So this review is written by someone who doesn't mind overpowered characters, IF the story isn't ONLY about them being overpowered and the hero. This is a faithful to manga remake, and whether you've seen the orignal anime or read read the manga, or have no experience with the series at all, this is worth the watch.  Characters are well built and you'll quickly find a favorite, though some definitely have some quirks about them. The series is really deep and full of secrets which only get hinted at within the first season. We're back for the long haul and this anime is going until the manga is covered in it's entirety. I CAN'T WAIT!!

I loved the manga but I am throughally disapointed with the anime! It's not a bad story, really, I want to like this. But there's so many things I can't get past. The pacing is horrendously fast, most time I've counted without someone talking (excluding the first and last seconds of the episode) is 5 seconds. There's no time for reactions. No pauses for thought. It's just one person talking after another. There wasn't even a "huh...?" moment when Shin said he'd have to learn to go shopping. I'mma be honest. You will either love this or absolutely hate it. I loved it! My stomach hurt so bad by the time I finished just from how much I was laughing at it. Gakuen Handsome is making fun of every BL and Yaoi trope and cliche that's out there and it did the job beautifully and with a LOT of cringe! If I'd reviewed or scored this at the beginning of the series, I'd have given it a 9 or 10, but now that I've seen the ending I can barely given it a 6. I am THAT unhappy with the ending.  SPOILER ALERT!!

I've stalled on this series.  I'm sure I'll finish it eventually when I'm in that mood for a not-the-best romcom, but today is not that day. The story is great at first, MC is soely out for revenge. "I liked you as kids, you made fun of me, now I'm hot, so LOOK WHAT YOU CAN'T HAVE YOU B*&^%!!" And I loved that. Reading some of the other reviews, I saw comments like "this isn't original." and "the characters are pretty typical. In some ways these comments are true, but also they're not.  Yes the "commoner girl meets a Prince," has been beat to death, and yes often the prince starts to like the girl specifically because she treats him differently than he's treated in the palace. Hnnng... What to say. I enjoyed it but also had a lot of problems with this anime.  Pro: Good animation and character design. Also had very heartfelt stories. I enjoyed the main characters and their quirks, and was excited to know their full story. I also enjoyed the side stories for the other 3 hooked up couples.

So far I'm really liking this series. It's about a teen who's got pretty mediocre goals in life which includes not being a burden on his relatives who he's lived with since the death of his parents. To do this he even picked his highschool on the basis of having a dorm that he could live in. All well and dandy till the dorm builds down. To be honest, you're best off reading the manga on this one. This is 90s nostalgia for me. Huge part of my child hood was watching the Momoto battles back before I even knew that the dubbed anime was a terrible faulty translation. Dubs even quits before the anime's completion. This is one of my "never judge an anime by it's artwork" moments. Everytime I looked at the previews I just kept thinking how stupid the "teacher" character looked. Couldn't help comparing him to Lord Death from Soul Eater, and thinking how at least Lord Death made sense, while this yellow alien seemed like just a mascot type design.  Ended up seeing one episode on accident since my hub was watching it during dinner, and fell in love. I have very mixed feelings about this anime. It was at least worth watching but also nothingoverly profound happened that made it a need-to-watch anime.  Story: It starts off with heroine and her guardian knight running away from the generic fantasy army antagonists, and being rescued by the hero. Sort of... Actually the hero gets his butt handed to him and ends up getting killed to protect the heroine in the first episode. But this is anime so we can't have that. Being that I'm from the city, but my grandparents were farmers I saw a bit of both sides of the story growing up, and I really loved how it was portrayed in this story. It was both heartbreaking and inspiring to see the characters seeing the reality of having dreams for their future and what it takes to accomplish them. 

It's basically a Highschool Mary Poppins. Here's why: The story focuses on Sakamoto, who is cool and stylish at everything he does, almost to a rediculous degree. Side characters either like or dislike him from this fact and try to get close or to one-up him. However, they can never get the better of him and he somehow always turns it around to make them see good in the world that they hadn't seen before.  Now, cool for Sakamoto is every moment of anime "moe" put into a fairly normal school/ slice of life situation. This remake was amazing! *SPOILERS WARNING* Nothing huge but a bit. They went into numerous details that we could easily assumed happened, like Sherry working on the drug tests, but we didn't have proof of. They then opened with re-animated shots from past episodes, specifically the flashback episodes, like the recent ones where it shows Shinichi and Ran first meeting in preschool, or the one where Hattori Heiji and Shinichi are walking circles around each other solving a case at a ski resort in tandom, but never meeting. At first it seems weird and non-sensicle but don't give up on it! This is one of the most well thought out animes I've watched in quite some time. Before you're even halfway through you see that there's a bigger picture. By the halfway mark things are beginning to add up. Then through the last half you get repeated exclamations of, "HOLY CRAP THAT MOMENT WAS IMPORTANT?!" and it's really hard to quit watching.
