Spring 2011 season anime has come about, and I've been scouring through all of the up and coming seasons to see which 'strike my fancy', so to speak. So far, I have found quite a few that seem very promising and some I am still hesitant on, but willing to try.
Perhaps the one I am most excited about is STEINS;GATE. Yet another game-adapted anime, this one seems to hold more promise than the typical harem anime I've been seeing lately. STEINS;GATE follows a group of teenagers who discover a way for their microwave to send text messages to the past. Of course, messing with the past can have some serious side effects. On the other hand, there is another group, SERN, who is also doing research on time travel and wants to capture all of the members. Chaos ensues. I have not seen the first episode yet (although once I catch up with Wandering Son, I will), however it airs on Tuesdays at 2:35pm if you're premium on Crunchyroll.
Another that I am anxiously anticipating is Deadman's Wonderland. (Summary taken straight from Crunchyroll: Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of a crime that he hasn't committed, and sent to a new, privately owned and operated prison, where the inmates are the main attraction in a modern day twist to the gladiatorial coliseums of ancient times). The artwork that I have seen so far is visually stimulating, with an interesting ancient and futuristic mix to the plot of the anime. It's very hard to mix two competing aspects, so I have high hopes that this anime can do so successfully.
One more that I am interested in is A Bridge to the Starry Sky. Summary taken from Crunchyroll: Kazuma Hoshino moves to the beautiful countryside to take care of his little brother, Ayumu Hoshino. They ended up staying in a Japanese Inn that their father knows but not being accustomed to the streets of the countryside, they get lost on their way to the Japanese Inn. Moreover, Kazuma gets into a bit of mischief in the mountains...Being in an unfamiliar place, a woman appears before him). Basically, this seems a bit like a magical slice of life anime. For me, this anime always keep my interest and I enjoy them (although they rarely top my favorites list). I am thinking that this is a light anime that will later take a darker turn. My only hope is that they can keep the fanservice a bit down (unlike some other recent animes I've seen where it's been over the top in these sorts of anime).
And last, but not least, I am also looking forward to We, Without Wings. Not much seems to be known about this anime, except it will be a love story set in the fast paced city of Yanagihara. Probably quite a bit of melancholy and nostalgia will ensue, but like I said with A Bridge to the Starry Sky - I quite like this lot of anime.
Other animes that I am going to watch are: SKET Dance, The World Only God Knows, Battle Girls, Hanasuka Iroha, My Ordinary Life, Astarotte's Toy and Sekai Ichi Hatsuhoki (my first experience with yaoi).
