I'm a 16 year old year old squashmore who's been into anime for a year or two now. Well, that isn't entirely true since I’ve been watching the anime on T.V. since i was little. My first anime was Pokemon which I watched every week when it aired in America. Along with Pokemon my childhood consisted of: Digimon, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and Zatch Bell (the ones on Cartoon Network).
It was in 1st-2nd grade that I was introduced into a new category of anime by my best friend http://www.anime-planet.com/users/shadowshade. He would constantly bug me to watch a show called Naruto which aired during Adult Swim. At the young age the sexy jutsu really put me off, but I got over it eventually fell in love with the show. Later he introduced me to Bleach. Again, I reluctant to try it, but fell in love with it when I did. Despite all this I still didn’t know it was anime, I didn’t even know about anime at this point in time.
Then in 8th-9th grade I started talking to my friend http://www.anime-planet.com/users/veggiegirl and was pushed into trying the anime Angel Beats!. This was the first “real” anime I had ever watched. I was amazed as I watched a new world unfold in front of my eyes. It wasn’t just some “cartoon”, it was anime.
Through the next summer and school year I immersed myself in anime, watching it every chance I got and fell in love. Faster than ever before 9th grade then the summer were gone and I was in High School. Once in High School I was amazed to see how many anime freaks were out there. They were everywhere if you knew where to look. Eventually I’d made several friends that I would hang out with and watch anime or just talk to them in class. I even managed to get a few friends hooked along the way http://www.anime-planet.com/users/Luneth1111air and http://www.anime-planet.com/users/MidtaleFox.
I wouldn’t be who I am today without anime. Even in my childhood anime was shaping me without my knowing. I’ve learned so much from it and it’s changed my outlook in so many different ways. I can see the world in a whole new light, and it’s a great view.
