I recommend that you read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I read a lot (fantasy, fiction, mystery, thrillers, historical fiction, etc.) and The Name of the Wind is my favorite fantasy novel. It really pulls you into the story and I love the way it is written. There is a Japanese translation if you prefer.
So nice to see someone else love Nana! Most people I recommended it to said it was too much like a soap opera... which I guess in a way is true. Then again, I did like the Bold and the Beautiful ;P
You're so lucky to be able to go and live and work in Japan. The closest I'm hoping to get is to go there for my honeymoon! Hope you've saved up to pay for the excess baggage that will be inevitable on the way home ^^
