My interest in anime stems from my love for japanese animated art. As a child, I used to to draw characters from the original Dragonball manga; and growing up, I was always interested in this simplistic and unqiue art form. Of course, I would probably shoot myself before taking a career in art. The first anime movie I saw was the classic "My Neighbor Totoro" by Hayao Miyzaki (excellent director) and the first show I saw all the way through was "Neon Genesis Evangelion".
I am very selective when it comes to the anime I watch and am naturally attracted to some more than others. I enjoy shonen anime with, whenever possible, elements of japanese history, high quality art, ***realistic story (realistic in the sense that the characters are "human"), and excellent directorship. Here are some great anime movies: any Miyazaki film (the art and music are beautiful), Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo! in Love (watch for Kain...), Only Yesterday, Barefoot Gen, and Voices of a Distant Star. Some excellent anime shows include: Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop (everyone loves this show), Escaflowne, Full Metal Alchemist - Brotherhood, and Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex.
Because I read reviews, usually multiple, most of the anime I watch is interesting and enjoyable. This is the reason why my average ratings are high. By the way, this site has excellent reviews, so much so that I come here before I go anywhere else. I highly recommend reading reviews from Vivisqueen and Vivafruit. Some reviews sites that I have gone to in the past include: theanimereview.com, loveofanime.com, amr.nextstudio.net (anime meta review), themanime.org, and animeworld.com (AAW).
Since I'm very selective, theres a lot of genres I don't watch. Please leave me a comment, if you know of shows that I may be interested in.
*If you want to see the best in anime art, watch an animated movie, and please watch a high quality version.
