Shiki

Oct 13, 2010

Under the bed. At the window. In the courtyard at night. On the steps of the Monastery. In your town, in your neighborhood, on your street... They are shiki, they are coming, they are hungry, and they are multiplying. Containing some of the most skin-crawling imagery of any anime I've seen in the last two years, Shiki is a story about things that go bump - and chomp - in the night. Its innocent, but not innocuous, beginning sets the viewer off on a path of love, death, fear, and the fight against what seems to be insurmountable odds. We follow truly engaging characters through this path, rooting for some... See full review

School Days

Jul 6, 2010

Story:  9.0 I finished this series a few days ago, and although I wasn't particularly moved or even terribly enthralled by the story... Mayoi Neko Overrun!

May 19, 2010

Mayoi Neko Overrun! could have been a great anime. Mayoi Neko Overrun! could have been the breakout series for Spring 2010. If only they had picked a direction. This anime doesn't know what it wants to be. Unlike the manga, it's not pure ecchi/harem. Unlike the light novels upon which both the anime and manga are based, it's not even a good romance. Each episode of this anime feels like it belongs in a different series. The series starts off as a school life comedy, introducing many interesting characters. The first three episodes set the scene for a story that never receives any flesh: Takumi and Fumino are... Hanamaru Kindergarten

Apr 13, 2010

Carefree, funny, and heartfelt, Hanamaru Youchien is more than a slice-of-life comedy about kindergarteners and their lovable antics. It's also about keeping the child in your heart alive. It's about understanding that kids, even the youngest of them, all have little hearts and lots of love in them. The interactions between the teachers, the teachers and students, and the teachers and parents are all very funny, but completely within the realm of believability. The series touches on growing up, falling in love, and persevering through tough times while never getting too serious.I also... See full review
