Gilgamesh

Aug 29, 2013

I've finally found it. The holy grail of bad anime. A vacant wasteland where you wander , desperately seeking characters, only to find utterly vacant shells blankly staring at one another. A land so stagnant that motion itself is a rarity, with most moments being comprised of still shots. Every episode the same fight recurs between the same factions, with the same resolution. Nothing. To even call these scenes fights is a discredit to even the most poorly coreographed productions. They involve all the characters using the same abilities without any creativity or variation, making it difficult to tell... See full review

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Jun 20, 2010

Story: Gankutsuou is an odd bugger. It puts a spin on a classic novel that took place in the past and shifts it FAR in the future. First thing's first, the setting is neat. The beginning of the series paints a cool atmospheric setting where we meet diverse generally high class people, and it becomes clear going to a different planet is like a plane trip. I really enjoyed this very interesting new universe, and the series was atmospheric, but unfortunately rather than doing anything with it they kind of forget the established setting and do nothing with it, so it eventually loses it's edge. The pace is... See full review

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig

Mar 7, 2010

Story:Ghost in the shell 2nd gig's story is presented infinitely better than the first gig. I say that because, where the first was littered with absolutey horendous filler the eats up half the anime, 2nd gig has fewer filler, much more appropriately placed, most tying in and not breaking up the seasons flow, and just much better in terms of enjoyability. For example in season one where we would have a random out of place story interupting and poorly executed standalone episode about a random villain we could not care less about, here we are treated to funny and well executed shorts like if a member of... Ghost in the Shell

Mar 2, 2010

Story: The biggest issue with ghost in the shell is that theres not much there. What I mean by that is nothing really new is brought to the table, and it ultimately feels like a(much much better) standalone episode from the series. The story is noteably worse than what we are given in either series of the anime, and only about halfway are we intruiged slightly, though that dwindles out in the climax, or lack thereof. It is a good gateway anime, or gateway scifi anime, but if you are used to the genre you will find nothing new here, though the story will not be painful, and finished, at least for me, in... Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

Mar 2, 2010

First of all, if you are not a big GITS fan, turn back now, this is not a movie for you!   Story: Innocence is bad. I watched it back to back with the original GITS movie, which is longer, but felt like it was over in an hour. Innocence however dragged on endlessly. It's pacing is the absolute worst, and as the mediocre story pans out we are forced to endure a needless torrent of quotes that in such quantity, eventually become redundant. The only points this gets is for the scene of Batou's home, which was done well, but can hardly be considered story. Discussing the plot further would be an insult... See full review

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Mar 1, 2010

Story:Ghost in the shell follows section 9, led by the cyborg major Kusanagi as they investigate a very interesting case. The story plays out well, and at no point leaves you bored, although perhaps a little confused, though it is not trippy or intentionally ambiguous like some other anime. The story takes place in a believeable(although perhaps not in the given timeline) scifi world. We see the new technologies and how humans have 'evolved' in the time, and how criminals operate, including new ways crimes can even be comitted. It is worth it to note that the catcher in the rye is referenced quite... See full review

Gungrave

Feb 23, 2010

This is a spoiler free review written after two full viewings of the subbed series and one of the dub. STORY 8/10 Keep in mind a few things when regarding my 10/10 rating for this series. The first and most important is that the first episode is unforgiveable in the sense it is essentially a copy and paste from one of the most lackluster episodes later in the series, and furthermore the most difficult segment to understand. But worse than that it gives away details of twists that would otherwise serve as huge surprises, which also means as the series kicks off you immediately realize where things are... See full review
