Don't really feel like going through the show and taking screenshots to illustrate my point, but um yeah that show is definitely ecchi. LOL Harem crap shows aren't the only ones able to be tagged as such.
Bakemonogatari was indeed a great show. It's one of my very favorites despite it being ecchi (which is really saying something coming from me). The reason for the 'Cool Story Bro' has nothing to do with the quality of the show. Judging by my conversations with the site creator (sothis) she added it because there is just SO much dialogue in the show.
As for an underrated show, it depends on what you're in the mood for. That's why I suggested you check out the blog post I wrote on it, but if you insist on a direct recommendation I'll give you a few to choose from. Akagi would be good if you liked Death Note. Hare+Guu for a comedy. Himitsu: The Revelation is an extremely dark watch that almost no one has heard of. And for a sci-fi fix, go no further than Infinite Ryvius.
If you don't think there's that many bad anime out there then you either are very easy going entertainment-wise or you've just been very lucky. XD That's like saying there aren't many bad movies. Sure there's some bad ones that are SO bad it's actually funny so you get some entertainment out of it; then again there are just plain bad ones that have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Sure another subjective topic, but though people may not agree on the shows that suck- they can agree that they do exist. But you haven't seen much so you just haven't stumbled upon one yet.
As for underrated shows... I wrote a blog post about that if you're interested in checking any out. Let me know what you think if you happen to watch any of the ones I listed.
Haha that's the longest comment I've gotten in a while- thanks! Ok so I'll try to address all your points. Firstly, in response to your overrated suggestions... I've seen all of those with the exception of To Love-Ru and DBZ (which I have seen SOME of though). At the time of my writing that post however I hadn't seen most of the others and I didn't want to list shows I haven't personally seen. I had actually planned a follow up post to that to include more shows I thought fit the bill, but I never got around to it. Maybe this means I should eh?
A lot of shows I would definitely feel differently about if they weren’t hyped so much. I don’t think people watch these popular ones for no reason though. I know before I got “into” anime I knew about Naruto and Death Note, because it’s everywhere! And they would have probably been the first shows I turned to for an anime were I not directed by a more experienced watcher, if only because I didn’t know any other shows personally.
But because of the anime watchers I associate with now, I don’t hear so much about these typical overrated shows anymore. Hence they don’t come first to mind. We’re all more likely to discuss obscure titles no one has heard about. I mean these are people I group watched titles like Wild Cardz and Panzer Dragoon with. (Which I do *not* suggest you, or anyone else for that matter, to watch. Ugh.) So, I really don’t need recs to see what “bad” anime is. I have more than enough knowledge of that.
Though in the end, what it all comes down to is just opinion. There’s no way to write an objective post on this. ^.^
