Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Jul 21, 2013

Story: The protagonist from another world becomes stranded in a new world, the protagonist adapts to the new environment, the protagonist begins to prefer new world over old one, and then the protagonist saves the new world. Many anime use this setting, with only small variations, including Inuyasha, Zero no Tsukaima, Dog Days, and Hataraku Maou-sama. I enjoyed all of these to a certain extent (except Dog Days; was just too bizarre for me), but none of these shows really focused on how the protagonist struggles to adapt. After one or two episodes of the protagonist being awkward, he/she becomes used to... See full review

Chihayafuru

Jun 7, 2014

Chihayafuru is an average anime. I have nothing significantly bad to say about it, yet at the same time, giving it anything more than a 6 doesn't feel right. Story: The first half of season one is quite predictable (and slow paced) and the second half begins to feel repetitive. At one point, I considered dropping the series because I was so bored. It certainly didn't help that the show fails to maintain a tense atmosphere to keep the viewer on edge of his/her seat. Lessons that the main character, Chihaya, supposedly learns during matches seem to be forgotten all the time. For example, they seemed to... See full review

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Mar 31, 2013

Sakurasou is an average show. It starts like a typical fan service/romantic comedy. It has typical characters. It has typical character designs. It has a typical, boring, wimpy main character. Story: For about the first six episodes, I expected almost nothing out of the show. Then they tried to make it unique, by having the main character do something with himself, rather than just living life, attending school, and walking into scene after scene of fan service (he still did, but at least they tried to make the story a little different from other anime in the same genre). The first half of the show... See full review

Strike Witches Movie

Oct 28, 2012

The movie trailer had me totally convinced that the main setting was Romagna. Then I watched the movie. It's not. lol From the perspective of a Strike Witches fan, this movie was great. It introduced land Neuroi, normal troops fighting Neuroi, introduced other witches, and did other things to expand the Strike Witches universe for people who don't have access to the semi-canon doujinshi, LN's, and manga. It had the usual amount of panty-shots. The beginning starts off with a couple of nicel animated fights and it was nice to see the 501st again. Also, I don't think I've ever liked Perrine in season 1 or 2... See full review

Little Busters!

Oct 7, 2012

This is my rant review of Little Busters! Story: I will start with an introduction to the typical formula for a Key VN adaptation. Little Busters!, like Air, Kanon, and Clannad (and Clannad After Story), is a visual novel adaptation. Unlike visual novels, anime cannot take a specific routes and then restart to try another. Successful adaptations must somehow combine scenes from all routes and have an overall conflict, in addition to the subconflicts in each arc. Kanon does this by combining Ayu's search for a lost belonging with the problems of every other damsel in distress heroine. It does... See full review

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaku Outbreak

Oct 6, 2013

There is not much to say about this OVA. The animation quality was about the same as Rei. It used already existing soundtracks. The story was interesting, but didn't feel very climactic. I was disappointed to see that many characters didn't make an appearance (Ooishi, Takano, Tomitake, Akasaka, Shion). I was also disappointed that Rika only had about 3 minutes of screen time. The ending was sort of cliche. It's nice to see the main characters again, but don't have too high expectations for this OVA. On a positive note, Kaku is better than Kira.

Attack on Titan

Aug 12, 2013

Before, I get started, allow me to say something: Hyped anime like these always seem to get at least one (usually many more) review where it is simply made up of "ermahgerd this anime wus so awesome u must watch it haz cool characters and fun plot" and a 9/10 or 10/10 on every section. I beseech you not to take any reviews like this seriously. Reviews should explain what makes the characters "cool" and why the plot is "fun." The ratings should be justified. If you just want to tell others how much you enjoy watching the anime, put it on your profile, or go find a forum, not a... See full review

Vividred Operation

Mar 24, 2013

Let's just get one thing clear: I am a Strike Witches fanboy. BUT that will not affect my review of Vividred Operation. I can guarantee that, because in my opinion, Strike Witches is 100000000000000000 times better than this show. Thus, you can be assured that this review will remain as objective as possible. Story: As this show was made by the same director as Strike Witches and Sky Girls, I expected very little in terms of plot. My expectations were fulfilled. Of these three works, I have to say Sky Girls has the best plot development (and ironically it is the least well known). Vividred... See full review

Kaleido Star

Feb 14, 2013

Story Naegino Sora wants to be the top star of Kaleido Stage, an entertainment group. While Kaleido Star has a very basic, not to mention cheesy, premise, it managed to keep me on the edge of my seat throughout all fifty one episodes. Kaleido Star's story is paced and structured very well. It is what I call "semi-episodic," in that it balances single episode stories about daily life in the troupe with multi episode arcs that progress the plot. In addition, there were very few times when I could confidently say Sora would succeed in her attempts at a new manuever or an audition/competition. Even... See full review

Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day

Feb 11, 2013

Story After hearing from friends how great this anime was, I finally decided to watch Anohana, and was somewhat disappointed. The first problems that came into my mind as I watched were 1) If the girl can interact with her environment, why doesn't she do that from the beginning to prove her existence? and 2) The first episodes really emphasized the distance that had formed between the friends, but suddenly, they are acting a bit nicer to each other. eg: Tsuruko is a complete b**** towards Anaru when she picks up her notebook for her, but then speaks to her in a somewhat normal tone later on. The second... See full review

My Little Monster

Oct 2, 2012

Story (3/10): The plot starts off in a very unique manner, but then quickly goes downhill from there. First, the girl rejects the guy. Then the guy rejects the girl. Then it switches. Again. And Again. And again. And aga- You get the point. I saw quite a bit of potential in this series during the first few episodes, but after that, this show became a typical rom-com with rivals in romance appearing for both protagonists. Kaibutsu-kun's inability to take things seriously put me off the most. Issues that should have been resolved maturely, are instead ignored/interrupted/forgotten through the unpredictable... K-On! Movie

Sep 22, 2012

This movie is highly overrated. It's ranked well because only K-On fans watch this movie. Now, I am not saying the movie was not enjoyable. It was nice to see all the characters again, and the ending song was great as usual. Howver, it does not deserve to be on the first page of the rankings. Story (4/10): The plot is basic and seems more like a very long episode than a movie. Not that epic and I would not rewatch it anytime soon. Animation (5/10): The animation quality is about the same as the two seasons. Nothing special. Sound (7/10): Singing (the ending) was pretty... See full review

Sword Art Online

Jul 13, 2012

In the year 2022, on the opening day of the virtual reality MMO game Sword Art Online, hundreds of players are trapped within the virtual world, unable to logout. The only way to escape is to clear all 100 levels and their respective bosses. While this concept had potential, the anime was poorly made, resulting in a huge letdown. Sound and animation were up to par, but the story and characters were terrible. Story/Characters: SAO has so many bad points that I almost don't know where to start. One of the problems I noticed after watching a few episodes, is that there are too many episodes that add... See full review
