Well its been a while since I've posted to my blog and since I recently purchased a large number of series I felt the need to do an entry on my thoughts of what I'm currently watching and my thoughts on a few series that I recently finished. I also decided to repost this from my animeondvd blog with a few edits.
Currently Watching -
Lunar Legend Tsukihime [6/12] - I'm already half way through the series and I already like it well enough. While the pacing seems a bit slow even for twelve episodes I like it. The cast is relatively small which I like and its easy to keep track of everyone. Shiki is a likeable lead and I like his power. The animation and music is really well done and I also like the voice acting. However something about the story just doesnt compel me to watch more then a few episodes at a time. It might be because I've been really busy with school this semester, but either way I'd probably rate this series at the moment at a B-.
Pumpkin Scissors [9/24] - I've seen this compaired to Fullmetal Alchemist and I'd have to agree in regards to the military aspects and the character design. I like it so far and the characters are likeable. The mysteries are starting to get deeper and the next episode preview shows some promise with it showing the origins of why exactly they are called 'Pumpkin Scissors'. While some of the character speeches can get longwinded and boring, this series is a lot of fun and very likeable. I'm not sure how it will all turnout though and I'm not exactly sure what I'd rate it at the moment. It has kept me intrigued a bit more then Tsukihime however.
Ramen Fighter Miki [2/12] - I like the character design and the basic premise of the story. The comedy is over the top and is actually pretty funny most of the time. I also like how they split the episodes in half with two segments per episode. Overall I'm not a big comedy person, but this show has made me laugh and kept me entertained. Thats what anime is supposed to do. I can't rate this show yet either cause I've only seen the first two episodes and I've put this show on the backburner for now while I try and catch up with more longer running shows I'm watching.
Rozen Maiden traumend [2/12] - The sequal series to Rozen Maiden. I recently finished the first season and will comment on it later in this entry. So far this season is just as good as the first and I love the new villain Barasuishou. It's also nice to see Jun comming out of his shell more and to see that Shinku is still haunted by what happened to Suigintou at the end of season one. I can't wait to see what happens next and I'm sure I'll love this season as much as I did the first.
X Tv Series - [12/24 + OVA] - The series is really engaging, yet the pacing is somewhat slow. At this point not a whole lot of battles have occured and they are still introducing many of the various charcacters. The cast is fairly large but most of them are likeable. I don't understand the appeal of Kamui at this point though. While the flashbacks have given some insight into the person he used to be his current self is just a sullen asshole, who yes does have a burden on his shoulders, but does he have to be so annoying about it? Things are starting to pick back up again and I can't wait to finally see all of the Angels of Heaven and Earth in battle over the fate of the world. I like it well enough so far and it will probably become one of my favorites. I just wish there was more action, more information about some characters, and less of Kamui being an asshole. So far I'd rate this as a C+ or maybe even a B-.

Kurau Phantom Memory -[24/24] - This series drew me in from the beginning and never really lost my interest. Kurau and Christmas are an endearing pair of characters and I loved their relationship and I actually cared about what happened to them. The plot progression, animation, and character development were all outstanding. Not only were Kurau and Christmas great characters I loved the supporting characters and even some episodic characters were given some nice development. The story moved at a nice pace and I like most everything that happened. I even ended up crying a few times throughout. The character driven story as well as the action sequences were well done. My only minor complaint is that while I did like the opening theme it took awhile to grow on me as did some of the background music. I also felt a little put of by the ending as it didnt end how I wanted it to, but it was still a good way to end the series. This series has easily made its way somewhere into my Top 25 and I have to say that I'd have to rate this series as an A even with a few minor annoyances.
Utawarerumono - [26/26 + DVD Specials] - A fun series with a lot of likeable characters. I only wish that a few more of the male characters recieved a bit more development such as Kurou and Benawi. Hakurou was a nice main character as was Eluluu. I liked the relationship between the two. Aruruu got on my nerves however and I really wanted her rubbed out. I wish that scene towards the end of the series stayed intact in regards to Aruruu, but oh well. My favorite characters though were Karula and Touka. The story progression was nice, with some good twists within. The animation along with the character designs were really nice as was most of the CG mostly used during battle sequences. Some of the episodes were a tad bit boring and some of the character designs I didn't like. Particularly those of the kingdom that was ruled by the girl with bunny ears (I forgot her name). The series kept my interest most of the time, but like I said a few episodes were a bit boring. The music for the series was also well done to go with the animation. So despite one ANNOYING character, a few boring episodes, and lack of some development for a few characters this series was solid. I'd rate it a B and somewhere within my Top 50. As a bonus the DVD's included four special short episodes, that were usually comedic and were incredibly funny and made for nice extras.
Rozen Maiden - [12/12] - Along with Kurau this series has already become a fast favorite. I dove into this series and never looked back. I found myself wanting to see what happened next most of the time. The characters are all incredibly likeable. To the refined and orderly Shinku, to the cute and lovable Hina-Ichigo, to the bitchy and bossy Suiseiseki. Even the primary antagonist of the first season, Suigintou is likeable and made things more epic whenever she was around. She was the driving force between most of the dolls fighting in the Alice Game. Jun to me was a likeable lead and both he and Shinku played really nicely off one another. The comedic and heartfelt moments are equally well balanced with the dramatic and action oriented moments. The animation, music, and voice acting were all very nice too. My only complaint is that I wish they had explained things about more. Why does most of the fighting take place within dreams? Why is it called the N-Field? Do the soul tree's play more of an importance? How were the Rosa Mystica created? What is the importance of the artifical spirits? Not much of this is explained in the manga even, which I've only read the first two volumes of prior to watching this. Despite some nagging questions this series is a new favorite and easily makes a B+ in my book. So far traumend has been just as good and I can't wait to see more!
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - [Movie] - This entry will be on the shorter side. This movie has some really good animation and fight scenes and I liked the relationship between D and Layla. It was a good movie that kept my interest and it was nice to look at. I'd rate this movie a B. Good stuff.
