Let's talk about this Big 3 of the 2012-2013 transition period for a minute. These are all fanstastic shows. I mean, its amazing that they all aired at the same time over 2 full cours no less. Probably the only thing more impressive than this was the legendary Spring 2011 season.
Moving on, after much deliberation and debate, Zetsuen no Tempest winds up at #1. What it really comes down to for me is the consistency. Psycho-pass does fade a bit in the 2nd half and Sakurasou while having great raw emotional character never quite stuck the nail in opting for a more lighthearted ending message. While ZnT does come out of the gate a bit choppy, it just creates and maintains at such a high level from there that its impossible to ignore.
Now I know I said that Psycho-pass fades a bit in the 2nd half, but take that more as a credit to the excellence of the 1st half than anything. This is still an all-time great detective mystery series, and a brilliant start to what's become an epic franchise. And really while overall the concept of the last arc I wasn't thrilled w/, the full-circle ending is still definitely pretty cool.
Really the only bad thing I can say about Sakurasou is that it didn't have that 'wow' gripping ending that I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, they executed the light-hearted concept they went for well, I guess I just wanted more drama haha. But other than that, similarly to ZnT this show is remarkably consistent. Really really well done.
Damn another 2012 carryover, quite an oddity this 2012-2013 transition. Like I said in the Fall commentary, this show is just wildly inconsistent. It weird cause part of me says its definitely worth watching but at the same time your bound to hav some level of disappointment since the expectations going into this show are always gonna be high.
