Hello!

I am currently a sophomore in college pursuing a B.M. in piano performance, as well as a B.A. in English. It's an interesting life; I have to keep reminding myself of this.

My first anime love is shoujo, having fed my fantasies for several naive years in high school. Lately, though, I have been drawn towards less commercialized titles dealing with troubled individuals who struggle to find their better selves. I am constantly on the lookout for my next Post-Awesome-Anime Depression (coined by VivisQueen), so please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Haha. No panic, I shall still be around, albeit not to the same crazy levels of activity as before. And, indeed, it's the 'few and far between' thing that gets me. Not only is there more moe/ecchi trash, but people are actively going for more moe/ecchi trash. It's like they've stopped wanting something that's gorgeously crafted and challenging. The death of Satoshi Kon really did a lot to damage my motivation for anime. Also, I miss having involving discussions about creative anime that tried to push boundaries and the fan culture - these days everyone's quietly consuming insipid high school comedies only to go and post banal comments about how random and crazy and awesome it is. I don't intend to give anime up altogether, but just trying to find a way to make it a lesser preoccupation since there's far less to actually get excited about.

My way of fixing the problem currently is to look elsewhere for intelligent discussion. I found a great podcast in Anime World Order and am reading ANN and OtakuUSA a lot more, and those are the places where I'm getting ideas for most of my anime. And since I'm enjoying the reviewing process a little less as well, I started experimenting with shorter reviews lacking the AP format. It's incredible how more relaxed my mind feels when approaching a blank slate. So that's a bit liberating. If I can, I'll supplement that with actual short fiction writing again - haven't properly created a story in years and I sort of miss it.

But yeah. Life. That's not going to properly catch up with me until next year. Next year I should HOPEFULLY PLEASE GOD start a Masters. Are you heading towards the end of your studies, by the way? And are you going to be a professional musician?

Oh, all right, all right! I shall refrain from mentioning it for the 6th or 7th time to you. But I hope one day when you do feel like something a bit witty and strange and artistic, you hop on board the Tutu love. Remember, anything pink is awesome!

And I do sort of understand with work eatign up time and stuff. Currently, despite my super-awesome long list of 'anime to review' my taste for it is waning. I may be on one of those intermittent burn out phases. Generally watching because I'm bored with fretting about my future. But once my future actually kicks in, not sure if I'll be that keen to watch as much as I used to. Generally, there seems to be a lack of quality shows to keep me enticed.

Summer Wars is one I'm waiting for, though.

I'll have to agree with Vivis here for a second. Tutu is a great show, but only if you're into the whole magical schoolgirl sort of thing (like I am). Also, the show may make you to hate Tschaikowsky, if you don't already... but it's a perfectly adorable show, with surprising twists <3

Thank you, babyeinstein12! And indeed, Only Yesterday should be fun to review. Never reviewed anything like it before. Wait, never SEEN anything like it before. Now just one question: why is Princess Tutu not on your watched, watching, or want to watch list? It's a perfect show for you considering your love for reflective, artistic, musical shows. Bah.
