My name's Izzy, or otherwise know as Blankspades. I recently fell in love with mecha anime, and have *firmly* decided that all good anime needs (at least a bit of) the following:
-Romance. (Which is self explanatory.) At least enough to leave some things to the imagination. Yaoi is loved, josei... not so much, hetero is cool. Smut is OK, in small doses. Two fall-backs of romance: First- ecchi is sometimes a follow-up component, and to me, having a naked butt and huge... um... assesses are filling up the screen, it gets a little awkward. Second- the main characters sometimes do really, really really stupid things in the "name of love." I say: BULL! Keep your composure, you moron!
-Mystery. Not the "detective" sort though!! No~! Big no-no! All detective anime are a one way street to snooze-vill. No, I mean the "omg! the character knows what the heck is going on, so why the heck don't we??" kind of mystery. :) The best kind.
-Mecha. Haha. You know, I've realized. Almost all of the anime I watch (and enjoy) has something to do with future-like kick-butt mechas. ((Ex: Code Geass, Glass Fleet, STRAIN)) They just make it so much more interesting. It adds another plot to the story.
-ACTUAL main characters. I hate anime that has no real main characters, I find them extremely boring, and I'm always left with a sense of no real overall goal had been achieved. I rather prefer a bunch of set characters that are shown throughout the anime, so we can get a feel of going along for the ride.
-A real, overall goal. I know I mentioned it in the paragraph above, but I felt this one was important enough to go into it's own category. I can't STAND anime that is just bits-and-pieces of little games without any MAIN purpose. It's frankly a complete waste of time.
-An "AU" feel. Let's face it: Real life is boring. I want a new world I can sink into and learn about. ((For those unfamiliar with fan-fiction slang, AU means Alternate Universe.))
-The ability to fantasize. If you can't play around with the characters in your mind, be able to put them into your own situations and plots in your head, then the anime isn't worth your time.
-Humor. That's all that needs to be said.
-Thoughtfulness. It needs to have a strong, interesting plot that keeps to one theme. It also has to get the viewer thinking.
My Favorite Anime:
Black Lagoon (Season 1 and 2), Glass Fleet, D.Gray-Man, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, Code Geass, Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry, Jyu-Oh-Sei, 07-Ghost, Pandora Hearts, Saiyuki, KuroShitsuji, Kite-Liborator, Baccano!, Speed Grapher, Zombie-Loan, Hanasakeru Seishounen, Michiko to Hatchin, One Piece
