I haven't watched anime in quite some time, things happened and stuff. So I've listed some animes here that have that little extra. It might be helpful to you or if you just want to enjoy yourselves go ahead :)   (don't judge me on my ratings, some were a long time ago)

In this list the (main) characters really show development. It gives the story depth and makes it more realistic. You come to understand why they make certain decisions even though they'll have to suffer from it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about white knights or something, it just feels like it could have been me or you.

Kami nomi zo shiru sekai/The World God Only Knows

3th season, reading part of the manga will help you appreciate this one more

Angel Beats

Might seem like a cliche at first, but don't let that fool you :)

Sakamichi no apollon

This one is a bit slow-paced and not action-packed, but if you can get over that you'll definitely like this one)

Kokoro connect

Starts off hilariously. Make sure you watch the OVAs

It has been awhile since I've watched this one. Hopefully I can forget it, so I can watch it like it was like the first time.

Nagi no Asukara

One of the few newer animes which have that special thing

Code Geass

One of the best

Other animes not necesarily showing char development but has something else good about it:

Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Jojo's bizare adventure

Mahou shoujo Madoka Magika (This will surprise you)

Daily lives of highschool boys (sitcom like, if you're bored you cna watch these anytime)

Baka to test to shoukanjuu ( XD )

More serious themed anime:

Stein's Gate

Death Note

Kuroko no basket

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Don't watch the chronological order, but in the order the director arranged it)

And WATCH the movie...  :)

i know i hate having to wait. especially when something interesting happens and then it ends. in a way though it helps me to not watch something all in one sitting. there are times when i want to do that, but then i have school and anime just distractes me from it. if i have to wait for the next episode to come out then i can be like oh can't watch today it comes out on monday. :p

oh ya my names jashan, like my real name, nice to meet you :D what's yours??

yea dubbed sounds just so fake. even know because i do listen to subbed anime i can tell that dragonball z is dubbed. before i didn't know and i guess i'm just used to it now so yea i actually like it dubbed.

for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya i dunno i didn't like it. does it get better after because I only watched like 5 episodes and it just kinda weird so i dropped it.

oh and since you liked death note i'd recommend you watch bakuman. It has the thinking like death note has, but not in a violent way. it's about two guys who wanna be manga artists and make an anime. it's also created by the same people who created death note. Interesting if you like that kind of thing, otherwise you might just find it boring. give it a look.
