I have not seen Kino (yet) so you might be right. But it seems to me as if haibane has the mood and Kino the setting when it comes to comparing them to Mushishi.

It would be rather painful to see an anime that tried to be like Mushishi. I think the closest there is to Mushishi  would be Haibane Renmei, and that series is only trying to be itself.
