about me

My real name is Willow. At sixteen years of age, I am an avid watcher of classic Shounen anime. My preferred genres include fantasy and adventure, but as long as a sufficiant plot and well developed characters are present, I can enjoy basically any sect. I attend nearby conventions regularly. My two favourite anime are Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto and Yoshiro Togashi's Hunter X Hunter. I suppose you could say that I'm drawn to mainstream anime, but that fact is simply because I have a lot of free time, and mainstream series generally have higher episode counts. I tend to grow solomn at the conclusion of an excellant anime, like many others also do. As a completely ramdon sidenote, I am currently learning how to speak Japanese, and am an aspiring novelist.

My Rating System For Reviews

10 = Absolute and utter masterpiece (It will never happen)

9 = Masterpiece with minor flaws

7 - 8 = Above average/highly recommendable series

5 - 6 = Average

2 - 4 = Poor

1 = Absolutely horrid

I may use these terms in my reviews...

Plot story = A story that focuses on the plot or the setting more than the characters. Basically, in a plot story, the characters are simply tools with which to tell the story. More than often, plot stories feel rushed and stressed, but every now and then comes a plot-story that doesn’t include these elements. Two examples of plot stories are J.R.R Tolkien’s, The Lord of the Rings and Tite Kubo’s Bleach

Character story = A story that focuses on the characters more than the plot. Basically, in a character story, the plot is interwoven with the character’s developments (usually the main protagonist’s or main antagonist’s). Two examples of character stories include Natsuki Takaya’s Fruits Basket and Yoshiro Togashi’s Hunter X Hunter.

Now, not all series’ fit into these two categories. There are some that manage to fill both, and deliver fairly equal amounts of plot and character development. This variety of story contributes to my favorite genre, and includes series’ like One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, Harry Potter, and Naruto.

I'm always happy when I meet other people who see Naruto the way I do. xD It's so nice when you can talk to them and they understand what you're talking about and whatnot, however it's usually hard to find people like that. So sad.

I just finished rewatching Rurouni Kenshin and the first OVA a few months ago, now I'm getting around to watching the other OVA. Still need to rewatch the movie, I remember bits of it but not clearly enough. I know that everyone has been angry with the ending and all the randomly boring fillers in the anime, so maybe the new TV series will fix all that... I hope.

You think that's creepy? That's NOTHING:

Anyway, on meeting people who also like anime, sure, it's nice, and I DO have a couple of friends in real life who like it as much as I do, but the MOST ANNOYING THING about 99% of anime fans is that they take it TOO FAR.

I.E.: One of my friends. Since he's taken interest in anime, he's watched obscene amounts of ecchi, and his facebook page has transformed into an anime fan page. Now he adds random people from the internet(all with similar anime facebooks), and he constantly gets tagged in the creepiest, perverted pictures, for no real reason. His skin has gotten WAY paler, and he now claims to be bisexual.

It's as though the vast majority of people have NO self-control or self-respect.

Naruto filler is hit and miss with me, haha. A lot of it is kind of really stupid and a bit annoying, but some of it is actually a bit entertaining and sweet. Oh, the Rurouni Kenshin filler... how I wish I could completely forget about that. Oh, oh! I'm not sure if you know this but since you mentioned Kenshin, it completely reminded me of the new TV series it's getting. It hasn't been announce yet what it's going to exactly be about, but all I know is that it's something completely new and I'm really anxious for it. I think it's still under development though, so it may be a while before they release any solid and trustworthy information on it. Well, you never know, some people who don't like Naruto may just not be able to get into it or maybe they just overlook important parts or really symbolic elements. Everyone is different and sees things in a different light, I suppose.

It's not because I find them particularly creepy, it's because I'm simply not interested in anime in that way. I don't have any interest in any memorabilia, I don't care to meet the writers, I don't care to participate in any anime-related THINGS really, I just enjoy it as another medium fo entertainment. I stay home and watch it sometimes, and other times I do something else.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I really do like anime, I just don't care for it in that way, y'know?

And man, sounds pretty damn annoying. When our plane landed in san francisco a few weeks ago(it was 11 PM), we took a cab in the wrong direction for 20$ to the wrong hotel, at which point we then took ANOTHER cab for 30$ to the right CHAIN of hotel, but not the correct location, so they wouldn't accept us. So, since my mom was out of cash, and the cabs didn't take any form of card, we had to walk 3 and a half miles to the right hotel. It was 97 degrees ouside, and my mom didn't want to carry her own luggage, so I was stuck with five bags. As you can probably guess, it was a shitty walk. THEN, to top it all off, when we got to the hotel, the shower didn't have warm water ;~;

True. I don't really understand why most people hate on the Naruto series as though it's some kind of disgusting germ. They always have to find something to complain about or poke fun at, such as Naruto's quest to bring Sasuke back or how some of the characters act, especially Sasuke. Some people never stop and think about putting themselves in the characters shoes and seeing things from their point of view. I really adore Sasuke, even though he killed my favorite character ever (Itachi). Sasuke is a great example of a person who has been an unfortunate victim of how hateful and cruel the world can be and what it does to some people. There are other characters who also played a role somewhat like that but there was never as great depth and detail to their story as Sasuke's. All of the other characters have such great and interesting tales regarding them too. I especially like Hinata and how she looks up to Naruto as he gives her the strength to not give up and to keep pushing forward.

There are also the people who complain about fillers, which is just plain annoying. The majority of shounen anime with an ongoing manga need fillers so that the anime doesn't get too close and they run out of content. I'd much rather them start fillers episodes instead of having the series take a break until the manga is far enough ahead. :/
