My bad for the late reply :(. A very old anime (a Dutch and Japanese joint production) called Ox's tales, Wowser (a big white dog that loves eating food) & Thundercats (an American production, but animated in Japan). Mind you these animes were very sporodic in being aired to the west (in comparison these days). But that is what got me in to it :).
