing. Some might find the very static style more "artistic" in nature and consider it a central component of... See full review

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza

Jan 1, 2010

"As Yuuto continues to keep Haruka’s otaku nature as much of a secret as possible, chaos continues to surround them. With Yuuto’s wild, drunken housemates gatecrashing their trip to a hot springs resort, and Haruka’s sister and maid team concocting various schemes to allow the pair to spend time together, nothing is ever straightforward. While Yuuto does all in his power to make Haruka happy, including working as butler for the tyrannical Touka and pulling an all-nighter to help her finish her first doujinshi, he is unsure as to how the school beauty feels about him. Nyan Koi!

Dec 24, 2009

Story: 5 The story revolves around Junpei Kōsaka, the male protagonist who is horribly allergic to cats, in a town that is basically obsessed with felines. He knocks down a cat deity statue, and as a result, becomes cursed to turn into a cat himself. The only way to stop the curse is to help 100 different cats with their problems. Throw in a bunch of hot anime chicks, and maybe a little magic to spice things up. Oh ya, did I mention he can talk to cats? Anyways, that pretty much sums up this whole anime. The story is by far its weakest point of this anime, but then again, it’s not really... See full review

Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World

May 8, 2020

I rate on a bell curve - a 5 out of 10 as "average" You'll realize very early on that this is not a typical hero in another world story. It's gritty, reasonably intelligence, and surreal -  to the point where it was hard to follow at times. At the beginning, it was a refreshing change from the exhausted formula. However, it got old by about the 10th episode. I have nicknamed the lead character "Sir ICryALot" because that is literally what 3/4 of the later episodes seem to feature endlessly. The story keeps hitting him with a baseball bat, and rather than having him overcome... See full review

Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi

Dec 22, 2009

Story: 5 "After learning martial arts in the mountains for 17 years under his father's teachings, Yoichi Karasuma's father orders Yoichi to learn martial arts with the Ikaruga family in the city, as he has nothing left to teach him. The current head of the Ukiha Divine Wind Style Swordplay school of martial arts, Ibuki Ikaruga and her siblings gradually accept Yoichi as a freeloader at their dojo. In addition to domestic problems, Yoichi deals with Washizu's jealousy of Ibuki and Yoichi's supposed relationship and his school life." That pretty much sums up the whole story. You have a... Utawarerumono

May 7, 2020

Please note that I base my scoring with a 5 out of 10 as Mediocre. As a result, a 4 means it was below average, but not terrible. Anyways.... This is one of those animes where it appears they only have a vague idea of where they wanted to take it. It starts out strong, but then it gets muddled into half-ass battles and "war strategies", crappy politicking, wierd potential love interests, etc. They then throw in the supernatural because why the hell not? The last 5 or 6 episodes in particular are tough to get through. The plot goes all over the place and their attempts to bring in surprise twists... See full review

Valkyria Chronicles

Dec 22, 2009

This is my first anime review I have ever written so bear with me on this one. First, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have never played the Valkyria Chronicles video game that this anime is based on, so don't expect this review to enlighten you on how the two compare. Story: 8 The story begins when the peaceful hometown of our protagonists Welkin Gunther and Alicia Melchiott is destroyed by the invading militaristic forces of the Imperial Alliance. The two protagonists decide, unbeknownst to the other, join the country's militia to fight back the invading army. Surprise, surprise, they... See full review

Zoids: Fuzors

Jan 2, 2010

I plan on writing a review for this anime in detail when I have some time. For now, I am being merciful by telling you not to touch this with a 10 foot pole. Seriously, don't even think about it. I like zoids as much as the next mecha lover, but this is just utter crap. Theres a reason why it was dropped in the U.S..I'm giving it a .5 just because I liked the other Zoid animes, and don't want a 0 to tarnish their reputation. If crap could crap, this would be that crap. You have been warned. Go enjoy the other zoid shows; there much better. I recommended starting with Chaotic Century.
