Ajin

on Jul 23, 2016

AJIN follows the story of Kei, a young boy who gets hit by a car and realizes that he is a one of the feared Ajin: creatures that look like humans but hold supernatural powers and can't die.  Once he's discovered, the government comes after him and he has to go on the run, only to find himself in the middle of a war between Ajin and humans...a war he wants nothing to do with.  It's not the most creative story, but it was executed well.  My only issue is that the end of the first season feels a little rushed.  I think this could have been stretched to be 16 or so episodes so that it... Kuroshitsuji 2

on Jul 23, 2016

I immediately rushed into this anime after finishing the first season.  I was absolutely shocked by how much I enjoyed the first season of Black Butler.  I had heard that the second season was even better, so I was really looking forward to watching it and enjoying myself further, but I'm sorry to say that I found this season hard to finish... The story follows young Ciel Phantomhive who is about to get his soul eaten by his demon butler Sebastian, except his soul seems to be missing.  Sebastian tracks it down and finds another demon butler named Claude and his master, Alois.  Claude... I'm honestly shocked by how much I enjoyed "Black Butler."  I had actually tried to watch this series a few years ago and I just absolutely despised it.  But then, after being encouraged to try again by a few people, I decided to give it a go because why not.  The first 5 episodes were difficult to slog through, but after that...the pace picked up and the story became genuinely interesting. The story of "Black Butler" follows Ciel Phantomhive, a 12-year-old boy who has sold his soul to a demon in return for revenge.  He wants to kill the people who tortured him and... See full review

Usagi Drop

on Mar 4, 2014

Straight up, I ruined this for myself by looking up the show on Google.  It was an innocent search!  I was just trying to remember some people's names and I accidentally read the ending of the manga.  I CAN'T EVEN.  It ruined the show for me and, from then on, everytime I watched this, I got pretty reasonably creeped out.   Therefore, I'm not going to do my usual in-depth review because I don't think I can get over the creep-factor just yet.  I will say that I powered through this anime, which means it's definitely worth the watch, in my opinion.  It's a beautiful story... This.  Anime.  Is.  Adorable. I legit just marathoned this anime over the past few hours.  No regrets. The story follows Tsukimi, a geeky otaku girl (who is totally in love with jellyfish), who lives in a house with a few other geeky ladies.  They fear anyone stylish or beautiful and prefer to stay inside, speaking about their common interests.  There is a rule to this house: no boys allowed.  But when the beautiful Kuranosuke crosses paths with her, she has to accept that this stylish lady might have a place in her life.  Except this is no lady... this is... Beyond the Boundary

Um.  Okay.  I don't exactly know the point of this anime...? The story is about Akihito Kanbara, a glasses-loving, perverted, immortal half-youmu, who harbors a very powerful demon inside of him.  He meets Mirai Kuriyama, a Spirit World Warrior from a cursed clan who is too nervous to fight other demons by herself, so she uses him as practice.  You know, since he's immortal that makes it okay to stab a person repeatedly.  The two team up to take out large demons and find out about betrayals within their own circle and fights they didn't know needed to be fought... Well... huh.  Okay, then. I'm not going to go too into depth here, but I guess if you're into slapstick comedy then this might be for you.  The first seven episodes were hilarious until I realized there was no plot or character development and this series ended almost exactly as it started.  Maybe that was the intent, but it left me feelng rather unsatisfied.  Some of the jokes were really funny, but they became so redundant and repetitive that by the end I was rolling my eyes in annoyance. If you want 12 episodes of pure comedy and really like obvious and repeated humor, try this...

Sunday Without God

on Sep 29, 2013

Um... wut?  Spoilers ahoy! I just don't understand what on earth I just witnessed.  Sunday Without God had a cool story behind it: God left the world to its own doing and people can no longer die without being buried by a gravekeeper.  Ai, the protagonist, happens to be the only person alive who is half-gravekeeper and half-human.  At first, the story is following her and her journey with a man who may or may not be her father.  After that, things get weird. I feel as if there was never any true plot to this story, but just a bunch of smaller ones thrown together into a mindless... See full review

Attack on Titan

Guys, I don't know.  I almost didn't write a review for this anime because I am so biased.  To me, it was awesome.  Yes, I do acknowledge its flaws -pacing being a huge one - but when you are so in love with something, you kind of tend to turn a blind eye to the fact that you watched a 20 minute episode and didn't discover much, lol. Moving on, in terms of story, I do have to argue a bit about the pacing.  The last episode, for example, got some smack because people feel like it didn't add much to the story, but guys.... guys, it did.  (Spoilers here!)  Erwin now has the... Samurai Champloo

on Sep 13, 2013

The STORY of Samurai Champloo follows three very different main characters as they journey to find the man who smells of Sunflowers.  They each have their own quirks that serve to foil the other.  While traveling, they are constantly targeted by assassains and also end up getting themselves into trouble as well... with the promise of food for their services.  This anime is pretty episodic, but still manages to follow the original plotline without deviating too much. The ANIMATION was quite nice!  It's not my style too much because I tend to dislike it when the characters have super... See full review

Itazura na Kiss

on Sep 8, 2013

The STORY of Itazura na Kiss is a simple one: girl falls in love with boy, girl stalks boy, girl breaks him down until he eventually loves her back.  I didn't have too much of a problem when Irie decided he loved Kotoko, too... but I did feel like it was because she just wouldn't let up.  Other than that, this is a simple slice-of-life shoujo that follows these two characters from the time they're 18 - 28.  It's nothing impressive, and sometimes I wanted to smack this anime for being the antithesis of feminism in many ways, but it was just cute enough and just funny enough to keep my... Sword Art Online

on Aug 14, 2013

**spoilers ahoy. Sword Art Online hit the anime world with a bang.  The STORY follows Kirito and 10,000 others as they log onto a new VRMMO and find that they cannot log out.  If they die in the game, their bodies will die in real life due to their use of the NerveGear, a system which incorporates their body into the game.  The first season, when the characters are in SAO, is fantastic.  I loved watching it and wished that it could have lasted longer.  I was bummed that a lot of the first half skipped the grind of leveling and jumped around a lot, but I appreciated the fast... Yuru Yuri

on Feb 24, 2013

The cuteness, omg. The STORY of Yuru Yuri is a plain and simple one that follows the lives of middle school girls as they go about during they day-to-day lives.  There is really not much in the form of story that could make this anime exciting because this is very much a character-based series. The ANIMATION was... perfectly fine?  There wasn't anything that made it stand out from other animes, to be honest.  It's cute, to be sure, but that's about all it has going for it.   The SOUND might be a hit-or-miss for people.  I've read some reviews that hated the OP, but I LOVED it... Kamisama Dolls

on Feb 19, 2013

Huh... this was really disappointing for me.   The STORY of Kamisama Dolls follows University student Kyouhei, who is trying to escape his past and the village he was born and raised in.  The most upsetting this about this anime is that the story had so much potential.  I mean, an immesurable amount.  This could have been epic.  It would have had to been a little longer and it would have had to focus much more on Kyouhei and Aki more, but it really could've been something.  These were the thougths I was having while watching -- needless to say, when you're thinking of how to... Chobits

**I did not mathmatically calculate this score.  I don't think that SOUND and ANIMATION should effect the score of what I consider a horrible anime.  I don't care how pretty it looks or how nice it sounds, it's still terrible. Full Discloser: I have not finished the Chobits anime.  I’m debating whether or not I want to because it has upset me greatly and I am not only offended by it, I am annoyed as well.  You may continue with this review as you wish, but be warned that I posted this review before finishing the anime. Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Sailor Stars

Oh, hot damn!  Talk about the memories this brings back to me.  I spent my youth obsessing over Sailor Moon.  In fact, I was convinced I was Sailor Jupiter until I was in fifth grade.  True story.  Feel free to question my sanity. This review may very well end up biased as fuck.  Oh well. The STORY of Sailor Moon follows average junior high student Usagi Tsukino who discovers that she is a guardian of justice: Sailor Moon.  Usagi is a lazy, clumsy girl who holds no promise of being a protector whatsoever. No. 6

on Apr 30, 2012

**spoiler heaven galore ***I am ranting like crazy in this review and I really don't care if it's harsh. LOL, what the hell did I just watch? The STORY of No. 6 started out so well!  I was seriously excited to see how the animators and producers would take this dystopian society and destroy it.  I especially loved introducing the killer bees as a way to control the people and as a way for the people to fear the city.  I love dystopian and post-apocalyptic books so much and thought this anime would be right up my alley.  Unfortunately, I was very wrong. Spice and Wolf

The STORY of Spice and Wolf follows a traveling merchant, named Lawrence, who accidentally stumbles across a naked, sleeping woman.  When she wakes up, she introduces herself as Horo: The Wise Wolf.  The village people believe in a wolf god who controls the harvest, so naturally Lauwrence is suspicious until she shows him her wolf form.  From there, the two agree to travel together to get Horo back to her home in the North. The STORY of InuxBokuSS follows a young girl who has grown up in a cold family.  Because of this, Chiyo has developed a natural defense mechanism that insults and pushes away any one who gets near her.  it's not because she wants to be mean, but because she is terrified of being rejected.  On the flip side, the story introduces Miketsukami - a tortured and lonely young man who is sent to be Chiyo's Secret Service protector. Highschool of the Dead

The STORY of High School of the Dead is one that has been used a thousand times, but is always really fun to watch.  The world has been taken over by zombies and an eclectic group of teenage human survivors (plus one nurse/teacher) band together to stay alive.  They form bonds and relationships, cause drama and tension, all while kicking some serious ass and posing for various panty shots. The ANIMATION for HotD was really nice and I really liked the character designs.  I felt as if I would be able to tell the characters apart, even if you shaved off their hair (which is such a rarity... Oh, Vandread, Vandread, Vandread.  What the hell did I just watch? What on Earth is the STORY in this anime?  I really missed it.  I mean, other than the whole boys and girls being separated and then reuniting after growing up with fear of each other. I think that could have been a lot of fun, and the first part of it was, but then it became boring.  How do people manage to make a 13 episode anime boring?  I mean... there's on thirteen episodes!  But I felt very bored and was web surfing from episode 9 on.  The end of the anime began to tell a story with the harvesters... Angel Beats!

on Apr 22, 2012

The STORY of Angel Beats! was confusing and weirdly executed.  The first half of the anime is seriously boring.  I was practically passing out during it and really wanted to drop this.  Because of how boring I found it to be, I stopped watching for a very long time.  When I had finally picked it back up, I was on episode 8.  After episode 10, the story really gets moving and becomes very interesting, but why did I have to wait 10 episodes for such a thing?  Honestly. Also, the anti-Angel campaign becomes really wearisome.  I feel like Yuri is just operating on her own... See full review

Elfen Lied

Everyone has been raving to me about Elfen Lied.  They all have recommended it to me a thousand times over and I thought I should do their opinion's justice and finally watch it for myself.  Unfortunately, I do not hold the same opinion as that of many of my peers.  Please bear in mind that whenever an anime has a plot like this, I inevitably compare it to Now and Then, Here and There.  And let's be honest... nothing can compare to the latter. The STORY was one that could have been so successful, but there was a flaw in itself.  I do not believe the flaw was in the way it was... See full review

Softenni

on Jul 17, 2011

The STORY of Softenni follows a group of young girls and their aspirations for their soft tennis dreams - mostly, to make it to nationals. (Or to Wimbledon - which can't be done). The cliches in this anime are overdone - especially the amnesia arc. This is a sports anime with a lot of forced ecchi and comedy thrown in between to try and spice things up, but unfortunately it fails to deliver. The ANIMATION is very cartoon-y and really, quite awful.  The background is normally a blur of a scenery and it looks as if the animators created this in one day.  The character designs are pretty diverse... The STORY of A-Channel follows a young girl named Tooru entering High School for the first time and having to learn to share her best friend, Run, who is a year older than her and has made some friends in High School already.  The plot line is relatively weak, but this is an anime that relys on the characters, rather than the plot. The ANIMATION is very cartoon-y, which in it's defense, is a perfectly suited for this kind of family-friendly anime.  However, it's not my style.  All of the characters have enormously big eyes that are reminiscent of older animes and are drawn in the blocky... Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko

on Jul 16, 2011

The STORY for Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko was not what I was expecting - and I think it is because of this that I didn't enjoy it much.  The premise seems very interesting: a young girl was gone for half a year and then was found in the sea with no recollection of what happened.  Now, she thinks she's an alien and walks around with a futon wrapped around her upper body.  Uh - sounds awesome!  But the execution of this anime was poor and soon this turned into a typical, harem anime.
