This is the Hundred-and-fifty-third week of using the "Perfect Anime Girl Sheet". Notice: This Blog may contain Unmarked Spoilers.
Earlier this year I had the pleasure to see a really sad anime. One that really tugs at your heart. Today's girl has had to deal with a mother that slowly forgot who she is.
[center]Today's girl is:
Hair: Minagi's hair is somewhat long, extending past the shoulders and ending about where her shoulder blades are. Both the sides and back of her hair are the same length. Her hair is a black or grey color, though her official hair color is considered "brown". This is noticeable in some images, but I see her as having grey colored hair than brown. I'm not that big on the hair either but I will say that it looks good. I think that the reflections of it makes it look too greasy even though it's supposed to be "softness" I can assume. The blue ribbons do help though, they make her look better than without as they provide some change rather than the pretty generic hairstyle. Oh, and sometimes she wears a nice sun hat which is also cute, can't forget that.
Eyes: AIR has a very distinct facial style. I'll get to it in detail later, but I wanted to mention it now as it includes the eye. It is a nice eye shape, but it does take some getting used to. As for Minagi in specific, I'm not a fan, but I don't totally dislike her eyes. She has a very relaxed, calming eyes, which fit her character well. However, the biggest downfall is that they're red, or "reddish pink" officially (not that that helps any), and I don't like that color. There are times that they look somewhat Fuchsia-like, but not always. Overall, she's pretty average due to her pluses and minuses.
Face: Now I mentioned that the faces of AIR are distinct. That is, you can tell that this is one of the first KEY/Kyoto Animation collaborations. Not that they're ugly, they're just, well, old (yes, 2005 can be considered a while ago in the anime world). The facial positioning is pretty poor compared to most shows today. The mouth and nose is centered too much and the eyes are a bit too large (even compared to other anime characters, compare AIR to Clannad or another Key production). It's similar to the older, "worse" Kanon show as well, and we all know how "Am I kawaii, Uguu~!" that show was...
That said, we do have to remember that AIR was one of KEY's first productions. Sure it wasn't their best, but for a first start it's still pretty cute. A small smile or sob from her is still very powerful. If we compare it to today's shows it won't hold up, but she's still a cute girl if a bit old-fashioned.
Build: Minagi is an average teenage girl. Well, anime-based average at least. She's not especially impressive, but she's still attractive-looking. It doesn't help that AIR isn't exactly known for fanservice as well. What I think her best features would be her waist and butt. Really. It seems like most of her official art has her turned slightly as and you can really see her butt sticking out. It's not like she's huge of course, it's just something I notice that they might be specifically bringing it to attention. Of course, it might just be due to the fact that we always see her in dresses and I don't know how loose they might be, but I still say she's got a nice lower body (even if we rarely see her legs due to her long dress).
Breasts: Again this is another "average" area here. She's definitely not bad, but lack of seeing them (even cleavage, I mean) does hurt her. Minagi is pretty average among the three main leads are about as busty as she is, and has to compete with bustier older women like Hijiri or Haruko.
Clothes: We mainly see Minagi in her school uniform. This consists of a cream/vanilla colored shirt with puffy shoulders and a dark grey-colored dress with a tie in back (the dress reminds me of an apron. Though if it was I'd expect more images of her wearing just that...). The dress, as said before is very long. As in, it extends past her knees, which is a bit of a turn off. However, there's also her red scarf/handkerchief on her neck, which does look nice (especially the cute cross pin). As for other outfits, she also has a casual outfit that's fairly widespread in art as well. It has a similar color scheme (dark on white), but instead it's a dark jacket on a white dress (again, it's a fairly long dress and there's a tie at the back).
Personality: Minagi shares many similarities with one of my favorite characters, Mai Kawasumi. Which makes sense, as they're both created by KEY. Like Mai, Minagi is a quiet, smart girl. Similarity, both of them have a hard time making new friends. Minagi is in the Astronomy club as the president (and also only member). Her only friend was a younger girl called Michiru. Voice wise she's done by Ryouka Yuzuki, a lesser known VA, but she does do Minagi's soft, gentle voice very well. She also carries around a substance called "Star Sand". Overall, a nice simple girl for me.
However, as we see in her arc, Minagi has her share of difficulties. Her mother has nearly forgotten who she is, and is even forgetting that she even has a daughter. This is due to her mother having a miscarriage. Her mother wanted a second child as Minagi was mostly attached to her father (who is away on business for the extent of the anime). Due to mental problems, her mother then thought of Minagi as the miscarried child and calls her "Michiru" which was the name of the child she was baring. Eventually it got so bad that she kicked Minagi out of the house not knowing that she was her daughter! Afterward she begins to hang around Yukito, the male lead and following him around.
With the male lead, she returns and suddenly the memories come back. Though this also leads to an awkward moment as Michiru (Minagi's friend) also eats dinner with them. It is eventually revealed that Michiru was actually a wandering spirit that was connected to Minagi to help her. Then the spirit disappears and it's a very touching moment.
Eventually, Minagi receives a letter from her father, who has moved to another town and married another woman. They also have a child, who in a twist of fate looks exactly like Michiru!
Libido: To be fair, AIR was based on an H-game. However, having never played it I probably shouldn't use it as a base of comparison. In the anime, it's never stated that Minagi has feelings of "love" for Yukito. Her arc was more of her learning about her mother and life rather than just getting closer to him.
Age: Minagi is 15. In other words, she's underage for me, but still within a "grace" period. Her body fits her age as well.
Total Grades: 68
Average score: 7.6
Final Grade: B
