It’s not every day you run into shows that are just plain eccentric, especially one that's centered on baths. Well, that’s exactly what happened to me, thanks to a little TV special I stumbled upon called Thermae Romae, based on Mari Yamazaki’s award-winning manga of the same name. It may seem like just another low-quality show with no point whatsoever, but Thermae Romae is a fairly humorous show that has a surprising amount of depth to it. Set in ancient Rome, it follows the bizarre, time-trotting adventures of public bath architect Lucius Modestus to modern-day Japan.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

I’m sure those who experienced the Haruhi Suzumiya re-broadcast expressed great disappointment for the inclusion of the infamous Endless Eight arc. I should know, because I’m one of the many who did. Afterwards, a friend of mine somewhat defended it, stating it was a pretty clever ‘stunt’ and exemplified the meaning of that particular arc’s title. My Bride is a Mermaid

Seto no Hanayome (My Bride is a Mermaid) combines romantic, harem-esque comedy with slapstick, parody, and a bit of action in the mix, pulling off a great presentation of its characters in an extremely humorous yet outstanding fashion. I honestly haven’t laughed this hard in quite a while, and of course, that’s a good thing. I already had some good vibes going into Seto no Hanayome, though in the end, it exceeded my expectations, and has since become one of my favorite anime comedy shows to date.
