Interlude

Serial Experiments Lain and Interlude share the same weird feeling and story, where reality and imagination share blurry boundaries and characters, which try to understand what is happening around them. Also, there sci-fi reasons to why they are similar. So, if you liked the "dementia" aspect of one of these series, you will like the other.

Golden Boy

Great Teacher Onizuka

Ecchi, lots of comedy, hentai loving main characters and lots of very funny weird faces. Also, both main characters have lots of similarities, and if you liked one of them, you will like the other one. That is why Golden Boy and GTO should be watched for anyone that likes light comedy, yet also enjoys it when some brief moments of seriousness comes.

Tenjho Tenge

Naruto

If you like Naruto or Tenjou Tenge for its intensive fights, special shining powers, extensive flashbacks and interesting yet weird characters, you will like the other. But be ware that the story pace is very different for each one, since TenTen is much faster and Naruto takes many episodes to develop.

What Jin Roh and Kenshin - Tsuiokuhen share is the same dark, yet realistic atmosphere, and also intensive romance, shocking drama and much bloody action. Without doubt, these share much and one who watches one of them will like the other.

Kino's Journey

Haibane Renmei

For me, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei and Kino no Tabi are considered the “philosophers triad”, not only because they make you think with their exotic and original plot, but also because the story looks like it was made out of dreams, or nightmares. They share the fact that the story is not exactly what you think it is, the puzzle will never get finished and information will always be missing, the characters are original and develop by learning about the surrounding world, and the animation looks alike, mostly because of the colors.

Infinite Ryvius

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Planetes

Not only Infinite Ryvius and Planetes happens in space (so being Sci-fi considered animes), both have very interesting characters who develop while trying to cope with different and new situations. Also, both show a realistic side of humans and how they react when situations go out of control. So, if you enjoyed Infinite Ryvius for its realistic characters, somewhat slow paced story in the first half of it and also the Sci-Fi background, this is the anime for you.
