Should you watch: Yes First off I expected nothing from this anime due to all the poor reviews and I was shocked that its wasn’t that bad at all. Cerberus, is based off a videogame and was produced to celebrate its 5 year anniversary. While it is true that nothing is really original and there are better things out there, this anime definitely deserves more than 2 stars. STORY: The main character Hiiro (yea I can’t believe they did that) is on a mission to destroy some legendary dragon to save the world. He is motivated by the fact that the dragon killed his mother and father 10 years ago... See full review
Should you watch: As long as you don’t mind the visuals. Tonkatsu DJ Agetaro is based off a gag manga from 2014. It’s an interesting concept and while most people (including me) say it is awful, a select few swear by it one calling it one of the best. I don’t really know what there is to like about this or even what to say. It is only 100 minutes so its pretty short, but wouldn’t make a good movie. STORY: Wow this is such a weird concept. They whole idea is that making tonkatsu ( a Japanese food which consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet) is somehow similar to being a DJ... See full review
Should you watch: Only if you find a place that combines all the episodes into 1. Ragnastrike Angels is a real time mobile app game that features girls who get injected with some cells and grow 30 stories tall. Weird concept I know, guy probably just really wanted to draw buildings. The whole anime is supposed to help sales of the game, but the fact that they split a promo video into 12 small parts is beyond insane in my opinion. The whole anime is only 6 minutes long, which is a decent promo length, it just get ruined by the constant breaks. STORY: There are five girls who make up the team who fight... See full review
Should you watch: No Usakame is a spin-off of Teekyu where the story follows the 4 main character’s rivals rather than the main characters. Its based off a comedy manga and due to the success of Teekyu (84 episode anime), Usakame was given the green light to be an anime as well. While I haven’t seen Teekyu personally, I have heard that it is extremely similar in not only its short run time, but the fact that each have 4 characters and are a tennis comedy that follow 4 girls. STORY: It’s a comedy that follow 4 girls who are in the same tennis group in school. This specifically follows the... See full review
Should you watch: No Pan de Peace! Is based off a 4 panel manga written by Emily, who usually writes adult comics. Which is very weird since there isn’t anything adult in this series at all. I can see how this would make a really funny 4 panel manga since the whole thing is based off bread, but it just doesn’t work out as a 3 minute episode. This is the first and most likely last time I am going to say this, but I think it would have been a lot better if each episode was only 1 minute acting out the comic. STORY: Just a slice of life following a group of girls in school. They all really love... See full review
Should you watch: No Onigiri is based off a MMORPG is and the anime was made in order to advertise the game. While every episode is really short, they still manage to have some kinda a story. For a video game advertisement this is probably the best anime I have seen, but overall it is not that good. Total run time is 40, so its not that long if you want to check out the whole thing. STORY: Set in a fantasy prehistoric japan, Kamikui (the demons) have been freed from imprisonment. A group of girls work together to reseal all the Kamikui. For something that seems like a giant joke and only 3 minutes each... See full review
Should you watch it? –NO NO NO WOW I do not know what I watched. While I didn’t really have any hopes for an anime short, I was still disappointed. This could be due to the fact I just watched Space Patrol Luluco, you should check that out by the way. Wagamama High Spec is an adult novel that was released shortly after the start of the anime short, most likely for advertisement purposes. This means that the anime is usually going to be complete sh*t. You’d figure though that an anime whose sole purpose is to make you buy an porn game would be really echii, but surprising it is lacking in... See full review
Should you watch it? –YES! When I first came across this I did not have any expectations. After watching it though it was one of the funniest things this season. Space Patrol Luluco is a anime short with a total run time of 80 minutes aka a movie. It is produced by studio Trigger, the one who brought us Kill la Kill, Kiznaiver, and Little Witch Academia. You will see a lot of anime references about 2-3 every episode focusing heavy on their other works and referencing others such as Kaiba, or even Panty and Stocking. STORY- the story follows Luluco who desires to be a normal girl with a normal life... See full review
Should you watch: no Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto Is based off a 4 volume manga from 2012. I honestly have no idea why a lot of people like this. It is supposed to be a school comedy, but the only times I laughed was at the anime because how pathetic it was. STORY: First of all this anime is episodic, so if you expect story progression give up now. The story revolves around Sakamoto, a student in class 1-2 who consistently runs into problems. Being a perfect student loved by girls and guys, he always finds some crazy way to fix them and the problems of others. The funny part of the anime is... See full review
Should you watch: yes if you don’t mind something old. Future Boy Conan really surprised me with how well everything was done. I was shocked that I liked something so old (almost 40 years). Comparing it to anything else in that decade or even the next wouldn't even be fair. (Granted I liked urusei yatsura a lot) Future Boy Conan is based of the book The Incredible Tide and has been translated to almost every language you can think of. It is directed to young adults with the overall theme similar of other anime in the time about how war... See full review
Should you watch: yes Sushi Police is one of the most unique animes of this season. It is very funny and cartoonish so if that is off putting then you work like it. STORY: Due to the 2020 Olympics everyone is making sushi overseas. Japan sets up the sushi police to make sure that the overseas sushi is authentic. It’s mostly an over the top comedy which the characters going around the world and in 3 minutes punishing the offenders with wasabi. ANIMATION: Different. I loved the intro as it very American cartoonish and the characters are very cartoonish too. It manages to pull it off successfully and... See full review
Should you watch: no way Tabimachi Lateshow is an original anime that is just very boring. It originally aired at 11:17pm at night and is only 32 minutes of run time. STORY: I am not really sure what was going on as I watched this. I kept falling in and out of sleep due to the calming music and boring story. It belongs to the drama genre and has an overall theme of goodbyes and journeys, but it seems that it is just slice of life. ANIMATION: Poor. I was very disappointed that in 2016 something of this caliber came out. I felt that I was watching something from the 80s or 90s. SOUND: Good as the music... See full review
Should you watch: maybe Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko is based off a 5 minute OVA that was successful. It turned into a 4 episode 8 minutes each short anime. While it isn’t bad, its only redeeming quality is its music. STORY: This anime follows Daru, a cat who is picked up by Miyu. The story is about Miyu’s life from the prospective of Daru. It is very dull and unsuccessfully tries to be emotional. I tried to feel for Miyu, but at the end of the day I just didn’t care. ANIMATION: Good, not great. Everything is a little dull and slightly too dark. The characters are drawn well though. Being... See full review
Should you watch: Yes Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan is based off a 2014 manga. I thought it was very funny and eerily accurate, according to my female friends. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to a girl though as there are a lot of sexual references, but they would still find it funny. STORY: This anime follows Galko, a huge boobed high school girl. About half the anime is about answering questions about common myths such as do big breasts have bigger nipples or do big boobs float. The other half is about the other main character Otako, if you can’t tell an Otaku, who is the polar opposite of... See full review
Should you watch: NO! Sekko Boys is an original anime with no source material that runs for 96 minutes. I am guessing this is supposed to be a comedy but it wasn’t funny. I didn’t think that the main characters would actually be the roman busts. STORY: This anime tries to be over the top and ridiculous by give 4 roman busts a personality. They form an idol group which is managed by Miki Ishimoto, a rookie art school graduate. Since they are busts, they are unable to move and require assistance. I am assuming this was also done for comedic purposes but it fails horribly. I am guessing someone... See full review
Should you watch: no Ooya-san wa Shishunki! Is based off a 4 panel manga from 2012, which explains why each episode after removing the ending is only 90 seconds. It’s supposed to be a comedy but it isn’t very funny. STORY: The story revolves around Maeda, who moves into a new apartment complex to find out that his landlord, Chie Satonaka, is a girl in middle school. An interesting topic, but surprisingly she doesn’t do anything landlordish or mature. I felt that there could have been a lot of comedic value in her trying to do adult things but failing, instead the story revolves around... See full review
Should you watch: yes Ojisan to Marshmallow was first a comedy manga that was published online. Because of its massive popularity they gave it a 12 episode series, each episode lasting about 4 minutes. STORY: This comedy romance that is located in the work place is done really well. While watching the first episode I laughed within the first minute. I don’t know of a single anime that has done that to me. Just when I calmed down another funny moment occurred and was set to say that this is going to be the best short anime I have ever watched. Sadly though the romance jokes do get a little old, but... Should you watch: yea Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara is a twist on the magical girl genre where magical girls are no longer necessary as there are no evil creatures to fight. If you can’t tell already this a just a light hearted comedy short. STORY: The story is set around Yuzuka Hanami who becomes a magical girl because she is able to see the weird creature thing (always one of those in a magical girl anime am I right) that is able to give out powers. There are no monsters to beat anymore so this is very relaxing to watch and even managed to make me laugh at moments. ANIMATION: It’s clean... See full review
Should you watch: No Kono Danshi, Mahou ga Oshigoto Desuis is a twist on a gay relationship where the main protagonist is a wizard. They do not go together, or at least this anime does it awfully. STORY: This 32 minute love story is very unique, not only does it include LGBT relationships but tries to throw in some garbage about the main character being a wizard. The wizard part is completely unnecessary and the anime would have gotten a 7 or an 8 instead of a 4 for story if he was just some normal guy with a normal job. The only time his wizard powers move the story is towards the end which could have... See full review
Should you watch: Yes Myriad Colors Phantom World is based off a 2 year old novel. If you’re looking for a pure action anime then this is not for you. The writer tries to do a lot of things at once and while none of the genres are done poorly, none of the individual categories are done really well. It was an interesting mix though. STORY: Every episode starts off telling you what exact psychological component you are going to learn about (very interesting way of starting off each episode). Haruhiko Ichijo is the main protagonist who teams up with a group of girls to fight “phantoms&rdquo... See full review
Should you watch: skip it Well interestingly I first started to watch this over a year ago, but once I hit episode 22, I was unable to find 23-26 subbed anywhere. To my surprise the subbing was finished about a month ago so I decided to rewatch this as I was pissed that such a good anime didn’t have its epic conclusion subbed. Then after watching it I understand why. The ending is complete sh-t, one of the most confusing and boring endings I have ever watched. STORY: Kiss Dum had so much potential and the majority of it was very interesting. Granted the post-apocalyptic world is not an original idea... See full review
Should you watch: If you are a girl looking for some detailed exercises. Surprisingly there is not really any fan service shots. For every shot that seems fanservice-y, it usually serves a purpose to show you how your legs should be planted etc. I was very surprised by the whole series and surprised by how lowly it is rated, because it does what it was written to do. STORY: In 3 and a half minutes, an idol goes through 2-3 different exercise with the occasional dancing episode. There are a total of 5 idols who are try to teach the viewer how to do basic exercise such as pushups correctly and sometimes... See full review
Should you watch: If you like detective stories Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation is a novel series written in 2013. It is a really good detective mystery series. If you’re looking for your detective fix like me, then this is a must watch. They set the series up for a season two, so if it sells well in Japan expect another season in at least a year. STORY: Usually episode deals with some sort of death that the main character comes across and attempts to solve. Unlike most detective shows, there are not any interviews, clues, or really anything else. The crime is almost instantly solved by... See full review
Should you watch: If you’re in it for the looks, else no. Concrete Revolutio is a new anime produced by Bones. It has a Manga being published concurrently. The biggest theme in this anime is the definition of good and evil showing that the world isn’t black and white, more of a gray. This was done much better in Akame ga Kill. STORY: The earth is filled with super humans and other supernatural people such as ghosts. The majority of people do not know of their existence. The superhuman bureau is tasked by the Japanese government to deal with superhuman instances. With episodes usually begin... See full review
Should you watch: NO!! Kowabon is supposed to be a short episodic horror series that fails miserably. While it did air at 2am, I watched it at 6pm. The whole series was not scary at ALL and I scare very easily by horror. This feels like some C- film student project that shouldn’t have gone on longer than just 1 episode. The only interesting quality is the use of rotoscoping. STORY: Every perspective is through a camera where some horror thing occurs in the last 30 seconds of the 2 and a half minute episode. It really boring and I am not sure how I got through it. ANIMATION: Interesting because of... See full review
Should you watch: Most likely not Onsen Yousei Hakone-chan is based off an two volume manga. While the total run length is only 30 minutes spread across 12 episodes, it wasn’t that bad. Usually these animes are very episodic, but to my surprise there was actually an overarching story. STORY: The main character is a girl is a spirit of a hot spring, one of the 7 famous hot springs in the area. Arguably the other man character, Toya, who cleans the well comes into contact with this spirit. With the hope of her being able to grant his wish, he helps her to regain her full power. A interesting story... See full review
Should you watch: No Komori-san Can't Decline is currently a popular 4 panel manga with 34 chapters. When I first watched it, it had potential, but it really fell through. The anime is only 20 minutes long and thank god for that. STORY: The main character is a girl who can never turn down a request. Not because she is unable to say no, just because she want to do it. An interesting concept but it isn’t really funny at all. With only 2 minutes per episode I wished the intro wouldn’t be 30 seconds or at least change it up every so often. With every episode really being 1 minute and a half, it is... See full review
Should you watch: NO Hacka Doll the Animation is an anime which primary purpose was to advertise an iPhone/ android app. Already, I predicted that this is going to be a sh-t show. Run time is an hour and a half. STORY: 3/4 girls go around trying to "advance" aka help people do various tasks and usually end up failing in a "humorous" way. Sadly though this anime completely fails to be funny at all. After 4 episodes I had to do something else (Pocket Mortys) in order for me not to kill myself. But with an anime whose purpose is to advertise an app I guess I should have known. ANIMATION... See full review
Should you watch it: if you have 30 mins it's not too bad. Watched this anime for the monthly marathon. Probably would have not watched it otherwise. Especially something ranked only 2 stars, but to my surprise, it wasn't bad. STORY: The story is very episodic and each episode is only a little longer than 2 minutes. While most shows usually are unable to give a decent story in such a short time, Fushigi na Somera-chan manages to do a decent job and give me a laugh. ANIMATION: Really good colors and outlines. SOUND: The intro and ending are really catchy, but that’s it. CHARACTERS: no character... See full review
Should you watch it: ehhh maybe? I came across this anime because recently I have been watching a lot of action anime and needed a break. This anime was PERFECT for that. If you need something to calm the mind that is free of action, romance, or really any overall story/thinking at all this is it. Himouto! Umaru-chan is an 8-10 page/ chapter manga with currently 136 chapters. All the stories are mostly independent of each other and while I haven't personally read it, I have heard that the anime follows the manga closely. STORY: Himouto! Umaru-chan follows the lives of a brother with a job who supports... See full review
