Welcome to my profile stranger!

Me and anime had an almost accidental encounter back in 2007. At the time my life was undergoing a slight transition, certain habits had to change and I was in dire need of a distraction. One friend of mine suggested I watch "Robotech". I once caught a glimpse of it on TV and liked it so I went ahead and watched the whole series. I moved on to the original Macross series and then to Ghost in The Shell since Sci-Fi was and is one of my favorite genres. And after tha I just kept watching. I do not consider "Robotech" an anime, but it was what got me started.

I discovered Anime Planet sometime early 2008, at the time I was searching for sites with anime related content. I started building my anime list since then, using the recommendations to try new (completed) shows which I watched at steady paces until recently. These days I mostly watch ongoing series as soon as they are released, sometimes too soon! This habit of mine eventually lead to me getting involved with Anime Planet, something I was not really expecting, with the help of Twitter which brought me in contact with Sothis.

Which brings me to the community here. My social skills aren't very good, so it's difficult for me to make friends. As far anime goes, I prefer watching them rather than posting a comment in endless threads and although sometimes I do want to make a comment, I prefer Twitter for that job. Hence, made no friends in AP despite being here a while.

One other thing that happened because of anime, I started listening to anisongs (anime OP and EDs) a lot. The past couple of years 90% of what I listen to are comprised of anisongs. My iPod is full of them and so is my cell phone. I listen frequently to anime-nfo radio and I never miss a weekly anime song radio show on a UK streaming radio station with a real presenter! You can also find me on last.fm:

As far manga goes, I follow a few of them, mostly mainstream stuff. I keep my main list on manga-updates so my list here is probably not up to date, but I intent to sync them from time to time.

Other than that, I know a few seiyuus and a few major anime studios but I do not delve in the otaku land more than necessary. You will not find collections of figurines or stacks of limited edition DVD/BDs in my place.

What you will find, are DVDs of shows like Star Trek and Babylon 5, shows I loved at the time they were airing (expect the original Star Trek, I was not born yet!). I'm a big scifi fan and most shows I watch that are not anime are scifi US shows. My other interests are the IT world, personal computers and smartphones. I sleep in the same room with a running PC for 15 years now, then only thing changed is that the PCs are 2 now. When I'm in no mood for anime I usually end up messing with my Linux server, trying to improve it.

As you have already guessed, I have no life. I'm just another nerdy otaku with few friends, and if you made it this far reading this boring tl;dr profile you must be really bored yourself!

Agh! Only a 4.5 for Kara no Kyoukai: Garden of Sinners? ;)

It is the show that I've been waiting a few years to find. I love it.

Glad that you liked it! I started with Led Zeppelin way back when, and then from there I listened to a radio program on Boston's rock station WAAF. After that I got into In Flames. But yeah, I love thrash metal. I never really got into black or death metal. But I also love Melodic death metal. Recently I found some pretty heavy yet super melodic stuff from this band:

The absence. The entire Riders of the Plague album is awesome.

Hey it's great to hear back from you so fast, Charlie. I can definitely agree with you on those grounds. I haven't watched all of the macross series because I think that music aspect got kinda silly, but I really liked the original macross and I also liked Macross Zero, the movie, which was beautifully animated and had a good pacing. As another token of greetings, I offer you a song:

I found this song about a week back while searching for Yoko Kanno related things, and stumbled upon it. Since then, it's been something of a "song of the week". I've listened to it at least once a day. I'm not sure if you'll like it, since I don't know your tastes. I've never reallly liked RnB, hiphop, or Rap, but pesonally I grew up with a soft rock/classic rock/classic metal background, and in my teens started listening to heavy metal, both new and old. From there, once I entered college, I started getting much more heavily into techno, and even into a little pop, although I still listen to metal, because of the social dancing I took up. So yeah, I hope you enjoy, but no problem if it's not your cup of tea. :)
