If you're looking for something to make you think Kino no Tabi is the way to go; great series.

Yeah, I was hoping for something more -- I think it made it worse that I watched Kino no Tabi - The Country of Disease right before finishing it, though, since that amplified expectations. As for your age, I think it was aimed more for 9-12 year olds, so 15 would be pressing the demographic a bit; it was just presented too simply to have much appeal to those who don't have a simplistic view of the world themselves.
