RahXephon

This series was an absolute load of horseshit. It's not even the interesting kind of horseshit because for the majority of the anime I'm thinking "hey, this is okay." Then the ending happens and I'm just left feeling disgusted at the blatant attempt to crib from Eva, but without the build up or any of the substance that made Eva good. The series never did explore any of Kamina's issues to any extent. ... See full review

Garo: Crimson Moon

Apr 1, 2016

This is just a weak retread of the superior first season. Every aspect of this season is worse than the first season. There's no reason to give this tripe the time of day. Just rewatch the first season instead.

She and Her Cat: Everything Flows

Mar 26, 2016

This anime was a feels trip that didn't feel trite or emotionally manipulative. The series is very simple in its presentation, but it effectively focuses on its subject matter for maximum emotional impact. This is a must watch for anyone that's ever owned and loved a pet.

Sekkou Boys

Mar 26, 2016

This show ended up being pretty fun. It took the silly as hell premise and ran with it. The first couple of episodes were weak, but once the main cast got established it got entertaining. The show had a robust cast of funny side characters that helped to carry some of the episodes. Of the Rockies I have to say that Girgio was my favorite, but that's got a lot to do with how much I love Sugita. He gives as great performance as Girgio and one of the funniest episodes is when Girgio gets depressed.

Please tell me! Galko-chan

Mar 26, 2016

This was a very nice short that offered a lot of comedy mixed with a touch of character development that made the characters much more endearing.

Sleeping with Hinako

Mar 26, 2016

After sleeping with Hinako I haven't had a single good night's rest due to the recurring nightmare of her absurdly jiggly breasts becoming sentient attacking me.

Sunday Without God

Jun 26, 2014

Kamisama starts with such an interesting premise and loads of potential. A destroyed world that god has abandoned where the living and the dead have to live together. The world is a desolate wasteland where the remnants of humanity both living and dead have created their own insular societies. It's a great premise, much like Kino's Journey it's a chance to explore different aspects of humanity in an extreme environment. Unlike Kino's Journey, Kamisama never makes use of its premise. Instead it keeps throwing up new ideas and new characters without bothering to develop any of them... See full review

Danganronpa: The Animation

Jun 26, 2014

Sigh, if you want the short version of how I feel about this series then imagine a really drawn out loud, wet fart noise.

The concept of this anime is pretty simple, it's like Clue played in a locked down high school that the students can't escape. The students are told they have murder one of their own without getting caught to be able to leave the school. And just like Clue, after each murder the students have to get together to figure out who the murderer is. Somehow though, the anime managed to fuck it up royally.

Danganronpa didn't have to suck. It could have been a great... See full review

Day Break Illusion: il sole penetra le illusioni

Jun 26, 2014

Day Break Illusion is the hardest kind of show to write about because it's not terrible and it's not good but instead falls dead center in average territory. It's pretty obvious the story here took heavy inspiration from Madoka. However, that's not a reason to dismiss the show out of hand. If you're going to take inspiration from another anime then you could make much worse choices than the excellent Madoka. However, Day Break Illusion does try to go in it's own direction creating it's own story elements and generally having it's own voice. The anime fails though because it doesn't manage to build up the... See full review

Tsuritama

Jun 26, 2014

Tsuritama is the story of four boys, one of whom claims to be an alien. However, it's really a story of growing up. The main character Yuki suffers from severe social anxiety and more than anything this is his story of getting over that fear. The amount of character development in these 12 episodes puts most anime to shame. Not just the main character but all of the secondary cast gets a chance to develop. The character growth is always consistent and makes sense. There's never a moment where things feel forced or inorganic.

The plot of the anime is about catching a legendary fish. The plot is... See full review

Wanna be the Strongest in the World

Dec 24, 2013

It's the holiday season a time for good cheer, joy, fatty food and all that crap. If you're anything like me then you enjoy everything about the holiday traditions except for those pesky loved ones that always want to spend time with you. Well, rejoice anime fans! Because Japan has delivered Sekai De Ichiban, an anime perfect for alienating those annoying loved ones and ensuring they won't want to be in the same room with you.

Sekai De Ichiban may have a grand name that would suggest an epic nature, but in reality its a yuri porno for those that don't actually want to deal with nudity, sex or... See full review

Diabolik Lovers

Dec 9, 2013

Diabolik Lovers is a beautiful romance anime that transcends the boundaries of anime and can be described as nothing short of a life changing experience. The anime follows an innocent young girl named Yui as she goes to give live in a mansion with six reclusive brothers with tragic pasts. As each brother takes a turn romancing Yui, they learn about love for the very first time while also revealing their traumatic pasts. Diabolik Lovers manages to deftly balance tragedy with heartwarming romance. Even the most stone hearted viewer will cry not just bitter tears of sadness for these tortured boys, but also... SoulTaker

Oct 26, 2013

SoulTaker is the story of a boring piece of cardboard in the shape of a teenage boy that gains superpowers which he uses to protect a group of plot devices and find his sister. The anime tries to sell itself as a dark hero story, but the truth is it's a shounen battle anime that uses every cliche the genre has to offer. SoulTaker tries to hide how stale its story is by using it's highly stylized art style and pointless symbolism to make itself look deeper and more interesting, but this doesn't make up for the fact that the story is full of holes or that the art style can make the anime hard to follow at... Yugo the Negotiator

Oct 12, 2013

Yugo the Negotiator has a pretty simple premise, hell it's right there in the title. Yugo takes on various dangerous jobs where he need to mediate conflicts using all of his negotiation skills. However, the way the two arcs unfold are anything but simple as Yugo has to navigate through the tangled web of motivations of the parties involved in the negotiation which makes each arc more complex and interesting to watch as they unfold.

The story of the anime is split up into two arcs which follow roughly the same structure. Yugo gets the job, Yugo does some preliminary research into the parties... See full review

Natsuyuki Rendezvous

Oct 5, 2013

Natsuyuki Rendezvous starts off simple. A guy falls in love with a widow who is still grieving for the husband she's lost. The only complication is that Hazuki can see the ghost of widow Rokka's husband and the husband isn't ready to move on or give up his former wife.

It's an interesting premise and the series has a charming mellow mood that pulled me into the anime at first. However, that plot is actually a trick and not what the anime is about at all, as at the end of the fifth episode the anime completely shifts gears and is no longer a romance between Hazuki and Rokka but instead about...
