about me

I've never quite been able to give up anime because it's a great way to keep the child in me alive. The child in me happens to be Sakura Kinomoto; the adult in me is turning day by day into Eva Heinemann. So you see the need.

My anime time includes writing reviews for Anime-Planet and Anime UK News, as well as co-presenting the UK's newest anime podcast, Nakama Britannica (latest episode is a discussion of the Pluto manga by Naoki Urasawa). As for my tastes, I can forgive most flaws if a show offers well-crafted characters, and I sometimes watch shows just because nobody else has. Lastly, you would make me eternally happy by joining in my forum club Find Your Anime Buddy. Go on… or we will find you.

*My rating scale: 1-3 (Poor); 4-6 (Average); 7-8 (Good); 9-10 (Masterpiece)

Great Reviews!

May 13, 2012

Hey VivisQueen,

I would just like to say that I absolutely love your reviews. After watching an anime, or a movie, I usually check the official reviews to see what others think, and it's always an interesting read. Your reviews are no exception.

One happy coincidence is that we seem to share the same taste. Whenever I enjoyed a show, I was happy to see that your review is a part of my brain expressed in words. But there is one big difference between you and I, and that is the fact that you're really good at being objective. (Not sure if "objective" can even be used on its own like that, but you get the point).

I blame my age and inexperience, but I tend to overlook flaws way too easily. On a limited 1-to-5-star scale, I tend to hover my cursor over the latter half. Somehow a 3.5 star rating feels low, while in reality, that's a 7! That's above avarage! What was I thinking! I try to rank the shows/movies I've watched in a way that it resembles my overall impression, and I try to look at it both objectively and subjectively and I constantly revise my rankings. (My current issue is with Death Note. I really don't know what to think of it, since I loved it (though I was spoiled by the Live Action movies before I got into anime...) yet it does have legitimate flaws.

But before this turns into a biography about someone you'll most likely never meet, I'd like to end this comment here by saying I absolutely love your reviews. So keep up the good work, and I'll be reading your well-constructed words in the future.

Konnichiwa!

Yeah, I think Viz have a tendency to just forget stuff. I've heard fans moaning (usually every time they pick up something new) that things licensed two years previously haven't been released yet. I'm surprised they're still going as a company considering they treat their fans like that - though I'm guessing they make more from their manga licenses than their anime ones. Don't think I've ever watched/read anything they're done though, so can't comment on their quality.

Ha, I'll pop onto the relevant topic and start waxing lyrical again, yeah - though if you wanna have a crack at season 2's review, I'm more than happy to defer. I'm not sure if it's good for my health to fanboy all over it a second time! But yeah, enjoying it greatly again (one of the only series I've been able to keep up with weekly, despite liking quite a lot of this season's shows).

Got a long wait for Berserk. Apparently, Viz won't be releasing it till the autumn - and who knows if it'll make it to the European side of the pond. Though, it comes out on Bluray in Japan in May so maybe a quick sneak preview might be in order >.> Teehee.

I suppose I should watch the series of Berserk first though... Still on my to watch list.
