Score 5/10

This series started out great. In a well animated opening scene, cherry blossoms floating in the air are the backdrop for high school kids fighting through a band of zombies. The opening tells you exactly what the series is about, stylish fighting, pretty animation, lots of blood and, as you will...

I just binge-watched the whole series in a few days. It has one of the most compelling story arcs of any anime I've seen. The early episodes are interesting but not exceptionally so, with an unstable protagonist, a schlub, and some idiot cosplay girl. But it's amusing, and various characters are...

For the most part my experience is that the anime that hurls the most nudity and blood at the audience tends not to be worth watching unless you simply want to see naked, bloody cartoon characters. It is often a way of saying, "the story and characters are bad, here's something to look at...

I started this because it got a fair number of recommendations on the Cowboy Bebop page. But the first two episodes had a very different vibe. Bebop was the ultimate cool, but this is about a rather dorky everyman who hooks up with a bunch of rather generic smugglers. I'm not saying it's terrible...

I thought the first episode of this had potential, but once it got into the meat of the series, which is a series of frenetic, whacked out one-offs, I just couldn't keep up my interest. It's not bad, but it just feels noisy and uninspired.

I was very impressed when I started watching Baccano, and even though I've bailed on the series, I'm still impressed with it. It's quite imaginative, the 1930s-era look is well done, it's well paced, and the story is intriguing. There are aspects of it I am less enamored with. The violence is...

For about the first half, I found this reasonably entertaining, mainly because it's so utterly ludicrous. It's sexy cat-girl theme is silly even by ecchi standards. But as the series continued, I began to lose interest. The characters are bland and the stories aren't compelling. I don't think...

This is 15, 1-minute long animated shorts by a variety of Japanese animators. For the most part they seem kind of pointless, some trifling idea the animator had. Some are like a one minute clip from a movie, some are just images. A handful are quite good. There's a low-budget invasion that's...

Cowboy Bebop

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Space Dandy

Humorous space bounty hunter, general whackiness, fast paced, over-the-top crazy action. Certainly they're different shows with different approaches - Space Dandy is far crazier, with a Kenny-in-South Park attitude towards death - but Space Dandy scratches my Bebop itch better than anything else I've seen. I won't say it's not possible to like one without liking the other, because anything's possible, but I there's a lot of overlap in appeal.
