As apparently I am not allowed to create reviews unless I apply for it, I might as well do it here. So the anime I am reviewing right now is: Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai.
The story is about a group of six friends that have hanged out together since primary school. They have their own little private place and they call themselves the super peace busters. Like in most animes of this type, everyone has a crush on everyone. But at the beginning you don't know that as the group "super peace busters" has been seperated as time passed by. So the whole primary school group event was in the past. In the current present, you have one of the members of the group: Jintan. Jintan is a boy that really does not care about school and understands that he is different and that he will not get any friends. Well actually, he has one friend, a girl called: Menma. The thing is that Menma is not really alive, she is a ghost. She is a ghost because she died when the group of six friends were still together and her death and time is what brought them apart.
Honestly, I really liked the story as it was different than most animes of this kind. This was more the friendship and 'i will never forget you my friend' kind of anime. Not all of the presentations of the events in the anime made total sense. At the beginning I thought Menma was Jintan's sister. I thought the events could be presented a bit better and with a bit more detail. It was like the group did something for no reason and I got really confused why they did that something for no reason. If this was supposed to be like that, then chapeau. If not then maybe more details would have made the audience understand the story a bit better.
The animation in this anime was good. I was pleased with the color as well with the outlines and everything. I didn't think the animation was outstanding but it definitely fit in the kind of anime Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai was. There were not super nice landscapes except for the ones near their little super peace buster place. Even those were not outstanding but they were detailed enough to acknowledge the beauty of the place. Overall, I though the animation was well done.
Sound: who cares about sound when you have subtitles? But seriously, the sound was fine and I'm not going to write a whole paragraph about the sound.
AH finally, the part I was waiting for. All the characters in this anime were so confusing. But as I watch more anime, I realized that the characters in love story animes like to not say what they feel and just act like everything is okay OR SAY SOMETHING THAT IS SIMILAR TO WHAT THEY FEEL BUT NOT REALLY. C'mon dude, just let it out. It's fine, no one is going to judge you because honestly, when a character in an anime is keeping in what they are feeling and they had like 4830572085238704 chances to tell how they feel, it kinda pisses me off. I thought that all the characters in this anime were like that. Some of you might like it, some of you might not. But the good thing about the characters is that in the middle of the anime, they all had a breakdown and everyone just let out how they felt. The characters in this anime (except for Jintan) I did not get to know very well and I thought it was pity because they are all great especially Poppo. Also, I did not feel like the characters had feelings about anything else except for Menma and their crush. I thought that it would be interesting if we really knew why Jintan's dad doesn't care about Jintan not going to school. Or if we knew why Jintan called Menma ugly. Or what really happened to Menma. I thought there could have been more deepness to the characters in this anime.
I thought this anime was GR8 with an 8. Even though the characters weren't as great as they could have been, I thought the animation and the story were amazing. I even cried at the end. I think everyone should watch this anime because it is different and makes you think and cry. Well done!
