updated their review of Banner of the Stars II
Score 10/10

All the reviews seem to start with comparing the fights. It's really an invalid comparison.  Cool fights is nothing compared to WHY they are doing cool fights.  Actually, upon visiting this review again, the fights are very 'cool' but not in the usual sense of greatly animated scenes...

I read a very well written recommendation and found your page. I hope I can one day put to words the essence of a certain show (the "feeling") as well as you do. A lot of recommendations seem to be based on comparing plots, or raw average user satisfaction. I wish we could do better to dig into the essence of a show to recommend others. Very interesting bio! I wish you luck staying out of trouble :3

Oh, one more thing.. You never told me if you had seen the Shinkai films. Those are not a series, so they are easy to watch.. and they are amazing.

ahh, I don't want to compare any anime to its manga :)  I just went through black cat 1-18 and I like it. It's really simplistic-shounen (teamwork + willpower = win) for sure but I like this type for what it is. I like em all!  Kara no kyoukai is an audio/visual feast indeed. My subs are in chinese, and the Japanese is often very advanced and I'm wondering what...? Definitely not made for the usual teen crowd. I saw Kara no Kyoukai 1 2 3 and GOD the sudden light/dark mood changes are creeping me out. I'm always bracing myself for it.. When is that creepy ass bg music going to start suddenly? One thing i will NEVER read / watch is Japanese "horror". Japanese horror is so damn creepy I will be thinking about it 20 years later if I read it. IMPORTANT:: Can you recommend any cerebral types? It tends to make an anime low key, but I like shows that use le brain on the screen. Especially sci fi like that! GRR I want more!! I feel like I've seen everything on the AP recommend lists for the mature sci fi genre I like.  Btw, Infinite Ryvius is another sci fi I liked. Planetes too. SPACE BABY!! Galactic heroes is on hold till I can devote a huuuge chunk of time to it.

I just watched claymore. I really liked the first half. It was one of those.. "oh sweet, i'm only at the half way point and so much has happened! this is great!"  but the second half kinda dragged on, and things stopped making sense for me. A lot of things just didn't click in my head. Lots of strong people just standing aside and watching fights that could end instantly. People's strengths all over the place. The plot always vague. An enemy that comes and goes conveniently to make way for fight scenes. The main thing I appreciate is that people die for once (well, some people). Last fight? sudden theresamobile out of the blue! uber-strong enemy suddenly defeated! But wait, we don't want to finish her off out of mercy, no wait, even uber stronger guy who has been watching this whole time for fun comes in, says he's had enough fun, and leaves everyone for a happy ending!  It kinda reminded me of berserk PG with the gore. What did you think about this?  I'm starting Kara no Kyoukai now. This seemed better to start at night. Somehow, I take things more seriously at night. Here we go!

Thanks for your A list. I love bebop, champloo, code geass, hellsing, GTO.. actually, enver watched GTO. I've read it several times over the years.  Never watched: Black Cat, Toradora, Higurashi no Koro Ni (saw the other one.. creepy ass little girl), claymore, Eden of the East, Glass Mask, Galactic Heroes.  SWEET! I will work on those. Thanks man.  I gotta say though, FMA Fumoffu was f'in hilarious. The way Sousuke talks is fantastic.  I have Eden of the East ready to watch, almost got Kara no Kyoukai till I found out its a mystery but audio/visual feast sounds great.  I never watched Galactic heroes because it was old. You have a great point though.. I bet I will love it.  SO, I'm gonna watch at least one of these this weekend. I always watch in one sitting. Kara no Kyoukai Higurashi no Koro Ni Claymore Eden of the East, <-- i have this, but my laptop at home can't decode 1080p fast enough.  Galactic Heroes  You go watch crest/banner + shinkai!

Ooooh recommendations!? I've never given any. You've unleashed a flood my friend. I see many many on your list that I would recommend. I'll skip those. Crest of the Stars, Ghost in the Shell series, Genshiken, All of Makoto Shinkai/Tenmon team's stuff and Ghibli oldschoolers (i hope you've seen all of THOSE! my favorites are mimi wo sumaseba, porco rosso, laputa, nausicaa..). All but genshiken has a great soundtrack. Music is very moving for me. I liked Geass too of course.  drama/love-story: I didn't see Makoto Shinkai in your list, have you seen Byousoku 5CM (5CM per second), voices of a distant star, the place promised in our early days? They are beautiful + emotional + ridonkulous music by Tenmon and in the absolutely unique category. They are the new miyazaki + joe combo. The girl who leapt through time is another good one. Story doesn't need to make sense for that ending scene.. In the action/comedy/light hearted department: Soul eater Anime didn't have a story to care about, but the characters / character interaction was funny and unique.  You don't have macross in there? :3 Macross zero is great. Freaking high budget amazing artwork/sound and of course it has the Macross world. macross frontier is entertaining.  Unusual types:  Gunparade March is another one that's hardly watched. I like the slow love story. I actually can believe it.   Ergo proxy is another one people don't tend to watch. There's a kid named pino that's really memorable for me.  Let me know if you decide to watch some :D As for manga, I've only ever started reading manga in English with Genshiken, which was nasty good. It's hit or miss on the translations.  Whats your top 5? I seem to rank mine by emotional impact and then entertainment. There's a lot out there that's a lot of fun to watch, but it doesn't have me thinking about it 1 year later cough hollywood

Hola! I forgot I wrote this review. I liked it so much I wanted to write about it.  Thanks for saying you'll watch it. Banner of the Stars is unlike any other anime I've seen. I like it so much I have not seen the OVA. It's like.. my hidden stash. I don't want it to end!!
