Final Fantasy XIV

10 AUG
2009

So I was a big fan of FFXI Online back in the day.  It was one of the first MMOs I got heavily involved in and played thru a good amount. Only made it to 63 with a mithra monk so I never quite got to the endgame stuff.

Well now I see that Squinx is issuing a new FF MMO.

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/  - Here's the official website if you want to take a gander.

Of course the big thing will be the fact that the graphics will be updated since its running in tandem with the PS3.  That was always a stickler for me was having the game based on the PS2 meant that the graphics would not always get an update, so playing it on the PC was as much a bonus as it could be.  The lands they've shown so far are very pretty and impressive as should be for this generation of consoles and PC gear.

The races look to be taken straight from FFXI and ran thru a blender.  The mithra are now mo'quite and live around the icy lands instead of the tropics.  They are into two factions but no word if you'll be allowed as a male mithra.  One of the things about the previous FF MMO was the male'thras, or male players that played mithra.  The storyline, to explain why no male mithras were around, indicated that the males are so few and far between they are kept in their villages protected, ala breeders, and are never really let out into the world.  Thus you'd never see male mithra, only the female counter parts.  Considering they were the best when it came to Dex and Accuracy, you kinda got stuck with them.

The other races are still in the new game, though with different names as well.  Will they have the same starting stats or will they get changed up is anybody's guess.

The job based system is interesting in that to "level up" a job you pretty much just equip a weapon that is related to that job.  So instead of leveling up whm, you stick on a mace that is tied to the whm job and then level up with that.  Or so it seems in theory.  We'll see how it pans out.

Overall I'm looking forward to it.  I figure Aion will keep me busy enough thru this year and into next and by then when the FF game comes out I'll jump ship.

Toodles!

Also the first mmo that has sparked any interest for me in a while.  I had a 35/18 rdm/blm back on ffxi and had gotten ninja up to 14 to sub for rdm to solo.  Out of all the mmo's I played ffxi was the only one that stayed fun.  I quit playing because the server I played on Garuda was pretty much dead and finding a party was rediculous.

Hopefully ffiv will be good too!  Although if it's anything like xi finding the time to play will be hard T_T
