Konnichiwa!

Jul 11, 2010

For starters, gomenasai for dropping off the face of the internet since roughly Christmas.  Between finishing my masters, the two on campus jobs I had going, and the current job hunt I now have ongoing and my (temporary) move back to Peoria, I've found myself excising most message boards from my life-Creamer Boards being the one exception.  (Relatedly, if you know of anybody who could use a good archivist, please let me know.)

As you can tell from the tracking, one of the things I have not terribly excised is anime itself, and have found myself enjoying many recent series.  You really need to look into bakatest.

OK...the pigman is claiming that the board is dead for good and Nan...well isn't disputing those claims.  So we may need to find a new hangout.

Tonights' anime reviews:

There was going to be one for Sora no Manimani, but the fansub disagrees with my laptop.  Much anger and I hope that another group picks it up.

Umineko episode 2:  It's good to see that Kinzo deals with his anger at the younger generation in the way that all rational adults do.  By siccing a homicidal witch on the lot of them.  Beatrice works fast...killed a 3rd of the people on the island in one night AND had time to ritualistically disfigure all of the corpses.  I enjoy the general "freaking out faces" that ensued, as well as Maria's face when Beatrice possessed her.  BTW, bad luck George....

PS...pay attention to the TV show Maria is watching.  Look familiar?

Of the OVAs I would recommend the first one-it deals with Kenshin's life during the Civil War, back when he did run around killing people.  (Minor spoiler-he did a lot of killing back then.)  It covers *refers to manga on shelf* the last part of volume 19, all of 20, and the first part of 21.  The second OVA is set years after the actual end of the manga, and only sort of deals with the rest of the Jinchu arc; mainly the final duel with Enishi as a flashback.  As the Jinchu arc covers the second half of volume 18 to the end of the manga (volume 28)....a lot never was animated.

I'll also point out that the animation style of the OVAs is completely different-more "realistic" if you will.

PS-Higurashi Rei fansubs are out.
