Okay, now Lets see how this years anime holds up:
Rio Rainbow Gate: Did any of you guys watch saki? It was cute, and charming, and occasionally pretty epic. It had very strong character development and was fun even if you had no idea what was going on. This is not that. Its got the "epic gameplay" sort of feel that saki had, but the characters are flat and everything feels like an excuse to put the large breasted female lead in various outfits. In the first episode they did some sort of poker battle, and I know how to play poker, so you'd expect this to be better than saki's confusing mahjongg. It wasn't. The only thing this show has is the fact that it is sort of pretty on its own, but there are much prettier and much better shows out there, so dont watch this.
Infinite Stratos: This one guy is the only guy in the world who can pilot these mech exosceletons, the rest are all girls. So now he has to share a school with a bunch of girls as he lears how to pilot these blash blash blah...
Now at least the above had pretty visuals and looked like it was planning on going somewhere. This show say "Hey everyone, I got awesome mechs, but I'm not going to use them for cool stuff" right off the bat. We have a means to fight, but nothing to fight.
So normally at this point, you'd think, maybe they're going for drama or comedy? They're not even going for that, its not funny, chrome shelled regios was funnier, and it wasnt a comedy, I've been to funerals funnier than this show. The drama on the other hand, was equally useless. So I guess in one word, I guess you could call this anime useless, it has nothing going for it, it could, but I doubt that it will.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Now I'm not just recommending it because I'm into magical girl animes. Its really good, A whole bunch of really talented folk worked on this anime. Its being directed and produced by Akiyuki Shinbo and his production company SHAFT, this guy is known for his rather avant-garde and his ability to make even the most mundane incomprehensible and mysterious. Writing this anime is Gen Urobuchi, best known for phantom and other rather dark works. Gen Urobuchi really aides the atmosphere with her ability to make very mysterious sounding music and BGM, she did write the music for all the .hack//s after all. And one of my favorite artists in anime, Ume Aoki, is doing character designs. I love her art style, its so cute and down to earth, and its the only art that is known to cause nutbladders to rupture.
So yes, I took too long to describe just who is doing this anime, so I dont have time to tell you what its about, just watch it. Seriously.
Kimi ni Todoke 2nd: Continued from the first awesome series... which I think I already covered. So yeah, its about a shy girl learning about the awesomeness of having a social life. Its really good, and I doubt it stopped being awesome just because they added a cardinal number to the title.
This is a shojo though, so if you arent into that, you arent into that.
Yumekui: Man this anime is confusing, But this is my specialty. Theres a guy who can predict peoples dreams by looking at people through his fingers, and there's a girl who's obviously a demon (cute, poorly dressed, pointy ears? If I learned anything from disgaea, she's a demon) who for some reason shows up in his dreamworld along with this guy when he is attacked by john doe, who wants to take over the world.
But really, I think this show is just trying to confuse you right now. Even the backgrounds are often confusing, the rubble looks like it was made to be rubble and nothing else (I guess for the slum atmosphere?) and the opening showed us a lot of things that screamed that this is planning on being really cool. Now lets see if it can pull it off.
Gosick: A japanese guy moves to England and meets a goth loli detective who rolls around on the floor a lot.
I'm not really sure what this anime is planning, but for now it looks like its gonna be an episodic thing with crime solving stuff. But at least here, the characters are likable and the art is pretty. My biggest problem with it was that it was a little too fast paced, and the depth might get confusing because of that. Though maybe thats why I've always thought that crime dramas should be at least an hour long, because half an hour is just not long enough for something like this.
Mitsudomoe: So the entire episode was a power rangers spoof. Though it was a pretty funny parody of power rangers, and it is so far the first anime this season to make me laugh. So yeah, even though the titular triplets got about three minutes of screen time, it was still a fun production, and it does not require you to have watched the first season to watch the second.
freezing: Wow, this anime pretty much covers everything that is wrong with anime. Its plot is both confusing and stolen, unnecessary english, conspicuous CG, and it seems to think that no one knows what breasts are. I know what they are, spend more time explaining your confusing plot and less pointing out what those things on that girl's chest are. And yes, this show shows bare breasts too. The only good thing I can say about it is that the action is pretty okay, if a little too gruesome.
Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!: See? this anime is aware of what boobs are, as there really arent any to speak of. However, does it realize that I also know what butts are? Remember that anime last season with the really long negative little sister statement? Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai? Yeah, its kinda like that, except this time, the main character is the sister, and she has an older brother complex.
Though this anime isnt about the joys and hardships of being an otaku like OreImo was, it seems that this anime is actually going for this little sister moe this time (hence all the panty shots, little sisters arent supposed to have boobs. having wide hips, thats fine.) And it actually is funny, which isnt happening enough this season. So once again, will this anime go for fanservice or for comedy? Only time will tell.
Dragon crisis: Ryuji somehow gets involved in... saving(?) a dragon girl from the... Mafia(?) because she has some sort of... precious(?) that does... stuff? It doesnt really explain anything, but I think I can get the jist of it.
Why is studio DEEN acting like JC Staff? This show is like a clip show of things JC staff has done. Shakugan no shana, toradora, index, familiar of zero, and I'm sure a few others, JC staff is also known for retreading its own ground. But why, I ask, would anyone want to pretend to be someone else? Its not like studio DEEN cant make good anime on its own merits. But seriously.
So, if you like the type of stuff JC Staff makes, then you might think this is rather cliched. And besides that, the only reason you might want to watch this show is because rose is absolutly precious. Those eyes, its like... eyes.
Oh, and that guy at the end looks interesting. I wonder what he does
Kore wa Zombie desu ka? This guy live a rather bland life as a high school student while he lives with a couple of girls. Except he's a zombie. And the girls arent exactly normal. And I've never seen a magical girl wield a chainsaw before.
Studio DEEN. This. This is what you should make. It was funny and interesting to watch. Why didnt you just put more of your budget into this? This is so much better. Oh well. Bu really, this show is funny, action packed and genre-tastic. Sure, the fan service is a little too high for some folk, but it doesnt just apply to the girls. Though at times, this show feels a little too messy, and not just all the blood. It feels like it has a little too much going on right off the bat.
By the way, make sure you dont start eating a pie like I was when the guy in a trench coat shows up, or you'll die too.
Level E: Baseball man moves out to the country to play baseball for a highschool there. He meets alien man and everyone explodes.
If you refuse to watch any of the others, at leasst watch this. theres nothing objectionable, its written by the same guy who did yu yu hakusho, And playes out like jungle wa itsumo hare nochhi guu, only more realistic, if that means anything. So just do it. Okay?
