Red River

on

I found out about Red River from the Anime Planet homepage under "Random Manga", so for me, it was like finding a hidden gem among thousands of other manga. Red River had everything I was looking for in a shojo romance manga, so I hope my following review will help you if shojo romance is your thing. Story: Red River, in my opinion, has a Cinderella dynamic in which there is a normal girl, a prince, and a wicked stepmother. Yuri is an average girl from Japan, who is transported to 14th Century B.C. by Queen Nakia, the Tawananna of the Hittite Empire. Queen Nakia is... See full review

This manga threw me for a bit of a loop. I'm a romance fan, so I did finish this manga all in one day, but the plot was still missing something... Story: Kurumi, female lead, meets Hakuron, male lead, who's injured, takes him home and gives him first aid. He is so amazed at her kindess that he kidnaps her and brings her with him to Hong Kong, where he is none other than the head mafia boss of a major Hong Kong mafia syndicate. Things start to get ugly when his other lovers get jealous of Kurumi and, in my opinion, the entire story just starts to fall apart. The story gets very dark, with frequent... See full review

Gentlemen's Alliance Cross

I'll come right out and say it, I'm a hopeless romantic so I love to read shojo romance stories. That said, this manga had been on my "To Read" list since 2008? I just never had time to get around to it. I enjoyed it, for the most part, but a lot of it just plain irritated me, as I will describe below. -After writing this review, I realized that it sounds like I hated this manga more than I liked it. I liked it enough to finish it four days after starting it, but that does not excuse the quality of the story- Story: Haine dedicates her life and love to a boy who drew a picture book that was... Tail of the Moon

This manga was so good that I literally could not put it down. If you dig shojo or romance, this is definitely worth reading. This story sort of struck me as a cinderella story. Not that the girl was poor in the beginning, but rather that she's a goof with no talent in the art of being a ninja, yet the leading male character, who's pretty much perfect in every way, manages to warm up to her anyway. The story starts with a girl, Usagi, who's the great grand daughter of the leader of her clan (who happens to be a very powerful ninja). She's slow, dimwitted, and pretty much incapable of being a ninja... See full review

100% Perfect Girl

on

This was a very, very dark romance story. It seemed pretty light hearted at first, but the story quickly moved towards very dark themes of "possible" rape, betrayal, revenge, mafias, kidnappings, assasinations, attempted suicide, murder, and violent relationships. The ending was very good, but the story throughout was just a little too dark for my tastes. The entire story is focused on the two main characters romance, and how Jarte deals with his obsessive need to control Jay. Jarte is a king, so the lifestyle that Jay enters into is much different than she's used to, and she is often the target... See full review
